KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

People are advised to use public transport facilities, especially the Delhi Metro, to reach the venue. Lal Quila, Jama Masjid and Kashmere Gate are the nearest metro stations that can be used to reach the Red Fort.

The Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory for Bharat Parv, scheduled to be held at Red Fort during January 23-31.

Food courts and handicraft stalls will be set up at 15 August Park and Madhav Das Park for the general public, it said.

Like earlier, this edition of Bharat Parv will showcase the Republic Day tableaux, performances by Armed Forces bands, cultural performances by zonal cultural centres and state/Union Territory troupes, a pan-India food court and crafts bazaar, pavilions of state governments and central ministries, among others, it stated.

“The inaugural function of Bharat Parv will be held on Tuesday and it will be open to the general public till January 31. As per past experience, it is expected that the event will also attract a large number of visitors on all days from 12 pm to 10 pm. Many VIPs/VVIPs will also visit Red Fort on this occasion,” according to the advisory.

Traffic is being diverted from Chatta Rail Crossing, Subhas Park T-point, Shanti Van Chowk and Delhi Gate, according to requirements during the period of Bharat Parv so that congestion is avoided, it said.

Traffic restrictions or regulation or diversion may be imposed on Netaji Subhas Marg from Chatta Rail Chowk to Delhi Gate and Nishad Raj Marg from Shanti Van crossing to the Subhas Park T-point, the advisory said.

Many paid parking facilities are available near Red Fort and visitors and the general public can use it depending on their need.

The general public has been advised to avoid the roads or stretches where there will be diversions and the area where the function is organised. Commuters going to New Delhi and Old Delhi railway stations and the ISBT should leave with sufficient time in hand to accommodate possible delays, the advisory said.

People are advised to use public transport facilities, especially the Delhi Metro, to reach the venue. Lal Quila, Jama Masjid and Kashmere Gate are the nearest metro stations that can be used to reach the Red Fort, it said.

The advisory urged the public to park vehicles only at designated lots and avoid roadside parking as it hinders the normal traffic flow.

It has also asked people to inform the local police or the nearest personnel if they spot any unusual or unidentified object or person in suspicious circumstances.

Addressing the 77th Independence Day celebrations from the ramparts of Red Fort, PM Modi said, “Today, ‘parivarvaad’ (dynasty politics) and appeasement has caused much misfortune for our country…’parivarvaad’ parties cannot strengthen the democracy in India. For them, their life mantra is — party of the family, by the family and for the family…”

“Therefore, it is important that India gets rid of this dynasty politics in a bid to strengthen the democracy of India,” he added.

The prime minister condemned corruption, nepotism and appeasement as the three evils that have harmed the country immensely. He added that corruption has badly affected India’s capabilities and the country has to resolve to not tolerate it in any form. He also said that the politics of appeasement has inflicted the most harm on social justice.

PM Modi said it is a collective responsibility to promote “suchita (probity), pardarshita (transparency), nishpakshta (objectivity)” to make India developed. “It is Modi’s life-long commitment to keep fighting against corruption…My government weeded out 10 crore fake beneficiaries of welfare schemes, seizure of ill-gotten assets rose by 20 times,” he said.

Summary

India’s Independence Day celebrations this year will be held on a grand scale after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 800 citizens, including workers, teachers and farmer-producer organisations, have been invited to the Red Fort event in Delhi.

Stalled since March 2020 due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, India’s Independence Day celebrations this year will be the first in the last three years to be done at a grand scale. Per a News18 report, the invitees for the Red Fort celebrations in Delhi include a diverse group of over 800 citizens who have contributed to the nation.

The Centre has invited 50 construction workers and labourers affiliated with several government schemes such as Amrit Sarovar, Har Ghar Jal, PM Shram Yogi Maandhan, Central Vista, PM Kisan and PM Vikas.

Fifty nurses, 50 fishermen, 50 khadi workers, 50 primary school teachers, and 301 sarpanches from various villages have also been invited as “special guests” along with their spouses.

The Ministry of Agriculture has also invited chairpersons and CEOs of around 250 farmer-producer organisations to support local produce and improve the economy while directly benefiting farmers.

Invitees will be seated in a dedicated enclosure on August 15 and stay in the national capital for three days during Independence Day celebrations. According to officials, guests have been asked to submit their identification cards to the Ministry of Defence for accreditation cards and have been informed about the protocol.

Arrangements for the guests’ stay and travel to and from the various states they are coming from will be arranged by respective government departments.

“It’s to ensure that they won’t face any problem in attending the event,” the official told News18.

The participation of “commoners” was earlier highlighted as a part of the theme of India’s 74th Republic Day this year and was “appreciated by everyone,” an official told News18. Among those invited on January 26 were “Shram Yogis” of Central Vista, Kartavya Path, the new Parliament building and milk, vegetable and street vendors.

Taking inspiration from that success, the government has decided to invite guests working towards nation-building such as teachers, health workers, construction workers and the rural workforce.

Among the 250 invited farmer producer organisations is the CEO of Tamil Nadu’s Viruthai Millets Farmer Producer Company Ltd, Rajendran K, who described receiving the invitation as a “nice feeling.”

“I received e-mails as well as several phone calls from government officials in the first week of July to invite me over for I-day celebrations at Red Fort this year and we have been coordinating since. At first, I thought the phone call was for some agricultural conference, but I couldn’t have imagined that they actually wanted us to participate in the event. It’s a nice feeling to be a special guest this way. It’s the government’s way of recognising our efforts of contributing to the economy,” Rajendran K told News18.
