Ram Navami 2024: Indian Railways to run special trains from Lucknow to Ayodhya

Ahead of the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami, the Indian Railways has decided to run special trains from Lucknow to Ayodhya, with a large number of devotees likely to visit the Ram Mandir.

This will be the first Ram Navami after the ‘pran-pratishtha’ or the consecration ceremony at the Ram Mandir in the holy city of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.

Ever since the grand opening of the temple earlier this year, Ayodhya has been witnessing huge gatherings daily.

Chaitra Navratri, which is also known as Vasanta Navratri, will start on April 9 and conclude on April 17 — Ram Navami.

With the footfall expected to increase in the coming days, the Railways has decided to increase the frequency of trains to Ayodhya. Moreover, preparations are underway to run trains at the speed of 130 kmph on the Ayodhya route. With this, the travel time will be reduced by at least 30 minutes.

Besides Ayodhya, the number of people going towards Varanasi has also increased due to the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor. As a result, the Railways has decided to run special trains on the Lucknow to Ayodhya route as well, informed Sachinder Mohan Sharma, DRM, Northern Railway, Lucknow division.

Sharma said that the Railways is making arrangements for the safe journey of at least 35,000 people for Ram Navami. Efforts are also being made to run back-to-back trains.

He stated that whether it is Ayodhya or Varanasi, the number of pilgrims visiting both religious cities has been increasing for some time now. Due to this reason, Northern Railway is making arrangements for more trains towards these two cities.

Meanwhile, the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust is preparing for the forthcoming Ram Navami celebrations on April 17.

In a meeting held recently, the trust decided that Prasad Bharati would put up about 100 LED screens or LED walls at various locations across the area under Ayodhya Municipal Corporation limits along with the neighbouring markets to display the celebrations in Ayodhya live.

Also, a decision was made to start seven rows for ‘darshan’ to accommodate more visitors.

Trust secretary Champat Rai said the trust is also considering increasing the darshan timings from 14 to 20 hours to allow more visitors on Ram Navami.

Diwali festivities and Chhath Puja are around the corner and the demand for train tickets has gone up in the last few days. To ease the festive rush, Indian Railways is going to run special trains to different cities in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Earlier in October, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishanaw said that 283 special trains will be operated by Indian Railways across the country during the festive season.

The majority of these trains will operate from Delhi, Mumbai and Pune to different cities in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to accommodate more passengers amid the rush for Diwali and Chhath Puja.

While sharing the details, Northern Railway wrote on X, “In order to clear extra rush of passengers, Railways have decided to run the following additional Festival Special Express Trains.”

According to Northern Railway, a special train from New Delhi to Gorakhpur Jn (05065-05066) will be running from Gorakhpur on November 8 and 15 (Wednesday) and from New Delhi on November 9 and 16 (Thursday).

Another special train will be running from Delhi Jn-Darbhanga Jn-Delhi Jn (05527-0552). From Darbhanga Jn, the train will be running from November 23 to December 7 (every Thursday) and from Delhi Jn, it will run from November 24 to December 8 (every Friday).

Apart from the Northern Railway, East Central Railway and Central Railway will be running festive special trains to UP and Bihar. Here is a list of all the Diwali and Chhath Puja Special trains announced for UP and Bihar by different divisions of Indian Railways.

Northern Railway

1. Gorakhpur Jn. – New Delhi- Gorakhpur Jn. (05065-05066) on every Wednesday and Thursday, having 4 total trips starting from November 8 to 16.
2. Gorakhpur Jn. – New Delhi- Gorakhpur Jn. (05069- 05070) on every Tuesday and Wednesday, having 4 total trips starting from November 14 to 22.
3. Ara Jn- Anand Vihar Terminal- Ara Jn (03227- 03228) has 14 total trips starting from November 13 to December 3.
4. Chhapra Jn- New Delhi- Chhapra Jn (05159-05160) every Saturday and Monday, starting from November 11 to 20.
5. New Delhi- Bapudham Motihari- New Delhi (04018-04017) has a total of 8 trips on the route starting from November 18 to 28.

IRCTC to run 283 special trains for Chhat Puja 2023

Indian Railways will run 283 special trains on account of the upcoming Chhath Puja Festival. The services have been strategically designed to connect major destinations across the country. In fact, in 2022, Indian Railways ran 216 special trains for the same reason. 

