Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit three states today, inaugurates airport in Arunachal Pradesh

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit three states — Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat – on Saturday.

Modi kickstarted his packed schedule with a visit to Arunachal Pradesh in the morning, where he inaugurated the state’s first greenfield airport, about 25 km from the capital city of Itanagar. Located at Hollongi, the Donyi Polo airport is expected to boost connectivity, trade and tourism in the state. The airport was developed at a cost of Rs 640 crore and will start the operation of commercial flights on November 28.

The inauguration of this airport is a strong reply to those who claimed that the foundation stone for the project was laid because of the upcoming elections in Arunachal Pradesh, Modi said during the inauguration. He said development cannot be linked to “politics and elections”.

PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Donyi Polo airport before the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.

“Right now, I’m here where the sun rises in Arunachal Pradesh and in the evening, I will be there where the sun sets. In the middle I will visit Kashi as well,” Modi said, emphasising that he works for the development of the country 24 hours a day.

In Arunachal Pradesh, PM Modi also dedicated the 600 MW Kameng hydropower station to the nation. The government developed the Kameng hydropower project at a cost of over Rs 8,450 crore. The power station spreads over an area of more than 80 km in the West Kameng district.

Union law minister Kiren Rijiju, who is a Member of Parliament from the state, and chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu were present at the inauguration event.

Two top academic institutions – IIT and BHU – are implementing the programme which will be attended by more than 2,500 delegates from Tamil Nadu.

In the evening, PM Modi will fly to his home state of Gujarat to campaign for the upcoming Assembly elections. He will address an election rally in Valsad today evening and stay the night there.

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

The PM will inaugurate houses built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and a few other projects in Tripura and the Donyi Polo greenfield airport in Arunachal Pradesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh later this month as part of his tour of the North-Eastern states.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the houses built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and a few other projects during his visit to Tripura, news agency PTI quoted Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha as saying in Agartala. Tripura has sanctioned 1.60 lakh houses under the PMAY scheme during the 2021-22 financial year.

While PM Modi’s itinerary was yet to be finalised, Saha said the PM is scheduled to visit the two states on October 27 or 28. “If he goes to Arunachal Pradesh first, he will come here on the 28th. If he comes to Tripura first, he will come here on the 27th, and will go to Arunachal later,” PTI quoted Saha as saying.

In Tripura, the PM will hold a public rally and lay the foundation stones of some projects. Tripura is set to hold Assembly elections early next year.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the Prime Minister is likely to inaugurate the Donyi Polo Airport in Itanagar.

Officials said Chief Minister Pema Khandu had recently met PM Modi in New Delhi and asked him to inaugurate the airport and the 600 MW capacity Kameng hydroelectric power project in the state, news agency IANS reported.

With a 2,300-metre runway, Donyi Polo will be the first airport in the state to have the capacity to land big aircraft. The airport covers an area of 4,100 sqm and is equipped with all the modern facilities for passengers. The Airports Authority of India spent Rs 650 crores to develop the airport and boost air connectivity to the state. On October 18, an Airbus A320 of budget carrier IndiGo successfully completed a test landing at the Donyi Polo airport.

The Kameng hydroelectric project, executed by state-owned North East Electric Power Corporation Ltd, is the largest of its kind in the Northeast. The project was developed at an estimated cost of around Rs 8,000 crores.

Integration of two schemes

As the chief minister of Gujarat, PM Modi introduced the Mukhyamantri Amrutam (MA) scheme in 2012. The aim of the scheme was to provide healthcare facilities to the economically weaker sections and protect them from the high cost of medical treatment and illness.

In 2014, the MA Yojana scheme was extended to cover families with an annual income of Rs 4 lakh. It was later extended to other groups and rebranded as the Mukhyamantri Amrutam Vatsalya (MAV) Yojana.

Following the launch of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), the Gujarat government integrated the MA / MAV Yojana with the AB-PMJAY in 2019. The beneficiaries of the MA/MAV scheme and AB-PMJAY are now eligible for the PMJAY-MA cards.

PVC Ayushman cards

PM Modi will kickstart the distribution of these cards today after which 50 lakh PVC (made of polyvinyl chloride material) Ayushman cards will be distributed among the beneficiaries across the state. The distribution will be done by the National Health Authority empanelled agencies after doing e-KYC of beneficiaries.

Since the integration of the two schemes, the state has issued PMJAY-MA cards to 1.58 crore beneficiaries in Gujarat. From September 2021 till now, the state has doled out more than 5 million cards and freshly printed Ayushman PVC cards will be available to these beneficiaries, the state said.

PM Modi to inaugurate first phase of the Rs 856-crore Shri Mahakal Lok corridor in Ujjain

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Stretching over 900 metres, the ‘Mahakal Lok’ corridor is billed as one of the largest such corridors in India, located around 200 km from the state capital Bhopal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first phase of the Rs 856-crore ‘Shri Mahakal Lok’ (corridor) in Ujjain city on Tuesday, October 10, news agency PTI quoted Madhya Pradesh home minister Narottam Mishra as saying. He will also address a public meeting in the city.

Stretching over 900 metres, the ‘Mahakal Lok’ corridor is billed as one of the largest such corridors in India, located around 200 km from the state capital Bhopal.

