Lachen or Lachung? Travelling for the first time to Gangtok?

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

The North Sikkim trip would not be complete without seeing Lachen and Lachung. Tourists who wish to visit Gurudongmar Lake, Yumthang Valley, Chopta Valley, or Zero Point may do so from either Lachen or Lacnhung, two cities that serve as convenient hubs for these destinations.

When we think about beautiful areas, North Sikkim is the one landscape that comes to mind. The wildflowers and verdant hills are a sight to see for many, while others find the craggier landscapes more appealing.

All of these, and more, may be found in North Sikkim. A journey to North Sikkim, which is spread out over a wide range of elevations, will allow you to enjoy a wide variety of gifts that Mother Nature has for us.

The Definitive Guide to Lachen

In addition to its sister community of Lachung, Chopta Valley Village serves as a starting point for excursions to Gurudongmar Lake. Placed at a lofty altitude of 8,838 feet. It would take you around 6-7 hours to travel up to this location from Gangtok via the North Sikkim Highway.

From Gangtok, the roads are like a roller coaster. Taking a car is the most common form of transportation. Driving here from Gangtok passes through three notable stops along the route. These locations consist of Mangan, Phodong, and Chunthang. The road divides in two from Chungthang. Leave Chungthang through the road that forks off to the left; it’s approximately 26 km from the city.

Several noteworthy locations may be found along the route from Gangtok toward Lachen through Chungthang. This means that you will probably arrive in Lachen late on the first day. Phensang Gompa, a minor gompa affiliated with the enormous Nyingmapa School about 17 km north of Gangtok, is estimated to be around 300 years old. Its 17th-century foundations were destroyed by a catastrophe in 1947. The prayer halls have been tastefully refurbished, and visitors are encouraged to make use of the opportunity to do so. The annual Chaam festival is held on 2 days, the 28th and 29th of the Tibetan calendar’s 10th month.

Thekong Tek, leader of the Lepchas, and Khye Bumsa, chief of the Bhutias, made a pact at Kabi Lunchok, which is close to this gompa, in the 13th Century. There are now other memorials at this location, making it a serene and nice area to take a rest.

The beautiful Seven Sisters Waterfall is a stunning cascade of pure water that “cuts a chasm over a wayside cardamom plantation and nosedives into a rocky pool,” located about 30 km from Gangtok. Visit this government-run café to warm yourself with a cup of tea and take in the breathtaking scenery. When taken in a rightward direction, it leads to Lachung. From here on out, the route might be rocky and unfavourable, depending on the weather. A wild trip awaits, so buckle up your mind.

The Definitive Guide to Lachung

Lachung is a great base from which to explore the Himalayas, so plan to spend some time hiking, sightseeing, visiting monasteries, and interacting with the locals (especially the dance and music). This charming hill town has incredible scenery and natural splendour stashed away in its back pocket, making it the icing on the cake that is the state of Sikkim.

Trekking is available in Yumthang Valley and on Mount Katao, while the Bhim Nala falls and the snow-covered Zero points are sure to steal your breath away. Everyone who visits the Lachung monastery should meet some monks and welcome them with reverence before seeing the Mask dance.

Lakes, verdant forests, pastures, and calming but thrilling vistas make just the idea of a trip to Lachung awe-inspiring. Come to Lachung and take some incredible pictures to look back on for the rest of your life.

Yumthang Valley is a must-see if you’re in Lachung. When you visit Yumthang Valley, you’ll see a beautiful aesthetic side: a green valley dotted with pastures, full of little and medium-sized flowers. The existence of a placid blue river in the middle of the valley adds to the enchantment of the flora in the area. Primroses, Louseworts, Cinquefoils, and Cobra-lilies are just a few of the many kinds of flowers that may be found in the valley.

Which location, therefore, should you check out first?

In all candour, any of them would do. In addition, if you want to stay for at least a week, you can easily squeeze both Lachung and Lachen into your schedule because of the short driving time between them (just three to four hours).

Visiting Rajasthan: Five best tourist spots in the State Royale of India

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Keoladeo National Park, formerly known as Bharatpur National Park, is a renowned avifauna refuge and a bird watcher’s paradise on the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Formerly known as Rajputana, or the country of the kings, Rajasthan is today among the most regal states in India. Its total land area is 342,239 square kilometres or 10.4 percent of India. Despite its vast expanse, though, the Thar Desert dominates the region. The Sutlej-Indus Valley is parallel to the Thar Desert. Rajasthan, known as ‘the country of kings,’ earned its illustrious title because it is situated in the vanguard of Indian culture.

