Jasprit Bumrah to miss fourth Test match against England in Ranchi

Summary

Bumrah’s involvement in all five Tests, IPL and T20 World Cup worried team management and the selectors so they decided to give some well-deserved rest to the seamer.

India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been released from the squad for the fourth Test match against England in Ranchi.

“Jasprit Bumrah has been released from the squad for the 4th IDFC First Bank Test against England in Ranchi. The decision was taken considering the duration of the series and the amount of cricket he has played recently,” read a statement from the BCCI on Tuesday.

As per the reports in Indian Express, BCCI has given some rest to the star pacer as he will be needed for the final game in Dharamsala. Bumrah’s involvement in all five Tests, IPL and T20 World Cup worried team management and the selectors so they decided to give some well-deserved rest to the seamer.

Meanwhile, England’s Jonny Bairstow has come in for criticism after scoring just 102 runs in three matches in India but coach Brendon McCullum said it was important to show faith in the batter and that he has no plans to drop him for the fourth test in Ranchi.

Bairstow’s highest score in the series so far was 37, posted in the opener in Hyderabad. He scored four runs in England’s 434-run thrashing in the third test in Rajkot and was trapped lbw for a duck in his first innings, making him the player with the most ducks against India in test cricket with eight.

The 34-year-old’s struggles with the bat prompted former England captain Alastair Cook to say he should be dropped from the side but McCullum is keen on helping him rediscover his form.

Asked if Bairstow would make his 99th test appearance in Ranchi this week, McCullum told reporters: “I haven’t even seen the wicket. But I’d anticipate Jonny would be playing, yes.”

McCullum acknowledged that Bairstow had underperformed during the series but said he deserved some time to get back on track.

“I’m not blind but he’s done so well for us and he’s had such an impactful career …,” McCullum said.

“So from our point of view, we’ve got to keep on giving him confidence and block out a lot of the external noise as well and keep him really present and focused on what he’s trying to achieve, and I’m sure Jonny will come good.

“(I will) spend a bit of time with Jonny and remind him that he’s such a wonderful player.”

India lead the five-match series 2-1, with the fourth test getting underway on Friday.

Jasprit Bumrah paces on top in ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings for the first time

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Jasprit Bumrah was awarded the Match honours in the second Test and escalated three places on the latest Test rankings for bowlers to claim the top spot from teammate Ravichandran Ashwin.

India’s star bowler Jasprit Bumrah strikes the top spot in ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings for the first time. Bumrah’s splendid 9/91 saw the right-arm pacer become the first quick from India to claim the top Test ranking.

Bumrah was awarded the Match honours in the second Test and escalated three places on the latest Test rankings for bowlers to claim the top spot from teammate Ravichandran Ashwin.

It is the first time that the 30-year-old held the top ranking despite having a total of 10 five-wicket hauls from 34 Test match appearances.

Two of those five-wicket hauls have come in Test matches in 2024 for Bumrah, with the India pacer collecting figures of 6/61 against South Africa in Cape Town at the start of the year and then an equally impressive spell of 6/45 in his most recent appearance against England, read the ICC statement.

The 30-year-old was an artist at work on day two of the second Test against England as he got the ball to reverse in three destructive spells across the last two sessions to end up with figures of six for 45 in 15.5 overs. It was largely due to his exploits that the hosts managed to clean up England for 253 and gain a substantial 143-run first-innings lead.

“In first-class cricket, if you want to take wickets in India, you have to learn to bowl reverse swing. Probably, I learned to bowl reverse swing before the conventional swing because you play a lot of cricket on slow wickets,” said Bumrah.

“Test cricket teaches you patience, isn’t’ it? When you try and bowl magical deliveries now and then, it doesn’t work. Even if you have everything you don’t need to use everything at one particular time. “You understand what is working today and what is the need of the hour. Try to focus on the now. Earlier, if I have thought about taking six wickets, it has never worked for me. I have a lot of deliveries and you can confuse yourself. You need to shut that noise and focus on the next ball,” he added.