Some of the routes the special trains will follow include Delhi-Patna, Delhi-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Danapur-Saharsa, Danapur-Bengaluru, Ambala-Saharsa, Muzaffarpur-Yesvantpur, Puri-Patna, Okha-Naharlagun, Sealdah-New Jalpaiguri, Kochuveli-Bengaluru, Benaras- Mumbai, and Howrah-Raxaul.

Indian Railways has also implemented crowd-control measures such as forming queues at terminal stations under the supervision of Railway Protection Force (RPF) staff, stationing additional RFP personnel at major stations, and deploying offers on emergency duty at key stations.

Frequent and timely announcements of train arrivals and departures will also be made at railway stations along with vital platform information. Passengers will also gain access to ‘May I Help You’ booths at key stations and can request support from RPF personnel and Train Ticket Examiners (TTEs).

Major stations have medical teams and ambulances with paramedical teams on standby. Instructions for maintaining cleanliness in waiting halls, retiring rooms, platforms, and stations have been issued by Zonal Headquarters.

Additionally, the Security and Vigilance Department will closely monitor and prevent any malpractice.

Indian Railways to operate 156 Ganpati Festival Special Trains: Check routes, timings and other details

The Indian Railway is going to launch 156 Ganpati Festival Special trains in view of the rush during the Ganpati festival in September. The special trains will run during the heavy festival period and the bookings will open from June 27 as per a statement released by the Central Railway, ANI reported.

The special trains will run between the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai, Sawantwadi Road/Ratnagiri/Pune/Karmali/Kudal, and Panvel, while six trains will run between Karmali and Panvel.

They will cater to the heavy rush of passengers in September and October in view of the Ganpati festival this year.

The bookings for the special trains will open from June 27 and the trains will operate from September to October.

Here are the complete details of the Ganpati Special Trains:

Mumbai-Sawantwadi Road Daily Special (train number 01171)

The train will leave CSMT Mumbai at 00.20 hrs daily from September 13 to October 2 and it will arrive at Sawantwadi Road at 14.20 hrs on the same day.

The returning train, Sawantwadi Road- Mumbai Daily Special (Train number 01172) will leave Sawantwadi Road at 15.10 hrs daily from September 13 to October 2.

The train will halt at Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Mangaon, Chiplun,  Veer, Khed, Aravali Road, Sawarda, Ratnagiri, Adavali, Vilavade, Rajapur Road, Nandgaon Road, Sangameshwar Road,  Vaibhavwadi Road, Kankavali, Sindhudurg and Kudal stations.

It will arrive at CSMT Mumbai, at 04.35 hrs the next day.

KUDAL- LTT Special (Train number 01167)

The train will leave LTT at 22.15 hrs and will arrive at Kudal at 9.30 hrs the next day. It will operate on September 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 and October 1 and 2.

The returning train, KUDAL- LTT special (Train number 01168) will leave Kudal at 10.30 hrs and arrive at LTT at 21.55 hrs the same day. It will operate on September 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and on October 2 and 3.

The train will stop at Thane, Panvel, Roha. Mangaon, Khed, Chiplun, Sawarda, Vaibhavwadi Road, Sangameshwar Road, Rajapur Road, Ratnagiri, Adavali, Kankavali and Sindhudurg stations.

Pune-Karmali special (Train number 01169)

The train will leave Pune at 18.45 hrs and arrive in Kudal at 10 hrs the next day. It will operate on September 15, 22 and 29.

The returning train Kudal-Pune Special (number 01170) will leave Kudal at 16.05 hrs and reach Pune at 05.50 hrs the next day. It will operate on September 17, 24 and October 1.

The train will halt at Lonavala, Panvel, Mangaon, Sawarda, Khed, Chiplun, Sangameshwar Road, Vilavade, Rajapur Road, Ratnagiri, Adavali, Vaibhavwadi Road, Nandgaon Road, Kankavali and Sindhudurg stations.

Diva–Ratnagiri MEMU Specials Daily (Train number 01153)

The train will leave Diva at 07.10 hrs and arrive at Ratnagiri at 14.55 hrs the same day. It will operate from September 13 to October 2. The returning train will leave Ratnagiri at 15.40 hrs and arrive at Diva at 22.40 hrs the same day.

