Ferrari unveils 12Cilindri: Successor to 812 Superfast with 819 HP priced at $423,000

Unveiling 12Cilindri: Ferrari, a brand that seamlessly blends tradition and cutting-edge technology, has unveiled its latest car, the 12Cilindri. This new model, revealed in Miami, is the successor to the 812 Superfast. The 12Cilindri’s name highlights its defining feature: the 12-cylinder engine.
Engine Evolution: The 12Cilindri’s engine, a 6.5-litre, 65-degree unitis the latest iteration of Ferrari’s F140 V-12. This engine, first seen in the Enzo two decades ago, now produces 819 naturally aspirated horsepower at 9,250 rpm and 500 pound-feet of torque at 7,250 rpm. The redline is set at a staggering 9,500 rpm.
Emission Standards: Interestingly, the 12Cilindri does not rely on hybrid assistance. Ferrari has managed to meet all relevant emission standards purely through the engine’s design and performance.
Engine Similarities: The 12Cilindri’s engine shares many features with the engine in the 812 Competizione. It has titanium connecting rods and a valvetrain that replaces the typical hydraulic lifters with a rigid system with roller finger followers. A unique feature is the “Aspirated Torque Shaping” system, which electronically modifies the torque curve in the third and fourth gears.
Gearbox and Speed: The engine is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox mounted at the rear. This gearbox promises 30% quicker shifts than the 812’s transmission. The 12Cilindri can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 2.9 seconds and reach 124 mph in less than 7.9 seconds. The Spider variant is slightly slower, with acceleration times of 2.95 seconds and 8.2 seconds, respectively. Both versions have a top speed of over 211 mph.
Design and Dimensions: The 12Cilindri is slightly larger than the 812 Superfast in most dimensions, but its wheelbase is an inch shorter. The design is reminiscent of the Roma, with more technical detailing. The black panel ahead of the hood and between the lights is a nod to the plexiglass panel found on early examples of the 365 GTB/4 Daytona.
Interior Features: Inside the 12Cilindri, you’ll find the traditional Ferrari steering wheel adorned with controls. Unlike many new models from the brand, there’s a central infotainment display. The cabin design is similar to the Purosangue, minus the rear seats.
Advanced Control Systems: The 12Cilindri is equipped with Ferrari’s latest, ultra-advanced chassis control systems, including Side Slip Control 8, which quickly estimates tyre grip levels. It also features an independent four-wheel steering system, which can steer the rear tyres in opposite directions. Wheel sizes have increased from 20 to 21 inches.
Weight and Stiffness: Ferrari only provides a dry weight for the 12Cilindri, so the exact weight is unknown. The dry weight for the coupe is 3,459 pounds and 3,571 pounds for the Spider. The 12Cilindri is 15% stiffer than the 812.
Pricing and Availability: As expected, the 12Cilindri is not cheap. The coupe costs $423,000 (€395,000), and the convertible is priced at $466,000 (€435,000). It’s assumed that the 12Cilindri is already sold out for years to come, as is often the case with Ferraris, especially V-12 Ferraris.

Summary

“Thank you for your scepticism. It only fuels the fire in our bellies. I was told the same thing when I joined the company in 1991. Global consultants advised us to exit the industry,” the Mahindra Group Chairman said.

Business tycoon Anand Mahindra thanked a person on social media for his “scepticism” after he told the Mahindra Group Chairman that his cars “can’t compete with Japanese or Americans in their land”.

This came after Mahindra introduced its much-awaited Mahindra XUV 3XO in the Indian market on Monday.

Mahindra XUV 3XO

Unveiling the first look of the compact SUV, Mahindra wrote on social media site X, “It’s here. Prices start at ₹7.49 lakh. The revolution begins. #MahindraXUV3XO”.

In the comment section, a person wrote, “Your cars can’t compete with Japanese or Americans in their land. Enjoy import substitution policies while they last. Mahindra will disappear as tariffs get reduced.”

In reply, Mahindra noted that he was told the same thing when he first joined the group in 1991. He added that the company hoped to be around for the next 100 years, noting that every day is a fight for survival.

“Thank you for your scepticism. It only fuels the fire in our bellies. I was told the same thing when I joined the company in 1991. Global consultants advised us to exit the industry,” he wrote.

“We were told the same thing when Toyota and other global giants in the UV space entered India. But we’re still around. Every day is a fight for survival. And we relish it. We hope to be around for the next 100 years, still fighting—every single day—for your approval,” the 68-year-old added.

About XUV 3XO

On Monday, Mahindra launched the XUV 3XO, which is a facelift version of the XUV 300. The price starts from ₹7.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The new model, available in five trims, boasts a significantly revamped design, a new cabin, an array of added features and an updated automatic gearbox.