ICC World Cup: Mohammed Siraj silences critics with extraordinary opening spell against Sri Lanka

Summary

Jasprit Bumrah hit the jackpot with a strike in the first delivery of the second innings, trapping Patthum Nissanka in front of the stumps. Mohammed Siraj, whose form has been up for debate lately, caught Lankan opener Dimuth Karunaratne off guard on the first delivery of his spell.

Indian bowlers continued their excellent form with the ball in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 by rolling over the Sri Lankan top order at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

Sameera Samarickwarma, who has been Sri Lanka’s highest run-scorer in this tournament, couldn’t weather the storm unleashed by Siraj either as he ended up handing a catch to Shreyas Iyer who had notched a half-century in the first innings.

Siraj silenced his critics by returning for his second over and knocking over Lankan skipper Kusal Perera, effectively reducing them to 3/4 at the start of the fourth over.

Sri Lanka seems to bring out the best of Siraj, with the pacer having picked up an excellent six-wicket haul to bowl them out for 50 in the Asia Cup final in Colombo in September.

He had bowled a similarly extraordinary spell against them in Kochi earlier this year, and they were perhaps the ideal opponent for the out-of-form speedster to recover his rhythm.

Jasprit Bumrah strikes twice in two balls to put England in backfoot

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Bumrah struck twice in back-to-back balls in the 5th over of the first powerplay dismissing Joe Root and Dawid Malan. This was the third time Jasprit dismissed Joe Root for a golden duck in international cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah gave India the breakthrough to put England in the backfoot after India posted a total of 229 after 50 overs on Sunday at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Bumrah struck twice in back-to-back balls in the 5th over of the first powerplay dismissing Joe Root and Dawid Malan. This was the third time Jasprit dismissed Joe Root for a golden duck in international cricket.

“What a start! Under the lights maybe the ball is doing a bit but this is high-quality bowling from Bumrah and Shami. But what a strange innings from Stokes!” cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle wrote on X formerly known as Twitter.

Skipper Rohit Sharma’s half-century and Suryakumar Yadav’s (49) useful contribution helped India labour to 229 for nine in their World Cup match against England here on Sunday. Opener Rohit scored a 101ball 87, while Surya struck a 47ball 49. Shubman Gill (9), Virat Kohli (0), Shreyas Iyer (4) and KL Rahul (39) failed to score big.

English bowlers put Indian batters under pressure very early in the match as opener Shubman Gill and star batter Virat Kohli were dismissed cheaply inside the powerplay, While Gill was clean bowled by Chris Woakes on 9, Kohli handed and easy catch to Ben Stokes off the bowling of David Willey and walked back without opening his account. It was for the first time in his career that Kohli was dismissed on duck in a World Cup match.

Rohit Sharma, captaining India for the 100th time in an international match, came up with a significant knock of 87 in 100 balls before he was tempted to come out of the crease and play a shot in the air against Adil Rashid only to get caught by Liam Livingstone in the deep.

In the fag end of the innings, tailenders Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav put together a partnership of 21 runs. Kuldeep made 9 off 13 balls and Bumrah scored 16 in 25 balls before he got run-out in an attempt to sneak in a single on the last ball of the innings.

India’s batting performance against England meant that India remains the only team to have not lost all its 10 wickets even once. Every other team except for India had lost all its 10 wickets at least once.

Jasprit Bumrah focusing on process after delivering best ever World Cup performance

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

On a belter of a pitch that the Arun Jaitley Stadium offers, where 350-360 was a par score, Jasprit Bumrah ended with figures of four for 39 in 10 overs, allowing India to limit Afghanistan to 272 for 8, a target the hosts gunned down in 35 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah took 4/39 turned out to be his best World Cup performance which also helmed India for an 8-wicket victory against Afghanistan. On a belter of a pitch that the Arun Jaitley Stadium offers, where 350-360 was a par score, Bumrah ended with figures of four for 39 in 10 overs, allowing India to limit Afghanistan to 272 for 8, a target the hosts gunned down in 35 overs.

