Mumbai Indians and Skechers unveiled the 2024 season’s jersey designed by the renowned designer Monisha Jaising. Mumbai Indians will play their first home game on April 01, 2024.

Drawing inspiration from the vibrant hues of Mumbai Indians’ iconic blue and gold, Jaising has designed the jersey that will stand as a symbol of steadfast dedication and allegiance. Inspired by initialism, the design is derived by using the initial M placed in a grid format on an art Deco pattern with a play of thin and thick lines in shades of royal blue reflecting a geometry that’s precise and clean.

While royal blue signifies confidence and strength, Jaising has used imperial blue to exude empathy and dependability – all emotions that stand true for the Mumbai Indians and its fans. Marrying this with a dash of gold, to harness energy and power from the sun, through a racing graphic along the sides of the jersey that is meant to emphasise the powerful torso of the champion player.

Speaking on the unveiling, Mumbai Indians Spokesperson, said, “As our players don the iconic blue and gold jersey colours, they carry with them the hopes and dreams of our MI Paltan, fuelled by the spirit of ‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’. The jersey is a badge of honour, a symbol of pride for all who wear it, as they get to express their love for the team while carrying with them a piece of its illustrious legacy.”

After a successful launch of the Mumbai leg, MI Junior’s Pune leg also started smoothly today in the presence of Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) officials. Over 400 players from 28 teams belonging to 18 different schools will be participating in this edition.

This annual event serves as a great platform for budding cricketers in Maharashtra, offering them valuable game time and exposure. Organised in collaboration with cricket associations, including the Mumbai Cricket Association, Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA), and MCA, MI Junior aims to contribute to grassroots development and provide opportunities for learning in both education and sports under the Education and Sports for All (ESA) initiative.

The inaugural day of Mumbai Indians Junior Season 4 in Pune saw Vibgyor High, Balewadi get off to a flyer in the Boys’ Under-14 category, while Blue Ridge Public School dominated in the Boys’ Under-16 category.

A brisk ton by Shaurya Gaikwad (120 off 83) led Vibgyor High to a massive 449-run victory over Podar International School, Sara City Chakan.

Vivan Shirke (81* off 46) and Viren Shirke (78* off 40) provided ample support to Shaurya, guiding Vibgyor High to a mammoth total of 504 in the first innings. Podar International were then skittled out for just 55 runs thanks to a five-wicket haul by Vihaan Parab (5-10).

In another Boys’ Under-14 game, Aryan Daga starred with bat and ball to steer The Orchid School to a comfortable 134-run victory against Jai Hind High School. Batting first, Orchid School put up a commendable total of 231/7 on the board, thanks to a well-made 99 by Aryan. In response, Jai Hind were bowled out for 97 runs, with Aryan (5 for 23) doing most of the damage.

In the Boys’ Under-16 category, Aarav Agrawal’s all-round heroics drove Blue Ridge Public School to a dominant 8-wicket win over Anglo Urdu Boys High School.

Put in to bat first, Anglo Urdu were bowled out for 99 runs, with Aarav taking 6 wickets for just 18 runs.Riding high on his six-for, Aarav (54* off 61) shone with the bat to take Blue Ridge Public School across the finish line. Elsewhere, in the Girls’ Under 15 category, The Orchid School were bowled out for a meagre total of 49, which was easily chased down by Sinhgad City School in 2.1 overs.

Suryakumar Yadav posts a cryptic post after Mumbai Indians annouce their new captain

After Hardik Pandya was named Mumbai Indian’s new captain a cryptic post from Suryakumar Yadav surfaced on social media. Yadav tweeted an emoji of broken heart from Mumbai Indians after the management removed Rohit Sharma from the captaincy.

Yadav was also the vice-captain of MI in the last IPL and had also led the team in a few matches where Rohit played as an Impact player.

The team made the official announcement of this leadership transition on their official media handles on Friday. Pandya moved back to MI from the Gujarat Titans (GT) in an all-cash trade deal last month.

He had shifted to the Titans ahead of the IPL 2022, winning the inaugural season and finishing as the runners-up in the 2023 campaign. Pandya, however, had started his IPL career with MI, who had bagged him at a bargain price of ₹10 lakh in 2015.