The fact that Rajasthan is a princely state means that it has a fantastic collection of arts and architecture. Rajasthan is home to some of the world’s greatest cultural diversity due to the fact that each of its different kingdoms has its own unique architectural and artistic style. This article will provide a list of five of Rajasthan’s most visited attractions.

Mount Abu

Mount Abu, nestled in the Aravalli Mountains, is Rajasthan’s lone hill station. The Dilwara Temples, one of the most beautiful examples of Indian architecture, are, nonetheless, the main draw. Nakki Lake is the perfect place for a peaceful boat ride and a sunset view for weary travellers. The lakeside establishments provide delicious regional cuisine and are perfect for a relaxing meal. In addition, Mount Abu is home to Guru Shikhar, the highest mountain in the Aravali Mountains. The Mount Abu Forest Sanctuary, which is home to a wide variety of plants and animals, is another must-see.

Fortress of Bhangarh

Bhangarh is well-known for its ancient ruins and eerie legends, earning it the reputation of India’s most haunted city. It is conveniently situated between the two major cities of Jaipur and Delhi. The Bhangarh Fort can be found in the Alwar region of Rajasthan and dates back to the 17th Century. Bhagwant Das constructed it for his offspring Madho Singh I. Madho Singh chose to honour his grandpa Man Singh (also spelt Bhan Singh) by naming the place after him.

Walking through the city’s main gate, visitors to Bhoot Bangla, the abandoned fort’s alternative name, feel a shudder run down their spine. There are palaces, havelis, and temples within the fort. The other entrances to the fort include the Lahori Gate, the Phulbari Gate, the Ajmeri Gate, and the Delhi Gate. A plethora of Hindu temples greets visitors just within the gates. The palace of the king is at the very edge of the fort’s confines.

The Eklingji Temple

The 22 km north of Udaipur is where you’ll find one of Rajasthan’s most visited temples: the Eklingji Temple. The Hindu temple of Eklingji is devoted to Lord Shiva, and its stunning design draws many visitors each year. The pyramidal top and intricately carved tower of this two-story temple make it seem spectacular. The peaceful waters lap at the base of the temple’s exterior walls, which are lined with stairs.

Eklingji, supposedly set up in 734 AD by Bappa Rawal, was the supreme deity of the Mewar dynasty. Upon entering this hall, your eyes will be drawn to a stunning silver figure of Nandi; farther inside the temple, you will find two other representations of Nandi, one carved from black stone and the other from brass.

Chand Baori

Chand Baori, located in the hamlet of Abhaneri, is one of the most visited tourist spots in Rajasthan. It is one of many buildings from the 10th Century that are representative of the state of Rajasthan’s artistic and architectural achievements. The stepwell is almost 13 stories deep, and it has over 3500 steps leading to the water storage area. Incredibly, it is still in excellent shape despite being over a thousand years old.

ALSO READ: Magical and miraculous, here is the Land of Mirages – Deserts in Rajasthan

The Archeological Survey of India (ASI) preserves this stunning edifice from bygone times, which is no longer in use but yet displays the old Indian sculptural style and astounding mathematical perfection. Visitors from all over the globe are drawn to the world’s deepest step well to marvel at its stunning beauty and to learn about the region’s rich cultural history and architectural heritage.

Bharatpur National Park

Keoladeo National Park, formerly known as Bharatpur National Park, is a renowned avifauna refuge and a bird watcher’s paradise on the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites. The 29-kilometre natural reserve, called Ghana by the locals, is a patchwork of dry grasslands, forests, wooded marshes, and wetlands. There are 366 species of birds, 379 plant species, 50 fish species, 13 snake species, 5 lizard species, 7 amphibian species, 7 turtle species, and many more invertebrate species that call these environments home. Waterfowl in the thousands arrive at the park each winter to breed.

Travelling from one region of Rajasthan—known as the ‘land of kings and forts’—to another will reveal new facets of the state’s cultural heritage. Only a fraction of the mysteries of this ancient country has been revealed in the aforementioned locations. Tourist attractions in Rajasthan provide some of the most profoundly enlightening experiences imaginable, and they will hold your attention from the minute you set foot in the state.