The company has substantially redesigned the XUV 3XO’s exterior, which features a new gloss black grille and LED headlights reminiscent of the XUV700.

The rear has been completely revamped and now has a connected LED tail lamp and bold ‘XUV 3XO’ badging. Meanwhile, its number plate housing has been relocated to the rear bumper.

The XUV 3XO is available in the Indian market in a total of 18 variants, with the top-end model — AX7 L variant — priced at ₹15.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

Aston Martin launches upgraded Vantage in India, boasts top speed of over 325 kmph

Vantage Unveiled: Aston Martin has launched the upgraded Vantage sports car in India. Priced at 3.99 crore (ex-showroom) before options, the new Vantage has been unveiled globally earlier this year.
Exterior Upgrades: The new Vantage sports an updated look with a wider grille, a new bumper, revised headlamps, and a new bonnet. The vents behind the front wheels have been redesigned, and it features a new bumper with redesigned air vents at the back.
Wheel Details: The Vantage sits on standard 21-inch satin silver alloy wheels, adding to its sleek design.
Cabin Improvements: The cabin of the Vantage has seen significant improvements. It now houses a new 10.35-inch touchscreen infotainment system, also seen on the DB12, and all the switchgear has been revised.
Steering and Cluster: The driver gets a new digital instrument cluster and a newly designed steering wheel, enhancing the driving experience.
Engine Upgrades: Under the hood, the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine has been reworked to develop an additional 153 bhp and 115 Nm over the outgoing Vantage V8. The total power stands at 656 bhp and 800 Nm.
Performance Stats: The sports car can go from 0-100 kmph in a claimed 3.5 seconds and hit a top speed of over 325 kmph. In comparison, the outgoing Vantage V12 developed 690 bhp and 753 Nm and hit a top speed of 322 kmph.
Customisation Options: Aston Martin offers a host of customisation options for the new Vantage. These include paint finishes from its bespoke Q division, different alloy wheel designs, lightweight carbon fibre seats, and optional carbon ceramic disc brakes.
Suspension and Brakes: The upgrades to the engine are accompanied by revisions to the suspension set-up for greater agility. Stopping power comes from steel disc brakes at all four corners, with carbon ceramic brakes offered as an option.
Market Competition: The new Vantage will compete with models such as the Ferrari Roma, Porsche 911, Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, and BMW M8 in the market.

Tesla unveils 2024 Model 3 Performance: Hits top speed of 163 mph, 0-60 in 2.9 seconds

Tesla’s Reveal: Tesla has unveiled the 2024 Model 3 Performance starting at $52,990 in the US. The new model features a specially tuned chassis and can accelerate from 0–60 mph in just 2.9 seconds.
Performance Badge: Interestingly, Tesla has not given this updated Model 3 the “Plaid” performance badge. This badge has so far been reserved for its more premium vehicles, the Model S and Model X. For the Model 3, Tesla is sticking to the Performance label.
Powerful Specs: The performance trim of Tesla’s top-selling electric sedan boasts 510 horsepower and 741 Nm of torque. This is a step-up from the 470 horsepower achievable in the 2019 performance trim. The new model can also hit a top speed of 163 mph.
Acceleration Time: Tesla is subtracting rollout time when calculating the 0–60 time. This is a similar tactic the company used when it claimed that the Model S Plaid could hit 60 mph in under two seconds back in 2021.
Drive Unit Improvements: The fourth-generation version of Tesla’s performance drive unit offers improvements over the previous model. These include increases in continuous power (22%), peak power (32%), and peak torque (16%), all achieved with lower energy consumption.
Wheel and Tyre Features: The Model 3 Performance features forged and staggered 20″ wheels and Pirelli P Zero 4 tyres. Tesla promises better traction out of corners, limited traction control interventions, improved comfort, lower rolling resistance, and increased range.
Range Estimates: Tesla estimates that the new Model 3 Performance can achieve 296 miles on a full charge. This is less than the refreshed 2024 Model 3’s estimated top range of 341 miles, but it’s still an impressive figure.
Track Mode Software: Tesla is also introducing version 3 of its Track Mode software feature. This integrates motor controls, suspension controls, powertrain cooling, and the company’s Vehicle Dynamics Controller into a single, unified system.
Adaptive Damping System: The new model features an adaptive damping system that adjusts to driver and road inputs in real-time. This system is designed to improve handling and comfort, and Tesla says it will improve over time through software updates.
Aerodynamic Design: Tesla has tweaked the exterior of the EV to improve aerodynamics. The new design offers a 5% reduction in drag, a 36% lift reduction, and a 55% improvement in front-to-rear lift balance compared to the previous Model 3 Performance.