The train will halt at Roha, Mangaon, Chiplun, Sawarda, Veer, Khed, Sangameshwar Road, and Aravali Road stations.

Mumbai- Madgaon Special Daily (Train Number 01151)

The train will leave the CSMT, Mumbai, at 11.50 hrs daily and arrive at Madgaon at 02.10 hrs the next day. It will operate starting from September 13.

The train will halt at Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Roha, Mangaon, Veer, Khed, Chiplun, Sawarda, Ratnagiri, Adavali, Vilavade, Rajapur Road, Aravali Road, Sangameshwar Road, Thivim, Vaibhavwadi Road, Nandgaon Road, Kankavali, Sindhudurg, Kudal, Sawantwadi Road, and Karmali stations.

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will start the Guru Kripa Yatra train to famous Sikh shrines covering five sacred sites from Wednesday.

A total of 678 pilgrims can travel on this train comprising nine sleeper coaches, one AC-3 tier coach and one AC-2 tier coach. This special pilgrimage named Guru Kirpa Yatra with exclusive Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train coincides with the Baisakhi festival, which is an important occasion for Sikhs.

Here are the key details you need to know about Guru Kirpa Yatra Train:

The train will embark on its 11 Days and 10 Nights journey from Lucknow on April 5. The pilgrims can board or deboard at Sitapur, Pilibhit and Bareilly.

The train comprising 9 sleeper coaches, one AC-3 tier coach and one AC-2 tier coach will end its journey on April 15.

The tour package will start from Rs 19,999 per person for double or triple occupancy and IRCTC offers three different packages- Standard, Superior and Comfort.

Under the Superior package, the passengers can travel in Third AC coaches and it will cost Rs 29,999 per person on double or triple sharing basis. The passengers opting for Comfort package will travel in Second AC coaches and it will cost Rs 39,999 per person.

The packages will include transportation and sightseeing in buses, night stay in an air-conditioned hotel, all vegetarian meals, and the cost of the appropriate class of train travel.

The destinations covered in the tour includes a visit to Sri Kesgarh Sahib Gurudwara and Virasat-e-khalsa at Anandpur Sahib, Gurudwara Sri Patalpuri Sahib at Kiratpur Sahib, Gurudwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib at Sirhind, Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Sri Harmandir Sahib at Amritsar, Sri Damdama Sahib at Bathinda, Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib at Nanded, Gurudwara Sri Guru Nanak Jhira Sahib at Bidar, and Gurudwara Sri Harmandarji Sahib at Patna.

Bharat Gaurav Trains were started by Indian Railways to showcase the country’s magnificent historical sites and rich cultural legacy to both Indians and the foreign tourists. The purpose of the theme-based trains is to capitalise on India’s enormous tourism potential.

The first Bharat Gaurav Train was started in June last year between Coimbatore North and Sainagar Shirdi.

Western Railway announces festival special trains for Bandra-Bhavnagar, Surat- Sabarmati- Okha; check details

Ahead of Holi next month and other festivals, Western Railway has announced special trains to manage the rush. The trains will have a special fare and will be running on the Bandra Terminus – Bhavnagar Terminus, Surat – Karmali, and Sabarmati – Okha routes. Passengers can book tickets through the IRCTC online portal or at reservation counters in stations. Bookings for the special trains opened on February 14.

Bandra Terminus – Bhavnagar Terminus Special – Train No. 09207/09208

Bandra Terminus – Bhavnagar Terminus Special trains will run on March 2 and March 3, departing from Bandra Terminus at 2:50 PM and 9:00 AM respectively, and reaching Bhavnagar between 3.5-4 hours. The trains will stop at stations like Borivali, Vapi, Surat, Vadodara Jn, Nadiad Jn, Ahmedabad, Surendranagar Gate, Botad, Dhola Jn, Songadh and Bhavnagar Para.

Surat – Karmali Special – Train No. 09193/09194

The Surat – Karmali Superfast Special trains will be departing from Surat on March 7 and March 8 at 7:50 PM and 4:20 PM, respectively. The trains will take around 16 hours to reach the destinations of Karmali.

