Special judge for CBI and ED Kaveri Baweja also fixed May 30 for further arguments on framing of charges in the case.

A Delhi court on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of AAP leader and former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia till May 30 in a corruption case related to an alleged excise scam.

Special judge for CBI and ED Kaveri Baweja also fixed May 30 for further arguments on framing of charges in the case.

The judge noted that an application for postponement of arguments on the charge is pending before the high court. Sisodia and other accused persons in custody were produced before the court through video-conferencing from prison.

The court had on April 30 dismissed the bail pleas of Sisodia in corruption and money laundering cases, lodged by the CBI and the ED in relation to the alleged scam. The court had reserved the order after hearing arguments from the CBI and ED as well as the counsel appearing for Sisodia.

Swati Maliwal’s ex-husband claims danger to her life after AAP admits assault, says Sanjay Singh is ‘acting’

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will take action against his close aide Bibhav Kumar, senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh said on Tuesday.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal’s former husband, Naveen Jaihind, has claimed threat to her life hours after her party admitted to assault on the former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Personal Secretary Bibhav Kumar. Jaihind, in a video message on social media platform Facebook, alleged “anything could happen” to her.

Maliwal’s ex-husband first clarified that he got divorced four years ago and was no longer in regular touch with Maliwal. He went on to say that whatever happened to Maliwal was part of a bigger conspiracy and there was danger to her life. “Ye sab puri jankari aur sajish ke sath ho raha hai, uske sath kuch bhi ho sakta hai (there’s a conspiracy going on against her and anything can happen to her),” Jaihind said.

“Why are you acting MP Sanjay Singh? You know the whole incident, right? You already knew what was going to happen. The attack was a conspiracy. Swati’s life is in danger. You know that right? Now you are trying to intimidate her into silence,” the Facebook post’s caption read.

He said, “Kejriwal’s close aide attacked Maliwal at someone’s behest,” adding that AAP MP Sanjay Singh was conspiring against Maliwal and he had no sympathy for her.

He said, “Sanjay Singh ko acting bandh karni chahiye.”

He also urged Maliwal to speak up against the atrocities she was facing without being afraid of anyone.

After Maliwal alleged assault by Kejriwal’s close aide on May 13, Singh admitted that Bibhav Kumar assaulted and misbehaved with the former DCW chief at Kejriwal’s civil lines residence in the national capital and assured that strict action will be taken against Kumar.

“Yesterday an incident took place. At the residence of Arvind Kejriwal, an incident of misbehaviour took place with Swati Maliwal by Bibhav Kumar. Swati Maliwal has informed about this incident to the Delhi Police. This is a condemnable incident. Arvind Kejriwal has taken cognizance of the incident and has directed for strict action in the incident,” Singh said in an official statement.

Swati Maliwal alleges assault by Kejriwal’s aide

Maliwal on Monday alleged that Bibhav Kumar from Kejriwal’s personal staff attacked and assaulted her while she was at the CM’s residence. Following this, she made two PCR calls to Delhi Police and later went to the Civil Lines Police Station.

“We received a PCR call at 9:34 am wherein the caller said that she has been assaulted inside the CM residence. Accordingly, local police & SHO responded to the call. After some time, MP Swati Maliwal came to the police station civil lines. No complaint was given by her. In this matter, no complaint has been received till now,” said DCP (North) Manoj Meena.

Who is Bibhav Kumar?

Bibhav Kumar recently made headlines in April after the Delhi vigilance department sacked him from the position of Kejriwal’s personal secretary citing “illegal appointment”.

He was sacked in connection to a 2007 case against him for “assault and use of criminal force to obstruct a public servant from doing his duty”. In February, meanwhile, he was also summoned by the ED in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.

8 Delhi hospitals, Indira Gandhi International Airport receive bomb threats

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

The bomb threats were reported from Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal-3, Burari Hospital, Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Bara Hindu Rao Hospital, Janakpuri Super Speciality Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay, Dabri’s Dada Dev Hospital and Aruna Asaf Ali Government Hospital in Civil Lines

Delhi Fire Services on Sunday said eight city hospitals and IGI Airport received bomb threats through emails, 11 days after over 150 schools in Delhi-NCR received a bomb scare of unprecedented scale.

The bomb threats were reported from Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal-3, Burari Hospital, Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Bara Hindu Rao Hospital, Janakpuri Super Speciality Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay, Dabri’s Dada Dev Hospital and Aruna Asaf Ali Government Hospital in Civil Lines, a senior DFS official said.

According to the police sources, the airport authorities received a threat email at 6 pm. Security has been beefed up in all the hospitals in the city and additional police force deployment was made at the airport, however, nothing suspicious has been recovered from any of the locations so far.

After a call regarding the threat from Burari Hospital at 3 pm, local police, bomb squad, dog squad were rushed to the spot, Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) M K Meena said. “Teams are checking the hospital. Nothing suspicious has been found yet.” In a statement, an official at the Burari Hospital said, “At around 3 pm, we received an email regarding a bomb in the hospital. After this, all the safety measures had been thoroughly checked and everything was stable. This was the first time we received such an email.”

Sanjay Gandhi Hospital also received a threat email around 3 pm, according to officials. “Soon after the call, we immediately pressed two fire engines at both the locations. Teams have been sent at all the locations from where we are getting calls. The search operation is going on,” a DFS official said.

On May 1, over 150 schools in Delhi-NCR received an identical threat email claiming that explosives had been planted on their premises, triggering massive evacuations and searches.

The authorities later declared it a hoax. The Delhi Police’s anti-terror unit special cell traced the domain of emails to Russia and it is suspected to have been formed with the help of the dark web — an encrypted online content that allows individuals to hide their identity and location from others.

Summary

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, the AAP leader said people will have to choose between “Modi ki Guarantee” and “Kejriwal ki guarantee”. The latter is a “brand”, Kejriwal said.

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal introduced “Kejriwal ki Guarantee” on Sunday. This initiative promises to prioritise 10 tasks, including reclaiming Indian territory from Chinese control if the INDIA bloc gains power nationally.

The bloc, comprising political parties like AAP, Congress, Trinamool Congress, among others, aiming to challenge the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Kejriwal, fresh out of jail on interim bail, asserted that the INDIA bloc, including AAP, will lead the next government.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, the AAP leader said people will have to choose between “Modi ki Guarantee” and “Kejriwal ki guarantee”. The latter is a “brand”, Kejriwal added.

Here are the 10 guarantees that Kejriwal is promising as part of his campaign:

24×7 Free Electricity: Ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply nationwide, with a focus on providing free electricity to economically disadvantaged households, drawing from successful models implemented in Delhi and Punjab.

Quality Education for All: Overhauling government schools across the country to provide high-quality education surpassing private institutions, with a commitment to invest ₹5 lakh crores jointly with state governments to uplift educational standards.

Universal Healthcare: Establishing Mohalla Clinics in every village and neighbourhood, transforming district hospitals into world-class facilities, and providing free healthcare to all citizens, eliminating the need for insurance-based schemes.

National Security First: Prioritising the defence of India’s territorial integrity, pledging to reclaim disputed territories from China through diplomatic efforts and granting the military full freedom to safeguard national interests.