His new-ball partner Mohammed Siraj was taken to the cleaners both in the powerplay and later on in the innings but the Afghanistan batters could not flex their muscle against the wily Bumrah, who has looked as sharp as ever since his comeback in August. He has also added an outswinger to his already lethal armoury.

While Siraj was looking for some swing and seam early on, Bumrah knew there was none coming. Therefore, he just focused on bowling the hard lengths. Asked to rate his performance after the game, Bumrah was modest, to say the least.

“I am not result-oriented. Just because I have taken four wickets, that doesn’t mean that I am very, very happy or I have done something extraordinary. I just go with my preparation. I go with the process that I feel is right. I try to read the wickets and try to find the best answers that work on that wicket.

“As simple as that, not thinking about the results because I’ve got results today. I’m very, very good, that doesn’t work in my book. I try to back my strengths, try to read the wicket, and try to give my best,” he said in a matter-of-fact way after India’s emphatic win on Wednesday.

If the wickets don’t make him “happy”, what else does? Bumrah harped about his “process” again.

“See, obviously in this format you have to understand what is working. So, some days there would be some swings, so your lengths would change. But this wicket was quite a batting track that we realised early on as well when we started bowling.

“There was a little bit of seam but the ball was coming on to the bat really well from the first over so we realised that. So, we are just trying to hit the hard length, try to make it as difficult as possible and try to make them hit difficult shots. So that was the plan and probably trying to do that,” said the 29-year-old.

Bumrah was out of action for almost a year before making a comeback with the T20s in Ireland. His performance in the Asia Cup too met his high standards.

Ahead of his much-awaited return, Bumrah had insisted that he was getting ready to bowl 10 overs in a game and not the four he would require in a T20.

When he was asked to assess his progress over the last 45 days, Bumrah was expectedly not intrigued.

“See, at the end of the day, you (media) guys will anyway decide that this is, I was like this, I was like that, what I am doing. But I don’t work like that. As I told you, I just look at my preparations. And I am a little detached person. I don’t know what’s going around in the world.

“So, I just looked at what I have to do on that particular day and obviously reading the game, reading your strengths that’s what has worked for me in the past as well, keeping all of those things in mind, keep going forward.” Will be happy to see my mother at home. After all, there are a few things that make Bumrah happy and one of them is seeing his mother. He has yet to play an ODI at his home ground in Ahmedabad but on Saturday, he will get to do that on the biggest stage as India takes on Pakistan in front of a one lakh-plus crowd.

“Yeah, obviously I’ve been away for a while now. I’ll be happy to see my mother at home. I’m going to see her. That’s the first basic thing for me. It’s obviously playing (being played) at home,” said the Ahmedabad-born pacer.

“I have not played a one-day international there. I played a Test match. So, yeah, the atmosphere is going to be exciting. I’m sure a lot of people are going to come. So, it will be a sight to see. So, yeah, hoping for the best over there.” The World Cup is likely to give the ODIs a booster shot it desperately needs. The format’s future is uncertain in the era of T20 leagues but Bumrah remains a fan of ODIs.

“That depends on the interest because maybe the longer game is sometimes difficult for people to watch and keep a tab on. But at the end of the day, I come from a generation that loves cricket. I watched a Test match and that was my favourite format.

“So, I probably would not be able to relate to that because I love watching the game. I love watching the longest format of the game. So yeah, probably you’ll have to ask a person who’s a little younger than me,” added Bumrah.

Asia Cup India vs Sri Lanka: Kohli and Bumrah to be rested; Shreyas and Shami join playing XI says reports

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Reportedly, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah will be rested for the upcoming game against Sri Lanka. Whereas Shreyas Iyer, who faced a back spasm on Monday will join back in the playing XI along with Mohammed Shami.

After a terrific domination shown to Pakistan on the reserve day game, India’s team management has decided to give rest to a few players. Reportedly, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah will be rested for the upcoming game against Sri Lanka. Whereas Shreyas Iyer, who faced a back spasm on Monday will join back in the playing XI along with Mohammed Shami, who had been India’s first-choice seamer in the format in Bumrah’s absence.