The trains will be stopping at stations at Valsad, Vapi, Palghar, Vasai Road, Bhiwandi Road, Panvel, Roha, Mangaon, Khed, Chiplun, Savarda, Aravali Road, Sangameshwar Road, Ratnagiri, Adavali, Vilavade, Rajapur Road, Vaibhavwadi Road, Nandgaon Road, Kankavli, Sindhudurg, Kudal, Sawantwadi Road and Thivim stations. The train will stop at the above stations when travelling in either direction.

Sabarmati – Okha Superfast Special – Train No. 09453 /09454

Train No. 09453 Sabarmati – Okha Superfast Special will depart from Sabarmati on Thursday, February 16 at 11:35 PM and will arrive at Okha at 08:25 AM, the next day. Train No. 09454 Okha – Sabarmati Superfast Special will be departing from Okha on Friday, February 17 at 11:45 PM and arriving at Sabarmati at 08:35 AM.

The trains will stop at the following stations – Chandlodiya, Viramgam Junction, Surendranagar, Than Junction, Wankaner Junction, Rajkot, Hapa, Jamnagar, Khambhaliya, and Dwarka stations.

Railways to run 250 special trains for Chhath Puja: check details here

Chhath Puja is a Hindu festival that begins with Kartik Shukla Chaturthi and ends with Kartik Shukla Saptami. The festival is celebrated in the Indian subcontinent, particularly in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh to seek the blessings of the Sun god and his consort.

This year, the festival is going to be observed on October 30. To make travelling easier and more convenient, the Centre has announced to run of over 250 special trains for passengers visiting Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on the auspicious festival.

“For Chhath Puja, we have started over 250 trains. Around 1.4 lakhs berths have been made available and we will do whatever is necessary for the people,” Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.

Previously, the Indian Railways had decided to dedicate over 211 special trains for the Chhath Puja celebration.

The cities which will benefit include Delhi, Ranchi, Amritsar, Ferozepur Cantt, Jabalpur, Indore, Ahmedabad, Nanded, and Rani Kamalapati (Bhopal).

Earlier, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had requested the Centre to organise special train services for the smooth journey of the passengers visiting their families.

Crowd control measures have also been initiated under the supervision of RPF staff to ensure organised entry of passengers in unreserved coaches, the Railways Ministry said. Other services such as medical teams, and ambulances with paramedical teams will be available on-call at major stations.

Here is the list of Chhath Puja special trains passing through different stations of UP and Bihar:

• 04680 Amritsar: Katihar Puja Special will leave Amritsar at 8:10 am on October 27 and arrive at Katihar at 4:30 pm the next day.

• 04033 Bhagalpur: The train will leave Bhagalpur at 9:45 am on October 26 and will arrive in Delhi by 6:45 am on October 27.

• 09012 Malda Town: The special train will leave Malda Town at 5 am on October 26 and November 2. Mumbai Central Superfast special train will arrive at Mumbai Central at 5 am on Friday leaving Muzaffarpur at 2 pm.

• 04679 Katihar: Amritsar Puja Special will leave Katihar at 8:00 pm on October 28 and will reach Amritsar Junction at 4:30 am, the next day.

• 05777 GKP – New Jalpaiguri Chhath Special train will leave Gorakhpur at 5:00 pm on October 29. It will stop at Hajipur at 9:10 pm and will reach New Jalpaiguri at 09.30 am on October 30.

• 05978 Dibrugarh: Gorakhpur Chhath Special will leave Dibrugarh at 7:25 pm on October 27 and will reach Gorakhpur at 07:30 am. It will stop at Samastipur at 11:30 pm on Friday and Hajipur at 1:35 am on Saturday.
• 09011 Mumbai Central – Malda Town Superfast Special will leave Mumbai Central at 10:50 pm on October 30. It will reach Muzaffarpur at 10:30 am on Tuesday and arrive at Malda Town at 6:45 pm.

The Indian Railways on Monday announced the details of 205 special trains to be run between June 29 and July 11 for Rath Yatra festival in Puri. Anticipating a huge rush of devotees, the special trains will be run to and from Puri for the convenience of the devotees, an official of the East Coast Railways (ECoR) told news agency PTI.

The devotees have been allowed to participate in the grand festival of Jagannath Rath Yatra after a gap of two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has taken steps to facilitate pilgrims with reserved class accommodation, for the trains leaving from its jurisdiction towards Puri and vice-versa, apart from the special trains from neighbouring states.