Magical and miraculous, here is the Land of Mirages – Deserts in Rajasthan

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Festivals and fairs in Rajasthan are some of the liveliest and most colourful celebrations in the world. They capture the vitality and joie de vivre of the people of Rajasthan.

Dry, yet packed with interesting sights, you’ve arrived in the desert, home to camels, sand dunes, and prickly shrubs. You have arrived in the Indian deserts. About 208,110 square kilometres of land are covered by India’s golden sands. These deserts are the hottest and driest locations on Earth, and they span four Indian states: Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. However, the evenings are rather frigid.

There are two distinct types of deserts, the ‘great desert’ and the ‘small desert.’ Located in western Pakistan, the larger desert is a component of the Thar desert, while the smaller desert is renowned as the beautiful Rann of Kutch and it mostly occupies the province of Gujarat. The Thar Desert is located in Rajasthan, comprising 61percent of its physical area (approximately 180,000 sq km). This is in contrast to the Rann of Kutch, which is roughly 45,000 sq km.

The Thar Desert often called the ‘Great Indian Desert’, is bounded to the west by the Indus and Sutlej rivers and to the east by the Aravalli Mountain ranges. The desert encompasses three of the most beautiful towns in Rajasthan: Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, and Bikaner. Jaisalmer, located in the centre of the Thar desert, has the most sand and stones among the three. The very popular Sam Sand Dunes may be found around 42 km from Jaisalmer. Taking a camel safari here is a fantastic way to see the Thar Desert for what it really is. Jodhpur and Bikaner are located at the border between the Thar and the rest of Rajasthan. Camel safaris are a great way to get to know the local culture in these areas. These magical camel rides will take you on a tour of the many palaces, Havelis, and forts that the Rajput kings constructed.

Trip to the desert for a safari

The best way to get a feel for the local culture, wildlife, and history is to take a journey on camels. The endless sand dunes of the gorgeous Jaisalmer and Bikaner may be explored on an exciting desert safari. Some excursions last just a day, ending as the Sun goes down, while others extend over many days.

Culture

Cultural events are performed on these sand dunes as an additional feature of the safari. Oil lanterns illuminate the several camps that have been set up. The indigenous dancers are wonderful, and the countryside resounds with their traditional music. A meal cooked over an open fire while taking in a performance of a traditional sand state dance or ritual is something you won’t find anywhere else.

Festivities and fairs

Festivals and fairs in Rajasthan are some of the liveliest and most colourful celebrations in the world. They capture the vitality and joie de vivre of the people of Rajasthan. When the Sun shines, the sands become a vibrant golden colour. To mark each religious holiday, season, and harvest, the state of Rajasthan hosts a colourful festival and fair. The people of Rajasthan love a good party.

Desert Festival is a time when Rajasthan comes alive with vibrant colours, joyful music, and infectious laughter. Brilliantly coloured folk performances are put on by people. Pushkar Fair, often regarded as the largest livestock fair in the world, is another major draw.

Handicrafts

Carpets, lac bangles, jewellery, clothing, lightweight furniture, and other handicrafts are all specialities of the Rajasthani people.

Flora and fauna

More than 700 plant species have been identified in these arid regions, with just roughly 107 classified as grasses. Most of these plants are edible, particularly the grass form, and they may thrive in very dry environments.

South India, one of India’s regions, has a wealth of tourist attractions. Discovering new areas in southern India during Christmas is an unparalleled pleasure.

In December, the temperature is just right for a trip to the tropics. Also, there are a ton of celebrations planned this month. Exciting extras include adventurous pursuits. And the regional cuisines are gastronomic delights. Decide to go South, and then go South.

There is a vast list of top wintertime destinations in southern India. If you’re planning a vacation to South India in December, you may expect some really unforgettable moments.

Kodaikanal

Kodaikanal, known as the princess of all the hill stations in India, is the most popular winter vacation spot in all of South India. Kodaikanal, a small hill station in Tamil Nadu, has picturesque vistas of lakes, waterfalls, valleys, and green hills. Kodaikanal Lake, the main attraction in the area, serves as the focal point of the business. Located at an elevation of 2,000 metres, this lake has the form of a star and is surrounded by verdant trees. Kodaikanal is a beautiful destination to visit in the winter, with fantastic opportunities for trekking to waterfalls and learning about the region’s abundant flora.

