Amazon India suffered a data breach on Tuesday that caused business reports of vendors to be disclosed on its website.

Some sellers on Amazon India said they received incorrect data while downloading merchant tax reports this month from Amazon’s portal, which also contained business data of other sellers on the platform.

These sellers now fear that their own business data on the platform may have been exposed to other merchants as well.

The merchant tax reports mainly comprise data of all orders processed by the seller on the platform, category-wise volume, as well as inventory. Many sellers usually download the sales reports from the e-commerce portal between 8th-10th of every month to file their GST Returns.

The online retail giant has over 4 lakh sellers across the country selling on the platform. The scale of the data breach impact was not immediately clear though.

Amazon acknowledged the issue and said a technical glitch affected vendors. The company said the issue was resolved within a few hours on Tuesday and that sellers were now able to download the correct reports.

The Seattle, US-based company has faced a few data breaches in recent months globally.

Amazon last month reportedly investigated allegations that some employees in India and the US were sharing internal company data with some merchants.

The company was also hit by a technical glitch globally in November that disclosed customer names and email IDs on its website. It is believed to have also impacted its India operations, where Amazon has 150 million customers registered.