According to Indian Express reports, the team management has taken this decision as the World Cup is just around the corner. India is coming back on several injuries, especially with key players and every decision is taken into consideration that players’ comebacks don’t get impacted due to excessive workload.

India beat rivals Pakistan by 228 runs after Virat Kohli passed 13,000 in one-day internationals en route to his 47th century and KL Rahul marked his return from injury with a ton in a lopsided Asia Cup Super Four clash in Colombo on Monday. Pakistan’s batsmen, needing a daunting 357 for victory after Kohli made 122 not out off 94 balls and Rahul remained unbeaten on 111 off 106, never really got going and finished on 128 with Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf both absent through injury.

India spinner Kuldeep Yadav (5-25) ripped through Pakistan’s lineup following a brief rain interruption after Jasprit Bumrah removed Imam-ul-Haq and Hardik Pandya castled the dangerous Babar Azam. India had reached 147-2 in 24.1 overs after half-centuries by skipper Rohit Sharma (56) and fellow opener Shubman Gill (58) on Sunday but rain meant the match would finish on the reserve day and the runs continued to flow after a delayed start.

“It was a fantastic batting performance, right from yesterday,” Rohit said. “When we started, we knew that the wicket was good. “With interruptions you have to adjust, but with two experienced batters in the middle we knew they would get their eye in and then a terrific effort from both.”

Kohli and Rahul saw off the threat of Pakistan’s pace attack, missing Rauf due to a right flank problem, and the duo targeted the spinners to post 356-2 in 50 overs. Rahul and Kohli’s unbeaten 233-run partnership for the third wicket was the highest stand in the Asia Cup.

“Both KL and myself are conventional players,” Kohli said. “When you have him batting the way he was and me playing, it’s tough to break these partnerships because we don’t play fancy shots. “We didn’t think about the partnership too much, the idea was to keep batting. It’s one of the memorable partnerships we’ve had and for Indian cricket as well. He hit form for us straight away, good for us.”

Rahul, returning to the side after surgery for a quadriceps injury in May, flexed his muscles against spinners Iftikhar Ahmed and Shadab Khan and stepped down the wicket to flick the latter for a massive six after getting his half-century. India raised the tempo amid the threat of more showers and cruised to the 300-run mark in 45 overs before Rahul – who made the team due to Shreyas Iyer’s back issue – reached his sixth hundred and raised his bat like a sword.

Kohli then became the fifth batsman and the quickest to make 13,000 runs in the format and celebrated his own century shortly afterwards, pumping his fists before raising his hands to huge roars at the R Premadasa Stadium. He finished with a flourish, carting Faheem Ashraf for two fours – including one from a free hit – and a huge shot over the ropes at the end of the final over.

India, whose group meeting with Pakistan in Pallekele this month was abandoned due to rain, take on Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

Bet on Bumrah: The speedster bowling over fans and brands

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Showered with faith and affection, along with his peerless cricketing skills and sharp tactical acumen ensure that Bumrah remains in the picture to become the Indian captain in the long run. He has had a taste of leadership in the red-ball format in the fifth Test of the bilateral series between India and England in 2022. The series against Ireland allows him to quite literally spearhead a team of promising youngsters and assert a dominant and attractive brand of Indian cricket in the shortest format of international cricket.

Narratives define the movements and decisions of the masses in any walk of life. For years, the sight of a batter smashing the bowler for boundaries delighted impressionable youngsters. From Sunil Gavaskar to Sachin Tendulkar, to Virat Kohli in the present days, batters have hogged headlines and been the trendsetters for children across the country. However, that perception gradually began transforming when a promising pacer emerged from the hinterlands of Gujarat to star at iconic cricketing venues in all parts of the world.

Jasprit Bumrah, coming back from a year-long injury layoff, has a shot at being India’s first-ever fast-bowling superstar. While there have been stalwarts and Indian cricket in the past who have bowled Indian cricket to glory in the past, Bumrah has his unique impact which he has on a batters technique and temperament.

