Yet another celebrity invests in Sequoia-backed Hyugalife. This time it’s Indian cricketer and investor KL Rahul. The details of the investment have not been disclosed.

This investment comes months after Rahul’s last investment in 4CAST. In March 2023, Rahul had acquired equity in English cricketer Ben Stokes’ entrepreneurial venture 4CAST.  Seems like the cricketer, who at present is recovering from a sports injury, is in an investment spree.

Speaking about the collaboration on Hyugalife, KL Rahul stated, “As athletes, we have the opportunity to inspire others to lead healthier and more active lives. That is exactly what I aspire to do through this partnership with HyugaLife.com. I am thrilled to embark on this journey with HyugaLife and contribute to a more health-conscious India.”

The startup offers a diverse range of health and wellness products such as health supplements, health foods, supplements for hair, skin, nails, weight management, sports nutrition, and women’s health, among others. The company has partnered with over 300+ brands and has over 9,000+ products on its platform including top brands such as Fast & Up, MuscleBlaze, MyFitness Optimum Nutrition, Power Gummies, and Wellbeing Nutrition.

Hyugalife.com  is a creation of Sachin Parikh (formerly Nykaa) and co-founders Anvi Shah (formerly Unilever) and Neehar Modi (formerly Amazon). The parent firm, Pratech Brands, secured $3 million in funding from Sequoia India’s Surge.

Ishan Kishan to replace injured KL Rahul in the Indian squad for the ICC World Test Championship final

Wicketkeeper batsman Ishan Kishan has been named as the replacement for KL Rahul in the Indian squad for the ICC World Test Championship final.

Indian cricket board, the BCCI, on Monday, via its official handle, released a press statement that announced Kishan as Rahul’s replacement in the suqad. The press statement also mentioned that Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mukesh Kumar, Suryakumar Yadav are the standby players for the squad.

Rahul picked up an injury during Lucknow Super Giant’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 1. Following the injury, Rahul was ruled out of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the ICC World Test Championship final.

After the injury, Rahul took to Instagram to provide an update on his injury. In a post Rahul mentioned that he would be undergoing a surgery on his thigh shortly.

With Rahul injured, the BCCI was in search of a wicketkeeper batter, who could fill the void.

Kishan is currently busy playing IPL for Mumbai Indians and has scored 293 runs hitting two fifties along the way.

Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul will undergo thigh surgery on the advice of his medical team after he injured himself during the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore earlier this week. The wicket-keeper batsman will miss the finale of the World Test Championship (WTC) against Australia and the rest of the ongoing IPL season. The player posted this news on social media and said that he will be undergoing surgery shortly.

“Absolutely gutted that I won’t be at the Oval next month with Team India. I’ll do everything I can to get back in the blue and help my country. That has always been my focus and priority. After careful consideration and consultation with the medical team, it’s been concluded that I’ll be undergoing surgery on my thigh shortly. My focus will be on my rehabilitation and recovery in the coming weeks. It’s a tough call to make, but I know it’s the right one to ensure a full recovery,” he said in a statement he uploaded on his social media handles.

The WTC final will be played at the Oval in London from June 7, right after the IPL. Recently BCCI announced the team squad for the final test match and KL was a part of the squad.

There was a lot of discussion on picking KS Bharat as the team’s wicket-keeper than the usual choice being KL Rahul. However, now in KL’s absence, it would be a good time for Bharat to make his mark.

LSG captain KL Rahul out of IPL due to injury; Krunal Pandya to lead the team

Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul will be seated for the rest of the IPL season due to a leg injury that he developed during their game against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Ekana Stadium on Monday.

Rahul will go under scanner after the swelling subsides and that will determine his availability to be in World Test Championship final which will be played at the Oval in London from June 7-11 against Australia. His miss at the WTC will create a huge impact as India will lack an experience wicket-keeper batsman on their side.

“KL is currently with the team in Lucknow but he is leaving the camp on Thursday after watching the game against CSK on Wednesday. His scans will be done in Mumbai at the BCCI-designated medical facility. His case as well as Jaydev’s case will be handled by BCCI,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by PTI.

According to PTI reports, no scans had been performed so far. “Once the swelling goes away then only the scans can be performed. Krunal Pandya is will a replacement for the skipper’s role for LSG starting with Wednesday’s clash against Chennai Super Kings.

“When someone sustains an injury like this, there is a considerable amount of pain and swelling that is there in and around the area. The swelling takes around 24 to 48 hours to heal and only after that can you perform the scan. Since he (KL Rahul) is an important member of the Test team, it would only be prudent that he doesn’t take any further part in IPL,” the source added.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will be looking to continue their fine run in IPL 2023 when they host Punjab Kings (PBKS) at their home stadium of Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket on Saturday.