Here is the schedule for some special trains for Rath Yatra 2022

Train 02837/002838 Shalimar-Puri-Shalimar Rath Yatra Special Express:

Departure from Shalimar at 12:45hrs on 29.06.2022. Arrival at Puri at 22:30hrs on the same day. It will leave Puri at 05:30hrs on 30.06.2022 for return journey.

Train 02827/002828 Shalimar-Puri-Shalimar Rath Yatra Special Express:

Departure from Shalimar at 21:40hrs on 29.06.2022 and arrival at Puri at 07:00hrs on 30.06.2022. It will leave Puri at 23:05hrs on 30.06.2022.

Train 08907/08908 Visakhapatnam-Puri- Visakhapatnam Rath Yatra Special:

Departure from Visakhapatnam at 14:30hrs on 30.06.2022 and arrival at Puri at 01:15hrs on 01.07.2022. It will leave Puri at 23:15hrs on 01.07.2022.

Train 08911/08912 Junagarh Road-Puri- Junagarh Road Rath Yatra Special Express via Sambalpur & Talcher Road:

Departure from Junagarh Road at 11:00hrs on 30.06.2022. This train will leave Puri at 0015hrs on 02.07.2022 (midnight of 01.07.2022) in return direction.

Train 08418/08417 Gunupur-Puri- Gunupur Rath Yatra Special Express from Gunupur:

Departure from Gunpur at 23:30hrs on 30.06.2022. It will leave Puri at 01:45hrs on 02.07.2022 (midnight of 01.07.2022) in return direction.

Train 08909/08910 Jagadalpur-Puri-Jagadalpur Rath Yatra Special via Rayagada & Vizianagaram:

Departure from Jagadalpur at 18:30hrs on 30.06.2022. It will leave Puri at 20:05hrs on 01.07.2022 in return direction.

Train 02891/02810 Bhubaneswar-Puri- Bhubaneswar Rath Yatra Special:

Departure from Bhubaneswar at 10:05hrs. It will leave Puri at 15:10hrs. The train will run between July 1 and July 11, 2022.

Train 08931/08932 Sambalpur-Puri-Sambalpur Rath Yatra Special via Naraj Marthapur & Talcher Road:

Departure from Sambalpur at 21:30hrs on 30.06.2022. It will leave Puri at 2025hrs on 01.07.2022 in return direction.

Apart from this, 10 pairs of trains (20 trips) will run to and from Puri and different parts of the state.

Special trains on Gundicha Yatra (which falls on July 1, 2022) will be running from Paradip, Cuttack, Mahipur, Brahmapur, Bhadrak, Khurda Road, Keonjhar Road towards Puri and vice versa.

Similarly, on Sandhya Darshan on July 8, 2022, 7 pairs of special trains, 3 pairs from Mahipur and 4 pairs from Khurda Road will run towards Puri and vice versa.

On the day of Bahuda Yatra, July 9, 2022; 10 pairs of special trains will run from Paradeep, Mahipur, Cuttack, Brahmapur, Bhadrak, Khurda Road, Keonjhargarh towards Puri and vice versa.

On Sunavesha Day, July 10, 2022; 11 pairs of special trains will run from Paradeep, Mahipur, Cuttack, Brahmapur, Bhadrak, Khurda Road, Keonjhargarh towards Puri and vice versa.

Then, on the day after Sunavesha, on July 11, 2022, 6 Special Trains will leave Puri towards Gunupur, Rayagada, Bhadrak, Visakhapatnam, Kendujhargarh and Mahipur and one special train will run from Keonjhargarh to Puri.

Three pairs of trains will also ply between Khurda Road & Puri and two pairs will ply between Mahipur & Puri July 2 to July 7, 2022.

These special trains along with others are being planned to run during the period of Rath Yatra as per an Odisha TV news report.

Western Railway to run 12 pairs of special trains during upcoming festival

The Western Railway (WR) has said that 156 trips of 12 special trains would be operated on various routes during the forthcoming Dussehra and Diwali festivals to clear the extra rush of passengers. Of these 12 pairs of special trains, five pairs will run from Bandra Terminus, two pairs each from Indore and Udhna and one pair each from Okha, Porbandar and Gandhidham stations, the WR said in a release on Friday.

”All the trains will run as special trains on special fare,” it said. They will be run as fully reserved trains. Booking for these trains will start between October 17 and 22 onwards, the WR said.
