Prince Harry is attending King Charles Coronation; all about where he will be seated & his role in ceremony

Summary

Charles’s younger son Harry and his American wife Meghan quit royal duties in 2020 and have since unleashed a string of barbed attacks on the monarchy

Prince Harry, who is attending his father King Charles III Coronation on Saturday, will be seated ten rows behind the rest of the senior royals, a royal associate has said.

Paul Burrel has said that the prince will make a quick exit at the May 6 coronation amid the ongoing feud between the royals.

Reports said that Prince Harry along with Uncle Andrew will have no formal role in the proceedings and remain out in the cold.

The royal associate further said that there is “no chance of reconciliation” and the Duke of Sussex will “be in and out in a flash.”

“It is not a surprise, he is coming to show face. He is coming to put his foot in the door and he is coming because his father wants him to be there,” Paul Burrel said while speaking to GB News.

He said that Harry sitting in the tenth row may be a blessing to him as he will be well-poised for a quick getaway.

“His father will be delighted that both his sons will be there to witness this incredible day in his life,” Burrel said adding that Harry “is not going to hang around.”

According to a report in The Independent, Prince William will also have “no interest” in speaking to Prince Harry during the coronation.

Buckingham Palace last month said Prince Harry will attend the coronation, ending months of speculation about whether the prince would be welcome at the Royal event.

Harry will not be accompanied by his wife Meghan who will stay at home in California with their children.

Harry’s attendance is seen as particularly sensitive since the publication of his blockbuster memoir “Spare” in January. In the explosive autobiography, the 38-year-old prince claimed his elder brother Prince William attacked him during an argument about Meghan, an American former television actress.

Harry is fifth in line to the throne, following his brother Prince William, and William’s three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis of Wales.

Meghan has remained in California with the children, thereby avoiding potentially awkward interactions with her in-laws.

The first hearing in the lawsuit filed by Britain’s Prince Harry, singer Elton John, among a few other renowned personalities, against UK’s Daily Mail newspaper began on Monday. The case is regarding breaches of privacy including alleged phone tapping.

The seven claimants including Prince Harry, Elton John, Elizabeth Hurley, Sadie Frost, and David Furnish, launched the action against the publisher last year. However, legal restrictions that the newspaper group requested have not yet been made public.

In October, lawyers of Prince Harry and Frost released a statement saying the case against the publisher of Daily Mail — Associated Newspapers — included calls, homes, and cars being bugged as well as paying people for sensitive information.

Harry is also already suing the publisher for an article that alleges he tried to hush up his legal challenge over the UK government’s refusal to allow him to pay for security. Earlier this month, at a hearing in the London high court, his lead attorney had asked Judge Matthew Nickin to either strike out the publisher’s defence or to deliver a summary judgment, which would then be a ruling in his favour without going to trial.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan lost their UK police protection that was publicly funded when they stepped down as senior working members of the royal family and moved to North America in 2020.

Harry and Meghan to be evicted from their UK cottage: Report

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

The eviction move was reportedly planned by King Charles following the release of Prince Harry’s highly controversial memoir Spare in January. Harry made several explosive claims against the royal family.

The latest royal rumblings in the UK suggest that King Charles is evicting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from their former UK residence, Frogmore Cottage. The property has reportedly been offered to Prince Andrew, King Charles’ brother, reported The Sun.

The move was reportedly planned by King Charles following the release of Prince Harry’s highly controversial memoir Spare in January. Harry made several explosive claims against the royal family, including accusations of getting into a tussle with his brother Prince William over Meghan, accusing Queen Consort Camilla of leaking stories about the brothers to the press, and details of the argument between Duchess Kate and Meghan during Meghan and Harry’s wedding preparations.

The Frogmore Cottage was a wedding present from the late Queen Elizabeth II. Harry and Meghan had invested £2.4 million in renovations before moving in. However, the couple spent only six months here before leaving the Royal family and their royal responsibilities in 2020 and moving overseas.

Harry and Meghan were last at Frogmore Cottage in the summer of 2022, when they were preparing for their European tour. The couple had also reportedly celebrated their daughter’s first birthday at the cottage while they were in the country for Queen Elizabeth’s platinum jubilee.

Buckingham Palace has issued an eviction notice to the couple, which means Prince Harry will lose his last ties to the UK. Harry and Meghan mostly live in their Montecito mansion in California, US. The couple counts Oprah Winfrey, Ariana Grande, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ellen DeGeneres, Katy Perry, Rob Lowe and Larry David as neighbours.