KL Rahul led LSG have won three of their first four fixtures this year. The team’s latest victory arrived when it sneaked past Royal Challengers Bangalore on the last ball to notch a thrilling 1-wicket win at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday night.

But mood in the PBKS camp will be somber after the team tasted a 6-wicket defeat at the hands of defending champions Gujarat Titans at home on Thursday.

The two results has meant that before the match gets underway LSG will remain one of the top three teams on IPL 2023 points table while PBKS will remain confined in the bottom half of the table.

LSG look to sort out top-order issues

Despite the win, LSG will have to address some issues if it looks to continue its winning run.

The most pressing concern for the team is the form of Rahul with the bat. Rahul is known for consistency in IPL but he has struggled to get going this year. The LSG captain is yet to notch a fifty this season and has been dismissed on the scores of 8, 20, 35 and 18.  The batting issue has been further compounded by the fact that the team’s other opener Kyle Mayers, have gone off the boil in the last two matches. The West Indian was bowled on a duck against RCB before losing his wicket on 13 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Mayers’ twin failures could prompt, LSG to bench him and give Quinton de Kock a chance to shine. de Kock has been confined to the benches ever since he joined the LSG late owing to his international commitments. But de Kock can be trusted upon as he was team’s second-highest run scorer behind Rahul last year.

Should LSG find a solid opening combination it could have one of the most potent batting orders in the tournament provided Marcus Stoinis and Nichollas Pooran are on song after blasting quickfire half-centuries against RCB.

Bowling wise the team looks fine as fast bowler Mark Wood and spin trio of Ravi Bishnoi, Amit Mishra and Krunal Pandya have been all amongst wickets. If there is one bowler who needs to pull up his socks is Indian pacer Avesh Khan.

PBKS too look to resolve top-order woes

Like LSG, PBKS too have issues at the top of their batting order. Captain Shikhar Dhawan is single-handedly doing the bulk of the scoring for the team and is failing to get support from the other end.

Dhawan is leading the IPL 2023 run-scoring charts and has scored two fifties with a high score of 99*. His 233 runs this year are nearly three times more than team’s second-highest run scorer Prabhsimran Singh who has accumulated only 83 runs. Dhawan cannot rescue his team every time and more is expected from Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Jitesh Sharma and Shahrukh Khan.

The bowlers also need to step up as Arshdeep Singh and Nathan Ellis are the team’s top-two leading wicket takers with 7 wickets and 5 wickets to their names respectively. The bowling should gradually pick steam as South African speedster Kagiso Rabada has played only one match this season.

The team would hope that English all-rounder Liam Livingstone is fit enough to merit selection in the playing XI for the match against LSG. Livingstone joined PBKS squad late as he got fitness clearance from the ECB late. Livingstone is making a comeback after a long-term injury. But should the all-rounder be fit he will fortify the team. Last season Livingstone scored 470 runs and was team’s second-highest run scorer. The Englishman backed 470 runs with 6 wickets.

Sam Curran, IPL’s most-expensive player, also need to up his game. The all-rounder has picked only 2 wickets and scored a total of 71 runs from 4 outings.

With a strike rate of 220.31 Pooran finds himself second in the list, behind Shardul Thakur,  of the batsmen with the best strike rates. Expect more entertaining cameos from the West Indian as the season unfolds.

Shikhar Dhawan (PBKS)

Punjab Kings will again rely on the consistency of their skipper Shikhar Dhawan. As a batsmat, Dhawan has hit two fifties including an unbeaten 99* against Sunrisers Hyderabad that helped the team recover from a sorry looking 88/9 to eventually end up with a modest 143/9. With other batters yet to get into groove, the onus is on Dhawan to help the team towards big scores.

Pitch

The average first innings total from the two IPL matches played at the stadium has been 157. The pitches in Lucknow are not that easy to bat on.

West Indian opener Kyle Mayers scored 73 off 38 deliveries as he steered the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to a flying start in their first game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season against the Delhi Capitals (DC).

The southpaw hit seven sixes and struck two boundaries as he made up for skipper KL Rahul’s early dismissal by taking the Capitals’ bowlers to the cleaners at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

Interestingly, Mayers had a rather quiet powerplay as Lucknow was struck at 30/1 at the end of six overs with the 30-year-old scoring only 17 off 17 deliveries until that point in time. However, he accelerated straight from the seventh over onwards and hit multiple maximums off Mukesh Kumar, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav.

Patel eventually got the better of him by bowling him over in the 12^th over but Lucknow had already gotten to 100 till then with Mayers scoring the bulk of those runs.