The state is preparing a grand event for the inauguration of the corridor, PTI quoted an official as saying.

On Sunday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, state ministers and other officials visited the Mahakal Lok and reviewed the preparations for the grand event. The chief minister oversaw the dress rehearsal of the various cultural performances that have been organised to welcome Modi. The cultural programmes will be held in the corridor premises, from Nandi Dwar to the temple, Outlook reported.

Singer Kailash Kher is expected to sing a song dedicated to Lord Shiva, the resident deity of the ancient Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, on an inaugural day.

The corridor spreads around the old Rudrasagar Lake, which has been revived as part of the ancient Mahakaleshwar Temple redevelopment project.  The Mahakaleshwar Temple is one of the 12 ‘jyotirlingas’ in the country which attracts a large number of devotees throughout the year.

The major highlights of the Mahakal Lok corridor are going to be two grand gateways — Nandi Dwar and Pinaki Dwar. The complex will be adorned with fountains, a colonnade with 108 ornate pillars made of sandstones, and a running panel with more than 50 murals depicting stories from Shiv Puran.

The first phase of the project has been developed at Rs 316 crores.

Work on the Mahakal temple complex was planned in 2017. The expansion project has been undertaken in two phases. The government will complete the work on the second phase in 2023-24, AIR reported.

The government has brought sandstones from Bansi Paharpur in Rajasthan to build the structures in the corridor. Most of the artisans and craftsmen came from Rajasthan, Gujarat and Odisha to work on chiselling and embellishing raw stones into aesthetic pillars and panels.

To ensure the safety of visitors, the corridor has placed CCTV cameras and public address systems at regular intervals. The public address system will be used to make announcements for crowd management. It will also play devotional songs for the public.

Apart from this, the temple corridor complex will also have an integrated control and command centre which will monitor security arrangements in the complex.

According to Ashish Kumar Pathak, chief executive officer of Ujjain Smart City, the project may not be able to restore the ancientness of the Mahakaleshwar Temple, it hopes to “re-evoke that glory through old, aesthetic architecture”.

Horticultural species mentioned in Abhigyan Shakuntalam by Kalidas have been planted in the corridor.

Pedestrians will walk on cobbled stone paths. The project will have a huge pavilion called the Triveni Mandapam with a fountain that holds a sculpture of Lord Shiva at the centre.

There will be around 190 sculptures highlighting the various forms of Lord Shiva, and other deities, in the lakefront of the corridor.

After the completion of the mega project, the temple complex area will expand from 2.87 ha earlier to 47 ha. This will also enhance the holding capacity of the temple complex significantly.

According to a report by All India Radio, there are over 5,000 self-help groups in the Sheopur district and more than 70,000 women are associated with them. Most of these women are eager to meet the Prime Minister and believe he will give a new identity to their work in India as well as abroad.

This Delhi restaurant is serving special “56 inch thali” on PM Modi’s birthday

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

One lucky couple visiting the restaurant between September 17 and 26 and ordering this thali will also get the opportunity to win an all-expenses paid trip to Kedarnath – one of the favourite destinations of the prime minister

To celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 72nd birthday in a unique way, a restaurant in Delhi is planning to offer a special thali and name it “56inch Modi Ji” thali.

ARDOR 2.1 restaurant in Connaught Place will present a thali with 56 items and the customers will have the option of choosing vegetarian or non-vegetarian options.

Sumit Kalara, the owner of the restaurant, said he came up with the idea as he wanted to gift the prime minister, whom he respects very much, something unique on his birthday.

“We want to gift him (Modi) this thali and want him to come here and eat. But due to security reasons, we can’t do that, so this is for all of his fans who love him a lot,” ANI quoted Kalara as saying.

ARDOR 2.1 will also give customers a chance to win rewards up to Rs 8.5 lakh with the special thali. “If any of the two from a couple finishes this thali in 40 minutes we will give them Rs 8.5 lakh award,” Kalara said.

One lucky couple visiting the restaurant between September 17 and 26 and ordering this thali will also get the opportunity to win an all-expenses paid trip to Kedarnath – one of the favourite destinations of the prime minister, he added.

Last year, the restaurant also had a vegetarian Modi thali, priced at Rs 2,250 plus taxes, and a non-vegetarian version priced at Rs 2,550 plus taxes. The vegetarian thali comprised favourites such as Kashmiri dum aloo, paneer lababdar, malai kofta, dal tadka and a variety of breads along with raita and beverages such as lassi. The non-vegetarian platter came with lamb and chicken dishes as well as green vegetables, paneer, rice, mixed breads, and dessert, South China Morning Post reported. The restaurant has not mentioned if there will be any changes this year, in terms of dishes and price.

This year, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced strict instructions to refrain from cake-cutting and other such rituals to mark the prime minister’s birthday. The saffron party will be organising Sewa Pakhwada (a fortnight of service) from his birthday on September 17 to Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. The party will organise various social programmes during those days, including blood donation camps, health screenings, tree plantations and campaigns for Swachh Bharat and the need of water conservation.

In an election rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur in 2014, the prime minister was quoted as saying that a “56-inch chest” was required to turn Uttar Pradesh into Gujarat.