While Harry had stated in several interviews that he wishes to reconcile with his father and brother, but the release of his memoir may have closed that avenue. Many had criticised Harry’s memoir for fanning the media fire around the royals, which he has consistently said he wishes to get away from, and revealing personal details and information of many family members.

The irony of Prince Andrew, who is resisting the offer to move, taking over Frogmore Cottage is perhaps not lost on anyone keeping up with royal tabloids. Prince Andrew is accused of sexual activities with minors, in association with sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Harry had written about Prince Andrew still receiving his security detail while Harry and Meghan’s security detail was removed.

“Despite being involved in an embarrassing scandal, accused of having sexually abused a young woman, nobody had suggested removing his security,” he had written in Spare.

Harry and Meghan, Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Aniston and others to vacate homes in this Californian town

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Montecito is expected to receive an additional 20 cm of rainfall in the next 24 hours. The town has already received more rainfall in the past few days than it does in an average year.

A Californian town where many rich and famous have their vacation abodes is being evacuated as continuing storms have triggered flood and mudslide warnings. The 9,000-strong town of Montecito is home to Britain’s Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle and also counts Gwyneth Paltrow, Ellen DeGeneres, Katy Perry, Rob Lowe and Larry David as residents. Other celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Jennifer Aniston also have multi-million-dollar mansions in the small community around 144 km north of Los Angeles.

Residents have received messages from the local fire department asking them to evacuate as soon as possible. The continuous rain that has battered California, which is usually in the headlines for its long droughts, has threatened to cause flooding and in the case of hilly Montecito, mudslides.

“LEAVE NOW! This is a rapidly evolving situation. Please pay close attention to emergency alerts,” a fire department alert on their website said.

Montecito is expected to receive an additional 20 cm of rainfall in the next 24 hours. The town has already received more rainfall in the past few days than it does in an average year.

“Over the last 30 days, Montecito has received 12-20+ inches of rain across the community, exceeding our yearly average of 17 inches. This cumulative, saturating rain puts the community at greater risk of flooding and debris flow,” the Montecito Fire Department said on Twitter. Along with Montecito, Southern Californian towns of Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz have also been ordered to evacuate.

While the Golden State has been infamous over the past few years for not receiving enough rain, California has been battered by a series of successive storms that have brought a large amount of downpour which has quickly saturated the soil. US President Joe Biden issued an emergency declaration for California on Sunday in order to bring more resources for rescue and recovery efforts even as California Governor Gavin Newsom said that over 12 people have died in the past 10 days in the state.

Rescuers and emergency responders have been called in to help hundreds of stranded victims. But rising water levels and currents have made rescue operations dangerous in many cases, including the search and rescue operation for a five-year-old boy who was swept away by floodwaters.

Prince Harry set to drop more bombshells about British Royals in in TV interviews

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Harry’s book Spare, which went on sale in Spain on Thursday five days before its official release, chronicles not only hugely personal details, such as how he lost his virginity and took drugs, but also discloses more intimate private instances of family disharmony.

Days after Prince Harry’s memoir accidentally went on sale early with new allegations of discord and conflict within the British royal family, a series of TV interviews with him will start airing on Sunday with the prospect of yet more damaging attacks on the monarchy.

Harry’s book Spare, which went on sale in Spain on Thursday five days before its official release, chronicles not only hugely personal details, such as how he lost his virginity and took drugs, but also discloses more intimate private instances of family disharmony.

His elder brother, heir to the throne Prince William, knocked him over in a brawl, and both siblings begged their father King Charles to not marry his second wife, Camilla, now the Queen Consort, the book says.

Commentators say it has plunged the monarchy into its biggest crisis since the days of the royal soap opera in the 1990s around the break-up of Charles’ marriage to his late first wife Princess Diana — William and Harry’s mother.

All this comes just four months after Queen Elizabeth died and Charles ascended to the throne.

”So here’s Charles trying to establish himself as the new king and now Harry’s thrown this hand grenade and it’s all coming kind of crashing around him,” royal biographer Tina Brown said.

Since Harry and Meghan left royal duties and moved to California in 2020, they have railed at their treatment by the royals and the palace institution.

From their interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021 to their six-part Netflix documentary series last month and now Harry’s book, the couple’s message has been the same: that the royals and their aides not only failed to protect them from a hostile and sometimes racist press, but actively leaked negative stories about them.

