Elon Musk is planning hundreds more job cuts across Tesla Inc. as two more senior executives leave the company, according to the Information.

Rebecca Tinucci, senior director of the Supercharger group, and Daniel Ho, head of new products, will no longer work at Tesla from Tuesday, according to the report, which cited an internal company memo. In the email, Musk said he would dismiss everyone working for the executives, with a few employees set to be reassigned, including roughly 500 people from Tinucci’s group, the report said.

The fresh round of cuts comes just weeks after Tesla announced it would lay off more than 10% of its workforce and two top executives — powertrain chief Drew Baglino and head of business development Rohan Patel — publicly announced their resignations. The upheaval reflects broader ructions at the EV maker, which is facing unprecedented local competition in China and has seen a series of price reductions do little to revive slumping sales.

Tesla didn’t immediately respond to an emailed request for comment on the report sent by Bloomberg News outside business hours.

Alongside the announcement of Tinucci’s departure, Musk said Tesla would continue to build out some new Supercharger stations, where critical, and finish those under construction, according to the Information. The extensive charging network is viewed as core to the success of Tesla driving wider EV adoption, and the carmaker allows rival marques to use its chargers.

Musk also signaled the potential for even more job cuts, asking for the resignation of any executive who retains team members whose work isn’t up to standard, according to the report. Bloomberg News has previously reported Musk has pushed for a 20% reduction in Tesla’s workforce.

Tesla’s shares have been whipsawed over the past week as the company announced plans to speed up the release of cheaper models to counter a broad downturn in EV demand. The stock jumped 15% on Monday after the automaker received in-principle approval from government officials to deploy its driver-assistance system in China, though it’s still down more than 20% this year.

UGC NET 2024 exam date changed; check new schedule here

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has postponed the University Grants Commission’s National Eligibility Test (UGC Net) 2024 June examination. Earlier, the UGC NET exam was scheduled for June 16. It will now be held on June 18, 2024, announced UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar, adding the decision was made to avoid a clash with the UPSC Prelims 2024.

Kumar added that the exam was postponed in response to feedback received from candidates.

“The National Testing Agency and UGC have decided to shift the UGC-NET from 16 June (Sunday) to 18 June 2024 (Tuesday) because of feedback received from candidates. NTA will conduct UGC-NET in OMR mode across India on a single day. NTA will soon issue a formal notification,” he wrote on X.

The NTA started the application process on April 20, and candidates can submit their applications by May 10 on the official website of UGC NET, (ugcnet.nta.ac.in).

The UGC-NET exam will be conducted on one day across India in OMR mode. The exam consists of two papers and is conducted in multiple shifts for three hours

Earlier, the chairman also announced that the candidates pursuing a four-year/eight-semester bachelor’s degree programme and are in their last semester/year may also apply for the exam. These applicants may apply in any subject for which they wish to pursue a PhD, regardless of the field in which they completed their four-year bachelor’s degree.

UGC-NET exam is held every year in June and December for candidates aspiring to be eligible for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of aspirants in India prepare for competitive government exams in banking, civil services, railways, and more. Each exam is unique, with its eligibility criteria and syllabus. Attractive salaries and additional perks, including housing, healthcare, and various allowances, make government jobs the most sought-after among youth.

These exams test skills, knowledge and language ability. Here is a list of all the major government examinations scheduled for May 2024.

UPSSSC Exam 2024:

The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UPSSSC) has recently started the registration for the Junior Analyst – Food Recruitment Main exam for 417 vacancies. The eligible candidates can apply on the official website at upsssc.gov.in till May 15, 2024.

SSC CHSL Exam 2024:

The Staff Selection Commission Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination is scheduled for July and the last date to apply is May 7, 2024.

UPSC Exam 2024:

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will conduct the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination — earlier scheduled for May 26 — on June 16, 2024. The Civil Services (Main) Examination 2024 will take place on September 20, 2024. Meanwhile, the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination 2023 will be held in November 2024.

IBPS Exam 2024:

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is an important recruitment examination for the post of office assistants, officer scales I, II, and III, clerks, probationary officers, specialist officers, and others. The IBPS will be conducting the written exam for the various posts on May 05, 2024.

Bombay High Court District Judge 2024:

The Bombay High Court District Judge Mains Exam has been scheduled for Saturday 4 May, 2024 and Sunday, May 5, 2024, at the Mumbai centre. The total number of vacancies for the post is 19.

JKPSC Horticulture Officer Recruitment 2024:

The Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) released the JKPSC Horticulture Officer Exam date. It will fill 41 vacancies. The written examination will take place on May 19, 2024.

London’s employers are letting more staff work entirely from home, according to a prominent recruitment firm, with workers keen to earn the premium paid by jobs in the capital without enduring its high living costs.