One of the nicest things about this winter vacation spot is the ethereal vista of Kodaikanal Lake in the rain. The weather at Kodaikanal may become very frigid in the winter, with temperatures often dropping to the low. It seems like it’s snowing because the fog freezes into crystals and then falls on the leaves and other surfaces. Finally, gaur is easiest to see in the woods throughout the winter. The animals are enticed to visit Kodaikanal when the population decreases.

Alappuzha

As the ‘Venice of the East,’ Alappuzha (Alleppey) has a stellar reputation. Alleppey, the heart of Kerala’s backwaters and home to a vast network of hinterlands and much more than a thousand houseboats, is one of the state’s most popular tourist destinations. In Alappuzha, you may stay aboard houseboats that are modernized versions of the traditional Kettuvallams. The Malayalam term kettuvallam comes from the words kettu, which refers to dwelling buildings, and vallam, which refers to boats. Tonnes of grain and spices were formerly transported using kettuvallam, a vessel with a matted covering that spans over wooden hulls.

Houseboats now have all the conveniences of a high-end hotel, including air conditioning, flushing toilets, comfortable seating areas, cooking facilities, and even a fishing deck. From the comfort of a houseboat, you can take in the sights and sounds of life along the coconut tree-lined canals. The tranquil waterways and verdant surroundings make it an ideal spot to relax. The 137-year-old pier at Alappuzha Beach, which juts out into the water, and the Portuguese-built lighthouse from the 17th Century only add to the allure of the area. The city has gained international recognition for its boat racing, marine goods, and coir production.

ALSO READ: Why Bandra is an emotion, and totally must visit locale of Mumbai

Get ready to get lost in the maze of canals that make up this little city’s compact downtown and bus terminal. Whether you’re headed west to the coast or any other route into the backwaters, you’ll find that Alleppey transforms into a sophisticated, verdant oasis as you near the aquatic world of huts, hoofed canoes, toddy stores, and houseboats. Gently drift while taking in views of lush green paddy fields, winding rivers, and quaint riverside villages. This is where nature’s finest blessings have been bestowed onto the earth. Visit Alleppey and check out all the top attractions that it has to offer.

Ooty

Ooty, a resort town in the foothills of the Western Ghats, is another of South India’s top winter getaways. In Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiri district, you’ll find a place called Udhagamandalam. Famous for its ponds and dams, parks and gardens, tribal museums, tea factories, historical structures, and the ancient Nilgiri Mountain Railway, Ooty was formerly the summer capital of the British-ruled Madras Presidency.

Ooty is well-known in India as a wonderful place to visit during the winter. The tranquillity and soothing effects of Ooty’s winter landscape are well-known. In the winter, when fog and mist settle over the nearby hills, the scenery is at its most picturesque. White clouds hover above the beautiful tea estates on the hillsides, creating a picture-postcard scene. More importantly, the cool climate makes exploring the area a pleasurable experience.

Coorg

Relaxing coffee aromas will greet you as you open your eyes, and the foggy hills and streams here are a sight to see. Coorg, sometimes called the ‘Scotland of India,’ has earned that nickname because of its alluring blend of historical significance, modern comforts and excitement, and delicious food. The breathtaking beauty and luxury of this hill town in the Western Ghats have made it renowned as a centre for the coffee industry.

The foggy environment is home to the Kodavas, a distinct native clan famed for their expertise in martial arts and their warm hospitality; they are responsible for much of the region’s rich culture. Coorg will push you to the extremes of your emotions, from awe at the majesty of this paradisiacal region, to physical challenge on a walk, to in-depth cultural understanding at Madikeri Fort, to heart-pounding excitement at Abbey Falls, to mouth-wateringly spicy curries, to deliciously sweet, handcrafted chocolates.

Since there are so many things to do within the home, it’s perfect for every kind of traveller, whether they’re in the mood for adventure, exploration, culinary delights, or just peace and quiet. The Keil Poldu (weapons worship), the Cauvery Shankaramana (river goddess return), and the Huttari are just a few of the well-known celebrations (harvest).

Pondicherry

Travellers from Tamil Nadu often make a short trip to Pondicherry, one of South India’s most visited tourist spots. Union Territory of Pondicherry is around 165 km from Chennai. Pondicherry, a city in India that was a French colony until 1954, is widely regarded as one of the country’s best examples of environmental sustainability. Everywhere you look, you’ll find a picturesque scene of white French colonial houses, tree-lined streets, and posh stores. Pondicherry is a popular tourist destination because of its picturesque rural landscapes of brown and green settlements against a clear sky on a bright, sunny day.