On Sunday, Harry’s public thoughts will keep coming, with three more TV interviews due to air. They had been timed for broadcast ahead of the official launch of Harry’s book on Tuesday, and excerpts released ahead of time have shown Harry saying he wanted to give his side of the story.

”I don’t know how staying silent is ever going to make things better,” Harry says in his interview with Britain’s ITV, which will be the first to be shown.

Polls suggest many Britons are becoming bored of the whole royal melodrama, and further revelations are unlikely to shake their views, whether sympathy for Harry and Meghan, or for those they criticise. However Harry’s book was No. 1 on Amazon UK’s bestselling books list on Saturday, available for pre-order ahead of its release.

Prince Harry criticised for terming Taliban killings in Afghanistan as ‘chess pieces’

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

The Spanish version of the book quotes Harry as saying, “It wasn’t a statistic that filled me with pride but nor did it leave me ashamed.” “When I found myself plunged in the heat and confusion of combat I didn’t think of those 25 as people.”

UK’s Prince Harry has come under fire from the Taliban government after the British royal claimed in his biography that he killed 25 people in Afghanistan while serving as a military helicopter pilot, referring to them as “chess pieces removed from the board”.

The deeply intimate book “Spare” by Harry was on sale in Spain a few days prior to its worldwide release on January 10.  In addition to other disclosures about the prince’s drug use and how he lost his virginity, it reveals the extent of the conflict between him and his brother William, the heir to the throne.

The 38-year-old recounts his two tours of duty in Afghanistan—the first in 2007–2008 as a forward air controller and the second in 2012 as a co-pilot gunner in Apache attack helicopters—as well as the number of individuals he killed during those deployments.

The Spanish version of the book quotes Harry as saying, “It wasn’t a statistic that filled me with pride but nor did it leave me ashamed.” “When I found myself plunged in the heat and confusion of combat, I didn’t think of those 25 as people.”

“They were chess pieces removed from the board, Bad people eliminated before they could kill Good people,” he added.

The statements were criticised by Abdul Qahar Balkhi, a spokesman for the Afghan foreign ministry run by the Taliban.

“The western occupation of Afghanistan is truly an odious moment in human history and comments by Prince Harry is a microcosm of the trauma experienced by Afghans at the hands of occupation forces who murdered innocents without any accountability,” Balkhi said.

Senior Taliban leader Anas Haqqani tweeted in response to the prince’s remarks: “Mr Harry! The ones you killed were not chess pieces, they were humans; they had families who were waiting for their return.”

“I don’t expect that the (International Criminal Court) will summon you or the human rights activists will condemn you, because they are deaf and blind for you,” he added.

The book follows Harry and his American spouse Meghan’s retirement from royal responsibilities in 2020 to relocate to California and start a new life. Since that time, the pair has let out scathing criticism of the British press and the House of Windsor.

King Charles and Prince William’s spokesmen have refrained from commenting, as is typical for the royal family.

The specifics of the books have received extensive coverage in the British media, but many commuters in London on Friday expressed disinterest and a desire to avoid the topic.

Those who were ready to speak up expressed their opinion that Harry had overstepped his bounds.

Colonel Richard Kemp, a former army officer, told the BBC that Harry’s remarks were “ill-judged.” He stated that the comments may have jeopardised his security and could provoke a sense of vengeance.

‘He knocked me to the floor’, Prince Harry accuses brother William of physical attack in upcoming memoir

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

In the memoir, Spare, which is set to release on January 10, Harry describes a confrontation with Prince William at his London home in 2019. According to The Guardian, Harry writes that William called Meghan “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive”, which Harry calls a “parrot [ing of] the press narrative” about his wife.

Prince Harry has accused his brother Prince William of physical violence in his upcoming memoir. Prince Harry recounts what he says was a physical attack by his brother, now Prince of Wales, over an argument related to Harry’s marriage with Meghan Markle.

The palace is yet to respond to the allegation.

The confrontation then escalated quickly. Harry adds that William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocked me to the floor”.

“I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”

However, he also recalled that William looked “regretful, and apologised” after he was asked to leave post the fight.

The book further noted that William turned back and said, “You don’t need to tell Meg about this,” “You mean that you attacked me?” Harry asked to which William responded, “I didn’t attack you, Harold.”

Harry had just told his therapist about the incident, but then Meghan noticed “scrapes and bruises” on his back.

The extraordinary scene is one of many from the memoir, which is expected to spark a serious furore for the British royal family.

The book’s title comes from an old saying in royal and aristocratic circles that a first son is an heir to titles, power and fortune, and a second son is therefore a spare, in case anything happens to the first-born.