But, the Boom impact is not only limited to the pitch. Yes, batters have for long taken the pole position about securing lucrative commercial contracts and brand deals, promoting top-notch companies and developing an influence over the audiences through their off-field shenanigans in the past.

For reasons best attributed to a lack of ingenuity amongst the decision-makers, bowlers have been largely deprived of leadership responsibilities as well as any sort of brand commitments outside of cricket. Their entire focus is suggested to rest on keeping themselves fit and ready for the rigors of the international game. But, in an age when little separates athletes in terms of physical strength, new doors are being opened for them to connect with the masses in their unique way.

Bumrah is someone who stands outside the crop, with brands desiring that distinctiveness more than anything else. The mere fact that he has a unique bowling action but has still made that click in the biggest of competitions shows that he is no one-trick pony. Leading a bowling unit from the front has become the norm for whichever team he represents and that has automatically translated into him captaining the Indian side in his comeback tour to Ireland.

The brand world will be equally upbeat with his impending return to cricket. For years, bowlers received lesser attention in the form of endorsements but Bumrah has revolutionalised that facet in Indian cricket. The fact that he stands as the only pure bowler in BCCI’s A+ contract, says enough on his stature in Indian cricket. Currently, Bumrah’s brand portfolio boasts of 14 brands, which is expected to grow by close to 20 within the the next 8-12 months. Currently, he is the face for brands like Boomer, Performax, Thums Up, Unix, uppercase, Dream11, amongst others. According to industry sources, Bumrah’s per day fee for an endorsement contract varies between Rs. 1.5 – 2 crores.

Nikhil Bardia, Head of Sponsorship Sales and Talent at RISE Worldwide, which manages Bumrah, says, “Jasprit Bumrah is not only a cricketer, he is an emotion for cricket fans in India and across the world. He embodies class, trust, belief and hope for fans, who believe that he can do the unthinkable and brands love that. In Jasprit, they have an icon, who connects instantly with the audience, and the fact that he resonates with people across generations, opens up an entire gamut of brand categories aiming to tie-up with him. A strong digital reach of over 25 million followers across platforms catalyses the brand interest for him. I think the next 12 months are going to be extremely exciting on and off-the-pitch for brand Bumrah.”

His charisma, charm, and uber-cool social media persona earmark him as a bankable bet for any firm on the rise. Combine that with his seriously undeniable and terrific professional standards and brands have a player that has achieved unforeseen success at 29, yet has the sky to aim for in the coming years.

For starters, he embodies some of the foremost qualities that companies look for in a public face. He is trustworthy, which can be estimated from the significant reliance that both his franchise and the national team have laid on him. Whatever may be the challenge, Bumrah is tasked to get the job done in the most crucial of junctures of any game. Backed by impeccable skill and diligent work ethics, Bumrah has gained the faith of both the team management and fans to emerge triumphant from precarious positions time and again.

He is an instant hit amongst the fans, owing to his amiable and affable nature. A man of few words, his admirable on-field performances coupled with a spotless off-field record make him an extremely endearing and likable character. Chants of ‘Bumrah, Bumrah’ reverberate across massive stadiums and supporters go berserk celebrating deliveries where he sends the stumps cartwheeling behind the batter. Moreover, his embracement of an eccentric action sprouts curiosity among young kids picking up the sport. Visuals of teenagers trying to imitate Bumrah’s style of bowling are a common sight in the famed maidans of Mumbai. The sheer unconventionality of the same piques the interest of viewers and sets him apart as someone special in the eyes of a brand.

Also Read: The emergence, injury, and comeback of Karnataka pacer Prasidh Krishna

There is an inevitable aura of coolness attached to Bumrah as well. He is not your typical pacer who makes fast bowling seem like the work of a daily wager on the field. Not once would one see him complain about being overstaffed with responsibilities, shouldering the task of an entire bowling unit on tracks where only he can be the point of difference between the two teams. Bumrah really does enjoy his craft.