It is most pleasant to go around Pondicherry from November through February. Now is the time to take advantage of the area’s many cafés, wander along its beaches, and partake in water sports. In addition, numerous businesses provide scuba diving and surfing lessons throughout the winter, when the weather is mild and the water is warm. If taking one of these classes has been on your list for a while, winter in Pondicherry is the best time to do it because of the mild weather and low tuition rates. The International Yoga Conference, held annually in January in Pondicherry, is another highlight of the season. One of the highlights of the event is the opportunity to learn new yoga and painting techniques.

The Bottom Line

There are several festivals in the southern part of India in the month of December. Besides that, the weather has never been better. Hampi, Kottamkhuzy, Bidar, Chennai, and Kochi are the greatest destinations to visit in south India in December due to the gorgeous scenery and festive atmosphere. The streets of these cities come alive with festivals such as Kochi Carnival and Kerala’s Perumthottam Tharavad, where visitors may witness dance displays, listen to traditional music from indigenous groups, and feast on dishes from the region’s culinary masters. We hope that our list of the best places to explore in southern India in December helps you and your loved ones have a wonderful holiday season and a memorable end to the year.

From Kedarkantha to Pindari Glacier: Top five trekking destinations in Uttarakhand

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Trekking to the Valley of Flowers requires navigating through several glaciers, waterfalls, and bridges, as well as a forest-lined river called the Pushpawati.

When you go hiking in Uttarakhand, you’ll be able to see majestic mountains, plains covered with wildflowers, wild and deep woods, holy rivers, and alpine lakes, among many other beautiful sights. Uttarakhand, a state in the Himalayas in northern India, is renowned as a relaxing and scenic travel destination. Those in search of a thrilling break from everyday life may and should arrange a vacation to Uttarakhand in order to participate in the region’s top hikes. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a first-time hiker or a seasoned pro; there’s always a path that will send shivers up your spine.

There are many great spots to go trekking in Uttarakhand, from short hikes of 5-10 kilometres over easy terrain to longer, more challenging treks that last several days and cover great distances. There are a variety of hikes to choose from, but some of the more popular ones are Roupkund, the Valley of Flowers, Panch Kredar, and Dodital Lake.

Some of Uttarakhand’s finest hikes include the following:

The Kedarnath Trek

Kedarkantha is the undisputed queen of winter treks, and rightfully so. Trekkers love it because of the stunning scenery, the relatively simple paths, and the knee-deep snow that may accumulate in the winter. The pine woodlands of the beautiful Govind National Park provide the setting for the ‘easy on endurance’ track. Reaching an elevation of 12,500 feet is rewarding because of the scenery.

The Kedarkantha trail offers a one-of-a-kind perspective of the cosmos, as well as beautiful meadows, snowy pathways, lovely towns, a fragrant pine forest, sky-scraping peaks, placid rivers, and the faint rumblings of mythical tales.

Hiking the Valley of Flowers

The West Himalayan area of Uttarakhand is home to the Valley of Flowers, a natural bouquet endowed with unique and exotic Himalayan flora. Trekking to the Valley of Flowers requires navigating through several glaciers, waterfalls, and bridges, as well as a forest-lined river called the Pushpawati.

Plush meadows brimming with rare alpine flowers and varied animals may be found in this valley, which is part of a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site.

Expedition to the Chopta Chandrasila

Those who like high-altitude treks could go on an exciting adventure to Chandrashila, the peak of Tungnath, a popular tourist destination. It stands roughly 4, 000 m above sea level. Your efforts will be rewarded with breath-taking vistas of mountains including Nandadevi, Bandarpunch, Trisul, Kedar Peak, and Chaukhamba. Explore the Himalayas’ more chill side by hiking amid their verdant forests and towering snow peaks. Navigate your way through the icy woods and learn about the many flora and wildlife that can be found at this 13,000-foot elevation. Chopta is a beautiful, undiscovered place known as the ‘Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand.’ Here, you may get in touch with nature and relax your mind, body, and spirit. Follow the path to Chandrashila, also known as ‘Moon Rock,’ the peak of Tungnath, later.