Earlier, in a TV interview with a British channel, Prince Harry had said that he wants his father King Charles and brother back as a “family, not an institution”.

William and Harry were once seen as very close after the death of their mother, Princess Diana, in a Paris car crash in 1997.

But the brothers have fallen out since Harry married Meghan, a former actress, in 2018 and the couple then stepped down for royal duties to move to California two years later.

Since their departure, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as the couple are officially known, have delivered stinging criticism of the Windsors and the British monarchy which has included accusations of racism which William himself has dismissed.

Last month, their six-part Netflix documentary, which attracted record audiences, aired with renewed accusations including that William had screamed at Harry during a crisis summit to discuss his future.

The main criticism from Harry and Meghan is that royal aides not only refused to hit back at hostile, inaccurate press coverage but were complicit in leaking negative stories to protect other royals, most notably William.

Prince Harry says ‘silence is betrayal’ in explosive interview with Anderson Cooper

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

The interview will air on the US TV channel CBS on Sunday, January 8. “Every single time I’ve tried to do it privately, there have been briefings and leakings and planting of stories against me and my wife,” Harry told Cooper.

Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, who is awaiting the release of his autobiography ‘Spare’ next week, sat down with Anderson Cooper on the news show 60 Minutes for a “revealing and explosive interview”.

In the promo of the interview that airs on January 8 on CBS, Cooper asks Prince Harry how he has received criticism for publicly stepping back from the institutional role of a royal. Harry responds that he had first intended to be private in stepping back from his public roles, but had to go public in order to address rumours and tabloids.

“Every single time I’ve tried to do it privately, there have been briefings and leakings and planting of stories against me and my wife,” Harry told Cooper. “You know, the family motto is ‘never complain, never explain,’ but it’s just a motto.”

Harry went on to say that “they will feed or have a conversation with the correspondent” and “spoon-feed information” to write stories about Harry and his wife, the former actress Meghan Markle.

“And at the bottom of it, they will say that they’ve reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment. But the whole story is Buckingham Palace commenting,” he added.

Harry added that Buckingham Palace had told him that they couldn’t publish statements to protect him and his wife for the last six years but the institution had put out statements to protect other members of the family. “It becomes– there becomes a point when silence is betrayal,” he said.

The interview comes just a few weeks after the explosive Netflix documentary ‘Harry & Meghan’, which wasn’t received well by the royals. Directed by Liz Garbus, the series had the biggest premiere of any Netflix show.

I want my father and brother back: Prince Harry before autobiography release

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Harry made these comments and more during a conversation with ITV. He also spoke with CBS News. Both interviews will be aired on January 8, two days before the publication of his autobiography titled Spare. Recently, the six-part ‘docu series’ Harry & Meghan became the most-viewed Netflix series.

Britain’s Prince Harry on Monday, January 2, in an interview with broadcaster ITV said his troubled relationship with the royal family “never needed to be this way” and he wants to get his father King Charles and his brother “back” in his life. In the video, he remarked, “It never needed to be this way. I would like to get my father back; I would like to have my brother back.” Additionally, he claims that “they’ve shown absolutely no willingness to reconcile,” but it is uncertain as to whom he is referring.

Prince Harry made these comments during a conversation with ITV’s Tom Bradby, and he also spoke with CBS News. Both interviews will be broadcast on January 8, two days before the publication of his autobiography titled Spare.

Prince Harry, while speaking to Anderson Cooper of CBS, alleged that he was betrayed before leaving his position as a working royal. “So when we’re being told for the last six years, ‘we can’t put a statement out to protect you,’ but you do it for other members of the family, there becomes a point when silence is betrayal,” he said.

Prince Harry’s interpersonal relationships and ‘never-before-heard details’ about the passing of his mother Diana, Princess of Wales, will also be discussed at length during the interview, as per ITV.

In the trailer of the interview, which was filmed in California where the Sussexes reside, Harry can be seen talking about “the leaking and the planting” of stories by the royals. He added, “I want a family, not an institution.”

“They feel as though it is better to keep us somehow as the villains,” Harry said. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and his wife Meghan, officially resigned from their positions as members of the royal family in March 2020. They declared that they wanted to start new lives in the United States away from media harassment.

Since then, they have expressed displeasure with how they were treated as members of the royal family, with Harry accusing William, Prince of Wales, of shouting at him at a meeting to decide his future.

Recently, the six-part ‘docu series’ Harry & Meghan became the most-viewed Netflix series.