Lamborghini’s V10 era ends with 2024’s limited-edition Huracan STJ

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Only 10 units of this model will be produced, each featuring a carbon fibre identification plate displaying its build number. The Huracan STJ is powered by the same 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 as the Huracan STO.

Italian luxury sports car manufacturer Lamborghini is set to replace the V-10 engine Huracan with the 2024 Lamborghini Huracan STJ, a limited-edition variant of the Huracan STO.

Only 10 units of this model will be produced, each featuring a carbon fibre identification plate displaying its build number.

The STJ, standing for ‘Jota’, is inspired by the Huracans used in Lamborghini’s one-make series, the Super Trofeo. The ‘Jota’ refers to Appendix J of the FIA rulebook, which outlines the specifications for touring and GT cars.

The STJ, which offers exclusivity and improved performance over the STO, will come equipped with a unique aero package, including additional scoop-like wings on the bumper, a more aggressive rear wing angle for increased downforce, and adjustable race-derived shocks with special tuning.

It also features unique Bridgestone Potenza Race compounds. These modifications reportedly shave a second off the STO’s lap time at the Nardò Technical Center Handling Track.

The Huracan STJ is powered by the same 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 as the Huracan STO. This powertrain churns out 630hp of power and 565Nm torque. It is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox powering the rear wheels.

The STJ also uses special Bridgestone Potenza racing tyres installed on 20-inch single-nut rims. Moreover, a new set of race-derived, four-way adjustable shock absorbers has been fitted, which allows for increased stiffness and improved handling.

Two liveries are available for the STJ: Grigio Telesto with a Nero Noctis roof and Rosso Mars and Bianco Isi details, or Blu Eliadi with the same secondary colours. The interior is black Alcantara with red contrasting stitching.

Pricing details are yet to be announced, but with only 10 units being made, they are expected to be claimed quickly. The Huracan’s replacement is anticipated to be powered by a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V-8 with a performance-enhancing hybrid system.

2025 Toyota 4Runner debuts with hybrid power and fresh design; check price and features

New Era Begins: The 2025 Toyota 4Runner is here, marking the start of the model’s sixth generation. After a remarkable 15-year run, the fifth-generation model has passed the baton to its successor. The previous model remained popular, but the time for change had arrived with the introduction of new engines, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the TGNA-F frame and suspension architecture.
Striking Resemblance: The new 4Runner’s front-end styling bears a striking resemblance to the Tacoma, although it’s not a direct carryover. The stance is similar, with a wider track and an additional three inches of overall body width. The extra width is primarily due to prominent fender flares that extend further to cover the suspension’s wider track.
Bigger and Better: The 4Runner’s wheelbase has been extended at the front, like the Tacoma, to provide more body-mount clearance. This change allows for the fitting of larger tyres, a feature that was problematic in previous versions due to the relative lack of space. The wheelbase increase is 2.4 inches, matching the new Land Cruiser, Lexus GX550, and even the Lexus LX600.
Interior Excellence: Inside, the 4Runner shares many features with the new Tacoma, including the instrument cluster, centre stack, and various buttons, switches, and knobs. The same 14.0-inch infotainment touchscreen is available on some trims and standard on others, offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Powerful Performance: Under the bonnet, the 2025 4Runner’s base engine is the 2.4-litre i-Force, a turbocharged inline-four that delivers the same 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque as it does in the Tacoma. This engine will be the sole offering in the SR5 and TRD Sport and will be the base fitment in the TRD Off-Road and Limited.
Hybrid Option: For those seeking more power, the 2.4-litre i-Force Max 4Runner Hybrid is available. This model features an electric motor sandwiched between the 278-hp engine and eight-speed transmission, boosting total output to 326 hp and 465 pound-feet of torque.
Third-Row Seat: An optional third-row seat returns to the 4Runner lineup. Based on what we’ve seen, we believe it’ll be restricted to the standard i-Force engine. The hybrid’s battery pack resides under the rear cargo floor, which would seemingly make it impossible for that powertrain to coexist with the third-row seat.
Suspension Upgrade: The new 4Runner shares the TGNA-F architecture with the Tacoma and Land Cruiser, meaning its suspension layout utilises the same sort of control-arm suspension up front and multilink live axle arrangement in the back. The geometry has been thoroughly rethought, although the basic concept remains the same.
Off-Road Capabilities: The TRD Pro’s suspension tuning is geared more towards high-speed desert running, while the Trailhunter’s is optimised for overland-style off-road exploration and rockier trail work. The Trailhunter features additional skid plates and more robust rock sliders that are bolted directly to the frame.
Rivals: As for the rivals, the new 2025 Toyota 4Runner faces competition from other midsize SUVs like the Ford Bronco, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Hyundai Santa Fe. The 2025 4Runner goes on sale in fall 2024.