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green wrote to his new Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) family after a major trade-off that happened between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans. Mumbai Indians brought back Hardik Pandya in an all-cash deal and traded off all-rounder Cameron Green to RCB ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 player auction.

Green was locked by MI for a whopping Rs 17.5 crore at the auction last December and featured in 16 matches. After the final confirmation about the 17-hour-long trade meeting that took place between the higher officials of both franchises, Green posted a video for his new IPL family.

“Hey RCB fans, it is Cam Green here, I am excited to join Andy Flower (the team’s head coach). I can’t wait to see you guys at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, cheers,” said Green in a video by RCB.

MI freed up their purse for the December 19 player auction in Dubai by sending Australian all-rounder Cameron Green to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in another all-cash deal. MI paid GT ₹ 15 crore, which was Pandya’s salary, in addition to a transfer fee that they will have to disclose to the IPL. Pandya stands to gain 50% from the additional aforementioned fee, as part of an agreement with GT.

Hardik Pandya returns back to Mumbai Indians after an all-cash deal trade-off with Gujarat Titans which was completed following 72 hours of intense drama. Originally played for Mumbai Indians, Pandya proved to hold a successful leadership profile after winning the cup for Gujarat in his first year as a captain and reaching a thriller final in the last IPL season.

On Sunday at 5 pm, Gujarat Titans announced that they have retained all-rounder Hardik Pandya as their captain for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, amid speculations that he could join Mumbai Indians ahead of the December 19 auction.

However, it was learned that the formal paperwork wasn’t yet completed and hence IPL and BCCI didn’t give the green light of approval for the most anticipated move of this transfer season. “Yes, Hardik’s trade-off was completed after 5 pm. The deal is now formalised and he is an MI player. It’s been a tripartite all-cash deal. MI have traded their all-rounder Cameron Green to RCB in an all-cash deal. After that they had requisite funds to settle an all-cash deal with Gujarat Titans and procure Hardik’s services,” a senior BCCI official and IPL Governing Council member said.

Pandya had joined Gujarat Titans as their captain in 2022. Speculations were rife that Pandya could rejoin Mumbai Indians, ending his two-year association with the Titans ahead of the IPL 2024. It was expected to be an all-cash trade with Mumbai but in the end, Pandya and the Titans found a way out to continue their journey together, at least for now.

While the Mumbai side named Rohit Sharma as their captain for IPL 2024, England pacer Jofra Archer has been released. Archer is still recuperating from an elbow surgery.

Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin believes that Mumbai Indians (MI) have struck gold if they manage to rope in Hardik Pandya in the trade window ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

As per reports, the Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper is set to return to the team that gave him his first break in the competition back in 2015. MI are set to pay Rs 15 crore in addition to an undisclosed transfer fee to secure his services, as per a report by ESPN Cricinfo.

Ashwin, who represents Rajasthan Royals, believes that MI will only go strength to strength if they bring back their former star.

“If it’s true, Mumbai Indians have struck gold. So if it’s true, it’s a complete cash deal from whatever I read. There’s no player that Mumbai is giving, Mumbai Indians have never given players on trade. I don’t think it has ever happened. But how does that XI look if Hardik goes back, who’s an MI grown player,” Ashwin said in a video posted on his socials.

Ashwin is one of the only two IPL captains traded by their teams in league history so far. Ajinkya Rahane was let go of to the Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2020 when Punjab Kings (PBKS) released Ashwin for the same franchise that very year.

However, the spinner says there’s a huge caveat in this trade deal, as Pandya is an IPL-winning skipper, unlike the duo as mentioned earlier.

“The only difference between us and Hardik is that he’s an IPL-winning captain which completely changes the balance for even Gujarat Titans,” the 36-year-old quipped.

MI Cape Town announced the player retentions ahead of the upcoming auctions of SA20.

The South African core is retained with Rassie van der Dussen, Ryan Rickelton – who picked up multiple honours at 2023 CSA awards as ‘Division 1 One-Day Cup Player of the Season’ and ‘Domestic Players’ Player of the Season’, Grant Roelofsen, Delano Potgieter, George Linde, Duan Jansen and Beuran Hendricks.