Travel to Har Ki Dun

Har Ki Dun, located in GB Pant National Park, is a cradle-shaped valley at an elevation of 3,566 metres. Har Ki Dun is without a doubt one of the most stunning hiking destinations that exemplifies the unparalleled natural beauty of Uttarakhand, with its snow-covered peaks and alpine greenery.

Incredible panoramas of the remote regions of the Garhwal Himalayas may be seen from Har Ki Dun. One of India’s most stunning landscapes, it’s a great starting point for any number of hiking or trekking adventures.

The Pindari Hike

Pindari Glacier, located in the stunning Kumaon Himalayas, is a popular destination for both novice and seasoned hikers since it is one of the easiest glacier hikes available. The Pindari Trek, one of the world’s most stunning hikes, is open for business between May and October.

When talking about potential trekking destinations, Uttarakhand is always mentioned first. There are simple, moderate, and advanced levels of hiking paths in Kumaon and Garhwal (Uttarakhand). The hikes in Uttaranchal may be enjoyable for trekkers of all skill levels. Those looking to go off the beaten road and discover the region’s hidden treasures flock to Uttarakhand for the purpose of hiking. The Chopta Tunganath and Kedarkantha treks, in particular, have seen a surge in interest in recent years.

Summary

Two years of the pandemic and an overdose of family time has had a notable role to play in the upward trend of solo travel. CNBCTV18.com met with some young millennials to decode their intriguing nomadic ‘solo’ patterns. And here is what we found.

While many of us find comfort in clusters, for others a sense of being alone while travel is satiating. Earlier solo travel was considered a niche market. However, since 2016, solo travel has witnessed a significant uptick – with a phenomenal rate of around 131%, which is the growth rate of keyword “solo travel” from 2016 to 2019 on Google. Globally, there has been a 42 percent jump in solo traveller bookings over the last two years.

Decoding the solo travel trend

Let’s admit it, two years of the pandemic and an overdose of family time has had a notable role to play in the upward trend. CNBCTV18.com met with some young millennials to decode their intriguing nomadic ‘solo’ patterns. And here is what we found.

‘No strings attached’

The non-committal Tinder generation wants no commitment. They don’t want to be pinned down to the same people, places, conversations, routines. The desire for constant change. The desire to keep things fresh and interesting rather than getting bound by the monotony of sameness. Excitement in Versatility is what fuels their desire to keep hopping to newer destinations and meeting newer people. Being a “new me” with no past- no baggage for everyone I meet on this voyage.

Finding my tribe

In this era of customisation – the desire to “Choose my Clan”. The people whom I selectively pick, based on my own personal -likes and dislikes- my own voluntary relations. Yearning to create an ecosystem beyond the blood bonds that they are born into.

Unveiling a new story
The unknown is no more scary-It’s exciting. There’s an unsurpassed curiosity that’s building in the millennials- and with that is their growing appetite for risk. They want to take their chances.

Travelling to newer destinations and finding themselves amidst the swarms of unknown ethnicities isn’t intimidating for them- it’s exciting. Making sense of chaos and seeking familiarity in the unfamiliar by drawing resemblances in foreign lands to their own culture- seems like the new millennial hobby.

It’s got to be my way!

One word that is sure to define today’s millennial mindset is “unmalleable”. Bending, adjusting, compromising – are words that don’t find space in this urban dictionary. It’s a “My way or the highway” attitude – may it be with their marriage or their career or their food or their travel choices. Why settle for 60% when I can get 100% of my own choice. They don’t want their travel experiences, exploration and desires to be curtailed with people coming their way.

Unadulterated me-time

While we stay consumed with family, friends and job responsibilities- this is the share of me-time. A date that’s with myself [guilt-free!] Indulging in the things of my liking, without having to give explanations for my wishlist!

If you are now beginning to face the FOMO- and are urged to make your first Solo trip, we have got you covered. There are so many destinations that are waiting for you to pay them a visit and take in the myriad of experiences they have to offer

Here are some places that should make it to your solo travel bucket list

Diaries from Varanasi: In the crowded lanes of Benaras, amid a swarm of people, I found myself”

Understanding how life isn’t black or white – there are shades of Grey. Visibly seeing the tactile closeness of birth and death on the Ghats on Banaras. The celebration of birth and the mourning of grief happening neck to neck- beside each other. This land is all encompassing. A learning in itself. Sitting by the ghats, watching how the Holy Ganges makes its journey fretting through circumstances, nature, people – bearing within it so many secrets, so many prayers, washing so many sins. A place where the good, bad and the evil all meet and face each other. Banaras- the Oldest Living City- will surely get you to meet your true self- align you to your purpose and make you realise the worth of life and each moment that passes by.