The proportion of white-collar jobs at companies in London that are entirely remote has risen from 18% to 22%, a survey by Hays Plc found. That puts London equal with the east of England as the regions where fully remote working is most common.

Firms in the capital are having to fill specialist roles in the tech and compliance sectors, Hays said, which typically come with a smaller pool of candidates. Some job-seekers are reluctant to live in London, where even outer-borough rent prices have soared by double digits.

“If employers can’t fill a position with their usual hybrid framework – over time they will consider remote contracts,” said Lorraine Twist, a finance director at Hays. “This is obviously attractive for candidates as they can enjoy a London salary without the commute and high property prices.”

Hays surveyed close to 12,000 staff and employers between Feb. 26 and March 18.

Flexibility

Companies and staff are still grappling to find a balance between in-person and remote work after the Covid pandemic drastically changed habits. The Labour party, which is far ahead in the polls and expected to win a general election later this year, has pledged to make flexible working a right for all employees from their first day in a job.

Separate figures from Reed Recruitment last week showed that job adverts across England are offering less part-time and remote work.

Still, Hays’ findings suggest that parts of Britain’s labor market remain tight, with firms competing for talent even as unemployment starts to pick up. The Bank of England is keeping a close eye on hiring trends and pay growth for signs of lingering inflation.

The proportion of London staff working entirely in the office dropped to 25% from 28%, while hybrid jobs fell one point to 53%, the survey said. Office landlords in the city have already been hit by a mix of flexible working, weak economic conditions and aging buildings.

SSC CHSL Exam 2024:

The last date to apply for the Staff Selection Commission Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination is May 7, 2024, and the exam for the SSC CHSL 2024 Tier 1 will take place from July 1 to 12, 2024.

JEE Advanced 2024:

The JEE Advanced 2024 exam will be conducted on May 26 and the admit cards will be issued on May 17. The last date to apply for the exam is May 7, while applicants can pay the examination fee by May 10 up to 5 pm. The exam will be held in two shifts — first shift 9 am to noon; second shift 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm.

AP EAMCET:

The AP EAMCET examination, conducted for the selection of students in various engineering, agriculture and pharma courses in Andhra Pradesh, will take place between May 7 and May 11, 2024, and the candidates can submit their forms until May 1 with a late fee of ₹5,000.

CUET PG 2024 (Delhi University):

The CUET PG is an annual entrance exam conducted for admission to postgraduate programmes for the academic session 2024-25. The last date to register for DU PG programmes is May 25.

CUET UG 2024:

The CUET UG 2024 exam is scheduled to be held from May 15 to May 24 for the selection of candidates in undergraduate programmes at various central, state and private participating universities.

Supreme Court dismisses plea seeking postponement of CA exams; details here

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to entertain a plea seeking the postponement of certain papers of the Chartered Accountancy (CA) exams conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

The exams are scheduled for May closer to the 2024 Lok Sabha election dates.

A bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra noted that ICAI did not fix the examination on election dates.

The court stated that voting for the general elections will be held on May 7 and May 13, adding that no exam has been scheduled for the said dates, PTI reported.

It said altering the CA exam date would disrupt the extensive arrangements already in place, adding it could result in “grave injustice for some students”.

Refusing to entertain the plea, the top court stated that scheduling of exams pertains to ‘policy decisions’.

“But weighing the importance of the right to vote we have examined the position of candidates who shall be appearing for exams and would also need to vote. 591 centres are there and no exams on polling dates. At this stage when 4 lakh plus students have enrolled, any relief at this stage would result in grave prejudice,” the CJI said.

This year, the Chartered Accountancy exams are scheduled between May 2 and May 17.

The plea sought the exams scheduled for May 8 and May 14 be postponed. Voting for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be held in some states on May 7 and May 13.

This comes after the Delhi High Court on April 8 refused to postpone the CA exams while hearing another plea related to the matter.

While hearing the matter, the high court said it was surprised that such a request was made before it. It further termed the petition as ‘bereft of substance’.

The counsel representing the ICAI submitted that rescheduling the CA examination to the second week of June would throw the exercise into disarray. It added that due care was taken to ensure that no exams are scheduled on the dates when voting will be conducted.

JEE Advanced 2024: Registration begins today; here’s how to apply

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, will start registration for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2024 on Saturday, April 27. The registration link for the examination will be activated at 5 pm today.

Eligible students, who wish to apply for the IIT JEE Advanced 2024 can visit the official website of the exam at jeeadv.ac.in and look for the direct link once available.

Previously, the online registration process was slated to begin on April 21 but was pushed to April 27. As per the official schedule, the deadline to apply for JEE Advanced 2024 is May 7, while applicants can pay the examination fees by May 10 up to 5 pm.

