RG Chandramogan, Chairman of Hatsun Agro that owns the Arun Icecreams brand is targeting 15% volume growth and around 150 basis points improvement in margin in the next financial year.

The ice cream industry in India is gearing up for a surge in sales as the leading weather forecast agencies predict an early onset of summer with above-normal temperatures this year.

RG Chandramogan, Chairman of Hatsun Agro Product says it’s not just ice cream but also the curd division that is expected to do better this summer.

Hatsun Agro Product (HAP), a private sector dairy company based in Tamil Nadu, Chennai, owns the Arun Icecreams brand.

Traditionally, the ice cream season gains momentum around the festival of Holi.

However, this year, the onset of warmer weather in early March has led to an earlier uptick in ice cream consumption.

Chandramogan expects volume growth of around 15% in the next financial year with margin expansion of around 150 basis points from the current 11.5%.

The higher capacity utilisation and stability in input prices will help.

He said the plan is to decrease debt to between 1,200-1,300 crore by the end of June and further down to under 500 crore by June next year.

Talking about the increasing competition, he said, “We compete in different products like milk, ice cream and curd. We have our profile and technology we have made good investments in ice cream and the type of products we make is very unique in the market and that is giving us an advantage.”

Summary

In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Sandeep Jain, Executive Director of Monte Carlo Fashions spoke about the brand’s approach to the upcoming summer season, its expansion aspirations, and its strategies for maintaining competitiveness.

As the summer season approaches, Monte Carlo Fashions is gearing up for strong bookings. The anticipation of robust demand suggests that the brand has effectively tapped into consumer preferences and market trends. Monte Carlo’s ability to forecast and cater to seasonal demands positions it well for capitalizing on the upcoming season, which is traditionally marked by increased consumer spending.

In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Sandeep Jain, Executive Director of Monte Carlo Fashions spoke about the brand’s approach to the upcoming summer season, its expansion aspirations, and its strategies for maintaining competitiveness.

He said, “As inventory is very low in our retail stores as well as our warehouse, we look forward to a very strong booking in the coming summer season.”

Talking further about expansion, Jain said that Monte Carlo Fashions has ambitious plans for expansion. He revealed that the company aims to open 50-55 new stores during the fiscal year 2024 (FY24).

“For FY24 we had given a guidance of 50-55 and in Q1 we already opened 11 stores. So, we are on track to open 55 stores in this financial year,” he said.

Jain also spoke about the brand’s pricing strategy. He said that the discounts in quarter two (Q2 of FY24) are expected to be comparatively lower than those in Q1. This reflects Monte Carlo’s strategic balance between attracting customers through discounts while also maintaining healthy profit margins.

He said, “We will look at names like Voltas and Blue Star, maybe Blue Star more than Voltas. I think the return ratios are also picking up dramatically for Blue Star and I do not think the valuations are demanding at all. So, I would look at those two. I would probably avoid the Whirlpools in the IFBs.”

Picking beverage stocks

When it comes to the beverage industry, Arora recommends investing in United Spirits over United Breweries. According to Arora, United Breweries will take some time to recover, given the impact of the pandemic on the hospitality sector. In contrast, United Spirits have a diversified product portfolio and a strong presence in the premium segment. With the gradual reopening of the economy, Arora expects United Spirits to perform well in the coming months.

Hotel industry outlook

Arora also shared his thoughts on the hotel industry. He does not think that hotels have much room to increase room rates, given the tough economic environment. Instead, Arora suggests investing in quick-service restaurants (QSRs) over hotels. With the rise of online food delivery platforms, QSRs have seen a surge in demand, making them a more attractive investment option.

Summer tips: 10 ways to stay hydrated as the mercury rises

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

The intense summer heat can cause dehydration, which can lead to electrolyte loss, leaving you feeling lethargic, nauseous, exhausted, and even prone to diarrhoea. Follow the 10 golden rules to stay cool and hydrated.

The human body is about 60 percent water and maintaining the right balance of water and electrolytes (such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium) is necessary for various bodily systems to function properly. In the summer heat, the body loses not just water but vital trace minerals as well in the form of sweat. The hot weather can cause dehydration, which can lead to electrolyte loss, leaving you feeling lethargic, nauseous, exhausted, and even cause diarrhoea.

Also read: Heatwaves at Earth’s poles: Record temperatures 30-40 degrees Celsius above normal worrying

Here’s how to avoid those conditions by staying hydrated:

  1. Eat more ‘water-rich’  fruits and vegetables like watermelon, strawberries, cucumber, lettuce tomatoes, carrots, kiwi, pineapple, broccoli, etc.
  2. Pick coconut water over fruit juice. Coconut water is a good source of electrolytes and one of the best sources of potassium. Plus, it comes with no added sugar or preservatives.
  3. Drink cooling herbal teas. Herbal teas are great for staying hydrated without getting bored. Go for non-caffeine herbal teas for the best hydrating benefits.
  4. Avoid alcohol. Alcohol can decrease the production of anti-diuretic hormone and make the body lose the ability to reabsorb water.
  5. Avoid packaged foods, sugary drinks, coffee or caffeinated drinks, processed meats, bread, canned foods and condiments such as soy sauce as they are usually high in sodium and can disrupt the electrolyte balance of the body.
  6. Eat overnight soaked oats or oatmeal for breakfast.
  7. Use a mobile app to keep track of hydration. There are plenty of trusted apps on the Play Store and App Store that can help you stay on top of your hydration needs.
  8. Drink water first thing in the morning. Six to eight hours of healthy sleep is required but that’s quite a long period to go without water consumption. Therefore, drinking about 1-2 glasses of water first thing in the morning helps the body rehydrate.
  9. Stay inside when it gets too hot outside. Wear light, loose-fitting clothing to allow your skin to breathe and carry an umbrella in case you must go out.
  10. Be aware of the signs of dehydration such as darker-than-usual urine, muscle cramps, bad breath, fatigue, sweet cravings, dry mouth/skin, raised heartbeat, drowsiness etc. Rehydrate immediately if the symptoms are intense. Seek medical care if you have severe symptoms.
