Asian rivals India and Pakistan will lock horns on June 9 during next month’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The high-profile match will be hosted at New York’s Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. India and Pakistan are pooled together in group A along with Ireland, Canada and co-hosts USA.

The June 9 fixture will be the eighth occasion when the two teams will be locking horns at the ICC T20 World Cup. India have won 5 of the 7 matches played between the two sides so far. Pakistan’s only victory against India in the tournament came during the 2021 T20 World Cup.

India will be led by Rohit Sharma while Babar Azam will be the captain of the Pakistani side.

The last time India and Pakistan faced off at the ICC T20 World Cup was at the Melbourne Cricket Ground during the 2022 edition of the tournament. Batting first Pakistan scored 159/8. India chased down the target thanks to an unbeaten 82 by Virat Kohli.

Despite suffering a loss against India in the group stages, the Babar Azam-led side qualified for the final. In the final they were beaten by Jos Buttler’s England.

India and Pakistan were the winners of the first two editions of the ICC T20 World Cup which were previously known as ICC World T20. While India defeated Pakistan in the final of the 2007 ICC World T20, two years later Pakistan beat Sri Lanka to clinch their first ICC World T20 crown.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be streamed for free on mobile phones in India on the Disney+ Hotstar app. The first match of the T20 World Cup will take place between the US and Canada on June 2, 2024, at 6 am IST. The ninth edition will be played in the West Indies and US. The event will feature 20 teams competing across 55 games for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

The win also lifted RCB to seventh place on the table with eight points from 11 matches, and kept their mathematical chances of making it to the playoffs alive. Du Plessis and Kohli dealt in boundaries as the home side racked in 92 runs in Power Play, that contained 10 fours and seven maximums.

RCB entered a phase of struggle from there as they lost last match centurion Will Jacks, Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green between the sixth and 10th overs for just 20 runs. Little (4/45) and spinner Noor Ahmad (2/23) were the chief perpetrators as RCB slipped from 92 for 1 to 112 for five.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have been dealt with losses in seven out of the eight matches that they have played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. They will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 25, Thursday.

Can RCB qualify for the top-four? 

If RCB win all their remaining matches, they will get to 14 points at the end of as many games. They will have a possibility of barging into the playoffs if other results fall in place for them.

RCB will benefit from the current top-three teams getting as many wins as possible, intensifying the clash for the fourth place. In such a scenario, the equation might not necessarily boil down to the net run rate (NRR) scenario.

RCB have a very outside possibility of finishing third, but that will require the duo of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and SRH to undergo a sudden slump in form, making them lose nearly six out of their next seven matches so that they don’t go beyond 12 points. This will mean that RCB, with 14 points, could still jump to the third place in the table.

However, if RCB lose against SRH on Thursday, they can only get to a maximum of 12 points at the end of the league stages. Statistically, as many as eight teams can to that stage at the finishing point, thus throwing the playing field wide open, bringing it all down to the NRR situation.

A video has gone viral of Virat Kohli and Rinku Singh in which the young KKR player shares a fun banter with the India star batter, Virat Kohli. During the practice session of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Virat Kohli was seen talking to Rinku Singh, where the latter talked about how he broke a bat given by Kohli.

The video is shared by KKR on their social media account, X. In the video, Rinku says how during a spinner’s delivery he broke the bat from the middle.

“Ek match pehle le gaya tu bat. 2 match mein tujhe 2 bat dhu? Teri Vajah se na jo meri baadmein haalat hoti heina (You took a bat from me previously. Now you want second bat in second game? Because of you, I face consequences later.)”, said Virat.

To which Rinku responded by saying, “Aap ki kasam kha raha hu fir nahi todunga kabhi bat toot ke rakhi hai aapko dikatha hu (I swear on you, won’t break the bat again. I can show you the broken bat.)”