The JEE Advanced 2024 will be conducted on May 26  and the admit cards will be issued on May 17.

JEE Advanced 2024 will be held in two shifts — the first will be from 9 am to 12 noon, while the second shift is scheduled from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm.

The answer key will be shared on June 2 and the candidates will be provided two days to file their objections. The results will be announced on June 9.

JEE Advanced 2024: Eligibility Criteria

Those students who have passed the JEE Main 2024 and are among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (including all categories) in BE/BTech will be entitled to register for the JEE Advanced 2024.

Besides this, the candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1999, while five years of age relaxation will be provided to SC, ST, and PwD candidates. These candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1994.

JEE Advanced 2024: How to apply?

Eligible candidates who wish to apply for the exam will have to follow these steps:

Step 1. Open the official website of JEE Advanced at jeeadv.ac.in.

Step 2. On the home page, click on the JEE Advanced 2024 link once available.

Step 3. Once a new page opens, the candidate can start the registration process.

Step 4. After registering, log in to your account.

Step 5: Start filling out the application form and pay the fees.

Step 6: After completing the form, click submit and download the page.

Step 7. Keep a hard copy of the same for future reference.

JEE Advanced 2024: Fees

The registration fee for female candidates, SC, ST and the PwD category candidates is ₹1,600, while all the other candidates have to pay ₹3,200. The application fees will have to be paid online.

UPSC Calendar 2025 released: Check the complete date sheet

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released its UPSC exam calendar for 2025. Candidates can access and download the complete date sheet on the official website at upsc.gov.in.

Individuals can check all the exam-related information, including schedule and recruitment tests, for 2025 on the website. It also provides details about the positions, notification dates, deadlines, dates of exams, and duration.

The calendar begins with the Reserved for UPSC RT/Examination on January 11, 2025. Following that, on February 9, 2025, the Combined Geo-Scientist (Preliminary) Examination and Engineering Services (Preliminary) Examination are scheduled.

The dates of the NDA & NA Examination (I), 2025, and the CDS Examination (I), 2025, are scheduled for April 13, 2025. The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2025, and the Indian Forest Service (Preliminary) Examination, 2025 are scheduled to take place on May 25, 2025, through the CS(P) Examination.

Applications for the CISF AC(EXE) LDCE-2025 start on December 4, 2024, and the last date to apply is December 24, 2024. The examination is scheduled for March 9, 2025.

The calendar also includes dates for recruitment exams, including the Limited Departmental Competitive Examination (LDCE), Staff Selection Commission (SSC), Central Armed Police Forces (ACs) Examination etc.

Menstrual Leave: MNLU Mumbai implements policy for students

Mumbai-based Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU) has approved a menstrual leave policy for its students, according to a media report. The Student Bar Council proposed the policy, and the Executive Council unanimously approved it on April 4, it added.

As per the MNLU’s official order, students will be granted one menstrual leave per month with a cap of five leaves per semester, a report on Bar and Bench said. While there is no requirement for a medical certificate, students have to self-certify in physical mode within seven days of availing of this leave, the report added.

Students are also expected to meet the minimum attendance criteria of 67% as mandated by university regulations to be eligible for this leave, it added. The leaves will not be applicable during any examinations or viva voce.

According to the office order detailing the policy, students will be entitled to one menstrual leave per month, capped at five leaves per semester. Chartered Accountant exams to be held three times a year beginning May

The role of a Chartered Accountant (CA) encompasses a broad spectrum of financial activities, including financial account preparation, advisory services, auditing, and account analysis.

CAs also oversee tax payments and financial planning. The pursuit of a CA qualification promises lucrative salary packages, often in the range of lakhs. Notably, the frequency of Chartered Accountants’ exams is undergoing a shift from twice a year to three times a year.

The implementation of this new examination system, offering exams three times a year for the foundation and intermediate courses, is set to commence from May or June.

Consequently, aspiring CAs will have additional opportunities to sit for their examinations in September and January.

The pathway to becoming a CA begins after completing the 12th grade, with no specific stream requirement—students from arts, science, or commerce backgrounds are eligible to apply.

The CA entrance exam, known as the Foundation Exam, marks the starting point. Prospective candidates first enrol in the entry-level course CPT, followed by IPCC and finally the FC course. Upon completing these stages, individuals can apply for membership in the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

Currently, the CA Foundation Exam is administered twice annually, typically in May and November. Registration with ICAI is a prerequisite for appearing in this exam, which comprises four papers—two subjective and two objective—amounting to a total of 400 marks.

To pass the Foundation Exam, candidates must achieve a minimum of 50%, or 200 out of 400 marks, and secure at least 40% in each subject.