Last season’s wildcard pick Jofra Archer and speedster Olly Stone continue with MI Cape Town for the second season.

MI New York bounced back in style from the loss in the opening match as they recorded the biggest win in the opening week of the tournament on Sunday against Los Angeles Knight Riders in the inaugural season of Major League Cricket (MLC) in Texas.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, MI New York put up a total of 155/8 on the board. David was the star batter again, top scoring with 48* off just 21 balls, with four crisply hit sixes.

In reply, Los Angeles Knight Riders were bundled out for just 50, the lowest total in the brief history of the tournament. All five of MI New York’s bowlers picked up a brace each, with USA star Nosthush Kenjige being the pick of the bowlers with two for seven off his three overs.

Kenjige described the experience of playing with the best players in the world in his home country as an ‘unreal experience’. Kenjige made his MI New York debut on Sunday and said the experience was doubly special because he got to play in front of his family as well as friends.

“When you have a captain who has played so many games and won trophies around the world, you just need to be ready. I just trusted whatever calls he made and focused on executing my plans,” Kenjige said while talking about the influence of captain Pollard.

MI New York will face Texas Super Kings and Washington Freedom in the upcoming week. They are currently second on the points table with two points after two matches.

Opener match vs San Francisco Unicorns

MI New York got their Major League Cricket campaign underway on Friday at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas vs San Francisco Unicorns. MI New York made a fine start and reduced the Unicorns to 50 for four before a big partnership saw them recover and score a total of 215 for 5.

In reply, MI New York put up a spirited display with Australian star Tim David scoring the team’s first ever 50. David top scored with 53 and received good support from captain Kieron Pollard, who contributed 48. MI New York ultimately fell short by 22 runs as they scored 193 for 5 in their 20 overs.

Speaking after the match, David said captain Pollard’s dismissal was the turning point. “We thought we could get that total right until Polly got out. It was tough for new batters to get going on that wicket. It’s a tough ask to score that many runs but Polly and I believed that if it’s two guys that can do it, it’s me and him. We just didn’t get over the line.”

Bringing the same brand of expressive cricket to a new continent, the MINY cohort began extensive training sessions at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas. Captain Kieron Pollard and his team exuded confidence as they simulated various match scenarios and also got to know their roles and responsibilities better. As the local USA and overseas players exchanged notes in their first meeting, the players looked comfortable learning and teaching each other the tricks of the game.

MI New York Jersey Launch

The inaugural MI New York jersey to be donned by our squad for the season was unveiled this week, before they played their inaugural Major League Cricket game against San Francisco Unicorns on July 15.

The designer of the jersey, Monisha Jaising commented, “The MI NY jersey has a peacock feather motif print in shades of blue, complimented with strong gold graphics representing the Art Deco architecture of NYC & incorporating the letters M & I in the graphics. The peacock, India’s national bird, is a symbol of good fortune and royalty, and New York City is the Art Deco capital of the world.”

Mumbai Indians have hit a home run with their social media activities during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 campaign. The five-time IPL champions continued to headline the charts across multiple social media platforms as they finished third in a hard-fought season.

MI have a dynamic presence in various social networking sites that engages with fans and followers of the game throughout the calendar year. This has led to the franchise’s official YouTube channel topping the rankings amongst all teams with a cumulative 16.22 million post interactions. They accordingly are ranked second and third on Facebook and Instagram respectively.

The team’s flagship MI Live show, which brings together influencers and fans alike to discuss matches and everything under the sun about the franchise, garnered 71.86 million cumulative views during the IPL 2022-23 season. Out of this, 18.86 million views came through the MI Live show whereas the rest of the viewership was accumulated through the ancillary content put out across the team’s 16 match days.

The short-form content seems to have worked wonders for the MI YouTube channel lately. About 94.8 percent of the views secured by them through their official channel of the video-sharing platform came through YouTube Shorts. Across multiple platforms, the content made by creators related to MI notched the 162 million views mark. In total, the total views accrued across Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter surpassed two billion views cumulatively from March 30, 2023-May 31, 2023.

MI sparked a remarkable turnaround to qualify for the playoffs courtesy of their brilliant batting prowess. They defeated the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the first Eliminator before bowing out to the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Qualifier 2.