Diaries from Ladakh: “I realised how tiny my worries are as I sat down looking at the grandeur of the Pangong”

Truly an adventure of a Lifetime. The remotest region of the country- is an experience that is truly unforgettable. A place that will awaken you to your threshold. The test of physical strength – dealing with the ruggedness of life here. From paucity of water, to dealing with a high altitude. Life slows down here. Makes you realise how tiny you are in front of the grandeur of nature. Each view made of postcard moments- that will make you want to forget your tiny inconsequential worries – and breathe into the vastness of the universe that stands before you. Watching the beautiful Pangong that stretches into China and Tibet or looking at the Zanskar meeting the Indus river-or the grand magnetic hills or the mighty Nubra- making one realise the Bigness of nature and how unreigned and powerful it is.This trip could offer you a lot of experiences that would make you witness your own threshold for fear, curiosity and adventure- like driving highest motorable roads: Chang la, Khar dungla, Shipki la, Baralachna, the Chadar trek or rafting in the freezing waters of the Zanskar lake

Diaries from Goa: “My time to reboot. re-set = a month in goa was invigorating”

We all know the party life with the drinking and the insane clubbing. But imagine a life far away from the cities bustle — where it’s just you and the waves. The sound of the gushing waves waking you up every morning. Virgin beaches and hidden village stays amidst the tropical forests. Meeting people from across the world who are here – just like you- to reset and reboot for their life ahead. Embracing the pause with the sense of calm. The paddy fields, the beautiful lagoons, the white sands far away from the tourist- corrupted belts. Discovering how close to nature you could be. Spending time in the eco villages around Palolem, Uganda to explore fishing and marine adventures or spending time in a cabana style bamboo cottage around Agoda or Ashwem could be an interesting solo holiday- to get you the perfect unwind moments.

Diaries From Wayanad, Kerala : “Being so close to nature in Wayanad was therapeutic. I never knew I needed this detox in my life.”

Feeling stressed out, exhausted, worked up and want a break? Or need a shoulder to cry on or need that pampering, that you got when you were little and the hustle of the world hadn’t consumed you. Wayanad is that lap of Mother Nature waiting to welcome you and bestow on you all the love that you longed for. Therapeutic Ayurveda to take you away from the madness into moments of bliss in this panoramic green plantation paradise. The calm, serene and quaint feels of this town will make you fall in love with yourself, and make you once again prioritise self-care. The yoga retreats and Ayurvedic therapies would are sure to give you the sense of calm that you had been seeking

Dairies From Mumbai: “A city that has witnessed a phoenix rising from the ashes- every single day”

The city is a home to dreams, desires, aspirations, ambitions, goals – a place where a lot of people come with hope in their heart and get tagged as “strugglers”. A city that showcases Darwin’s theory in real – time. Because only fittest will survive here. Only their dreams will matter. The rest would be scarred as failures for life. The city that decides your life path – whether you make it or you don’t. The hard work- the fast pace- the move on attitude breathes in this city- A city that never sleeps. A culture pot with ethnicities from across, all wanting to grow and wanting to try their luck in this gamble of ambition. Seeing real life stories & story tellers- names rising from ashes. This city grows begins to grow on you- intimidates you but at the same time also stimulates you.

Experience the real feels this city with a trip on the Mumbai local train, visit the Film city, and do spot the Bandra film star mansions – dotted by ant- like common men swarms waiting to get a sight of those who actually made it in life.

Diaries from Pondicherry: “A harmonious medley of French, Portugal and Indian culture”

For the opinionated millennial- an opposition point of view is nothing less than a threat and the graceful ability of embracing opposition is something that is still to be learnt. The city of Pondicherry proves- differences/polarisations/extremes could co-exist in harmony beautifully. This beautiful Indian city which is often called “India’s little France/Paris of the East”, has all the French vibes that still linger on from the one hundred and thirty-eight years of French reign. As you go solo-cycling around – you would be able to catch glimpses of the colonial streets, French architecture – also a visit to Auroville can also be quite interesting to have a date with your own spiritual inner self. Surrounded by lakes, splendorous beaches, churches– Pondicherry should definitely be added to your must-do-tripping list.