Lucknow will now face the uphill task of accommodating Mayers in the XI when South African opener Quinton de Kock joins the squad after rounding off his international commitments. The 30-year-old finished at the third spot in the run-scoring charts last year.

He finished the season at 508 runs in 15 matches and will be a definite starter in the XI to partner Rahul at the top. Marcus Stoinis, Nicholas Pooran, and Mark Wood will most likely occupy the other three overseas spots and that doesn’t leave a space for Mayers on the side. Regardless, the Caribbean star has made a strong case for his inclusion in the team in case the think-tank looks to shake things up at any point in this campaign.

BCCI announces annual player contracts for 2022-23 for men: Jadeja promoted to A plus; KL Rahul demoted

Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was rewarded with the elite grade A plus retainership, while Axar Patel got promoted to A category as the BCCI announced the annual contracts on Sunday.

The 34-year-old Jadeja, who was joint Player of the Series in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, was one of the four players to be placed in the A plus category, along with skipper Rohit Sharma, former captain Virat Kohli and injured pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

Top-order batter KL Rahul got demoted to Grade B after a string of poor performances.

Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma didn’t get a contract as BCCI handed retainership to 26 cricketers in four groups of A plus (Rs 7 crore), A (Rs 5 crore), B (Rs 3 crore) and C (Rs 1 crore).

It seems curtains for the veteran trio, who have been dropped from the contract list, signalling that they are no longer in the reckoning for the national team.

Spin all-rounder Axar had plenty to be happy about as he was promoted to A category, while wicketkeeper batter KS Bharat also landed a maiden central contract after being included in Group C.

Star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who is recovering after undergoing treatment for his injuries following a horror crash in December last year, remains in A category, which also includes Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Shami.

There were six cricketers in Group B, including Cheteshwar Pujara, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, Suryakumar yadav and Shubman Gill.

The Group C comprises 11 cricketers — Umesh yadav, Shikhar Dhawan, Shardul Thakur, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Hooda, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, besides Bharat.

The elite A plus category has players who are a sure shot candidate for all three formats, while ‘A’ comprises cricketers who are certainties for Tests and one-dayers. Players who are considered for limited-over cricket are in Group B, while C group players are generally considered for one of the three formats regularly.

Former India coach Ravi Shastri has backed KL Rahul to seal his place as a wicketkeeper-batter for the World Test Championship final at The Oval in June, saying his presence will strengthen the team’s batting lineup.

Rahul has a good record in England but he was dropped from the playing XI after the first two Tests against Australia at home due to poor form.

The 30-year-old from Karnataka, however, made an impressive return, slamming a match-winning 75 not out in the first ODI against Australia in Mumbai on Friday night.

Shastri feels Rahul can play as a wicket-keeper in the WTC final, especially after KS Bharat couldn’t produce the goods in the absence of an indisposed Rishabh Pant.

“He (KL) has really done well to keep the selectors interested ahead of the WTC final,” Shastri told Star Sports.

“Rahul can bat in the middle-order — No. 5 or 6. In England, you have to generally keep wickets from far behind. You don’t have to keep up to the spinners a lot. He (KL) has two more ODIs to go before the IPL. He can cement his place in that Indian team.” Rahul has amassed 614 runs at 34.11 with two centuries — one at The Oval –, and one fifty in nine Tests in English conditions.

India qualified for the WTC final to be held in June at The Oval against Australia. It will be India’s second appearance in the final. They had lost to New Zealand in the 2021 final.

Rohit and Gill batted in adjacent nets in the optional practice on Tuesday while Rahul chose to stay back in the hotel with the majority of the squad.

Both Gill and Rahul had batted simultaneously during the training session on Monday.

Rahul averages an underwhelming 33.4 after 47 Tests while Gill has been waiting patiently for his opportunity in red-ball cricket after a sensational season in limited overs cricket.

Rahul, who has failed to cross the 25-run mark in his last 10 Test innings, was removed as vice-captain following the second Test in Delhi, raising hopes of a change for the remaining two games.

Rohit kept the suspense going till the very end.

“I spoke about it after the last game as well. Players who are going through a tough time, given their potential they will be given enough time to prove themselves,” Rohit said in a media interaction. “Being vice-captain or otherwise doesn’t tell you anything. At that point in time he was the vice captain. His removal as vice-captain doesn’t indicate anything.” When asked the preparation of both Gill and Rahul, the skipper added: “As far as Gill and KL Rahul are concerned, that is how they train before any game. Today was optional training session for the entire group. Whoever wanted to come they came.

“As far as 11 is concerned, I would like to do it at the toss. I prefer it that way considering last-minute injuries are a possibility.” India lead the four-match series 2-0 and a win here will guarantee them a place in the World Test Championship final in June.
