After TMC’s massive win in West Bengal elections, Prashant Kishor ‘quitting this space’

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Mincing no words, Kishor hit out at the Election Commission saying it has been working as an extension of Bharatiya Janata Party.

Political strategist Prashant Kishor on Sunday said that he is “quitting this space” and he will not strategise for parties anymore. The remarks came even as the results are trickling in for West Bengal polls and Trinamool Congress is clear of a hat-trick. He is the man behind the TMC’s spectacular win in the state.

“I have been thinking of quitting for too long and was looking for an opportunity, Bengal gave me that chance,” he said in an interview with CNN-News18.

On TMC’s win, Kishor said that people wanted to get Mamata Banerjee one more and it would be very difficult to tell “why we have won so big”.

The Bharatiya Janata Party campaign was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the state witnessed Union Ministers campaigning in the state for months. But that could not change the party’s fortune either. “Just because central ministers come and campaign does not guarantee a win. They had huge resources, but that is not enough to win elections,” he said.

He added that the BJP’s narrative was the same as it was in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and there was nothing positive in it. “The insider-outsider debate is not a factor. You need to have many things to go right for you to win a state as big as West Bengal. The fight was between Didi (Mamata) and Modi. It is difficult to say which of our moves paid off the best, but we wanted to convey to the people that they should vote for Bengal’s daughter,” he said.

Mincing no words, Kishor hit out at the Election Commission saying it has been working as an extension of Bharatiya Janata Party.

“I have never seen a more partial Election Commission. It did everything to help BJP. From allowing the use of religion by BJP to scheduling poll and bending rules, the EC did everything to aid the saffron party,” Kishor said.

Also, his prediction for the BJP turned out to be true in this election.

“For all the hype AMPLIFIED by a section of supportive media, in reality BJP will struggle to CROSS DOUBLE DIGITS in West Bengal. PS: Please save this tweet and if BJP does any better I must quit this space!” Kishor has tweeted on December 21, 2020

Prashant had earlier worked with the BJP in 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in 2016 state polls, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh in 2017 state polls, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy in 2019 state polls, and Shiv Sena in 2019 state polls.

Assembly Elections 2021: Mamata behind TMC’s astounding performance, BJP will have to introspect, says Vijayvargiya

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

The ruling TMC looks set to retain power in West Bengal with its candidates leading in 201 of the state’s 292 constituencies that went to polls against BJP’s 82, according to the trends available for 287 seats on the Election Commission website at 3 pm.

BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya on Sunday credited Mamata Banerjee for the TMC’s astounding performance in the Bengal elections and said his party would introspect the poll results. Earlier in the day, he had claimed that initial trends were not the real indicators of the final outcome, and exuded confidence that his party will win the elections.

Vijayvargiya, who is also the BJP’s Bengal minder, also said that he has received a call from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who enquired about the party’s poor show. The senior BJP leader stated that he was shocked to see BJP MPs Babul Supriyo and Locket Chatterjee trailing.

”The TMC won because of Mamata Banerjee. It seems people have chosen Didi. We will introspect what went wrong, whether it was organisational issues, lack of face, insider-outsider debate. We will see what went wrong,” he said.

Prashant Kishor trends as BJP faces defeat in West Bengal Assembly elections 2021

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Poll strategist Prashant Kishor was trolled when he predicted a humiliating defeat for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assembly elections in West Bengal in 2021.He claimed that BJP would struggle to even cross double digits in the election.

Poll strategist Prashant Kishor was trolled when he predicted a humiliating defeat for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal Assembly elections 2021.

In December 2020, he had claimed that BJP would struggle to even cross double digits in the election.

“For all the hype AMPLIFIED by a section of supportive media, in reality BJP will struggle to CROSS DOUBLE DIGITS in West Bengal,” he tweeted.

In February, he again exuded confidence that TMC will return to power.

“The people of the state want its daughter back and the public could hold him to this tweet on May 2, the day the results of the elections will be declared. “One of the key battles FOR DEMOCRACY in India will be fought in West Bengal, and the people of Bengal are ready with their MESSAGE and determined to show the RIGHT CARD – #BanglaNijerMeyekeiChay (Bengal Only Wants its Daughter) PS: On 2nd May, hold me to my last tweet,” he tweeted.

His prediction has come true with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) sweeping the elections. However, despite the massive anticipated victory of the TMC, Kishor announced on Sunday that he will quit strategising for political parties. “I am quitting this space,” he told TV channels.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee had roped in Kishor last year for her image makeover and prepare a battlefield for Assembly elections.

Mamata is indeed a popular and powerful leader who has always taken on the BJP head-on. Kishor devised several campaigns to help Didi regain a direct connect with the people of the state.

Kishor is known as much for his canny political understanding, as he is for working with whichever party wants to seek his services.

After working on Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP’s successful 2014 Lok Sabha campaign, he had worked for Nitish Kumar in 2015 Bihar Assembly elections, Amarinder Singh in 2017 Punjab Assembly elections and Jagan Mohan Reddy in 2019.