He puts a lot of thought behind it. He is exceptionally determined to build up his physical strength and agility to bring about longevity in his career. But more than anything, he inspires people to take up fast bowling, donning a wide smile after every wicket and sharing a light moment with teammates now and then. He is quite literally the antithesis of the conventional fast bowler, who rages with anger at every opposition. Rarely does he sledge, but still possesses an indomitable competitive spirit that makes him a force to reckon with. This fine blend of controlled combativeness coupled with a pleasant exterior makes Bumrah a cricketer adorned with the best qualities of both worlds.

Bumrah is already perceived widely as a thoughtful, articulate, and introspective individual who can be a leader amongst men. He has already cemented his status and stature on the field with his stocks simultaneously being on the rise away from the pitch as well. The added feather of India’s captaincy will certainly make him one of the hottest propositions in world cricket. When Bumrah broke through the ranks in the IPL in 2013, it was clear that he was always destined for great things. Nearing 30, he will be entering a phase of his career where most cricketers find their best successes in. The body and the mind interlink and amalgam together with perfection at this age and thus sets up the platform for any player to thrive exponentially in the sport. The message for the cricketing and corporate ecosystem in the world is clear – Bet on Bumrah!

Ravi Shastri’s take on India’s playing XI amid injuries ahead of Asia Cup

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

Both Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who is undergoing injury rehabilitation at the NCA in Bengaluru, are expected to regain full fitness before the Asia Cup starting August 31.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri would not include K L Rahul in the playing eleven for the Asia Cup as it would be asking for “too much” from a player who has not played competitive cricket for close to four months.

Both Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who is undergoing injury rehabilitation at the NCA in Bengaluru, are expected to regain full fitness before the Asia Cup starting August 31.

“When you are talking of a player who has not played and is recovering from injury. To think of him in the playing eleven of the Asia Cup, you are asking a little too much of the player himself.

Also read: Indian batting duo of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal move up in the ICC rankings

“And then you are talking keeping when the guy has come from a knee injury, the range of movement, things like (that). That is a no, no straight,” Shastri told Star Sports in a panel discussion referring to Rahul. He also warned against rushing back players from injuries.

“You can’t rush players back from injuries. You did that with Jasprit Bumrah, not once, twice but thrice and he has been out for 14 months now.” In place of Rahul, Shastri would like to see rookie batter Tilak Varma in the middle order. He wants to see three left-handers in the top seven, including Ravindra Jadeja.

“There are three other positions where I think two left-handers have to come in. Now, this is where the selectors’ role comes in because they are watching. They know who’s the guy who’s hot. If Tilak Varma is hot, bring him in. If you think (Yashasvi) Jaiswal is hot, bring him in.

Also read: Jasprit Bumrah bowls at full tilt in the nets ahead of the India’s T20I series against Ireland

“I am very impressed with Tilak and if I want a left-hander, I would look in that direction. The way he has got his runs over the last three months, whether in the IPL or India, he has ticked all the boxes,” said Shastri.

Shastri also backed Ishan Kishan to come good.

“Including Jaddu (Jadeja), there should be three left-handers in the top seven. Ishan Kishan has been keeping for the last 15 months. Why go somewhere else? “If you have persisted with Ishan Kishan for the last six to eight months, and he’s going to keep wickets, he comes in, in any case. But, get two left-handers,” he said.

Justifying his point further, Shastri remembered the 2019 World Cup semifinal loss to New Zealand.

“People don’t give credit what Shikhar Dhawan deserves. That guy was an amazing player. When we lost that World Cup semifinal, he was missed. A left-hander at the top of the order, as opposed to three right-handers, makes a huge difference when the ball is swinging away (swinging in for the right-handers),” he added.

Summary

Bumrah and Broad have squared off thrice previously, during India’s tours to the English shores in 2018, 2021, and 2022.

Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah joined in giving a tribute to English veteran pacer Stuart Broad as the 37-year-old brought curtains down to his illustrious international career post the fifth Test of Ashes 2023 at The Oval on Monday.

“Congratulations on a remarkable career @StuartBroad8! Your contribution to the game has been immense. Wishing you the best for everything that lies ahead,” Bumrah tweeted on Tuesday.

Broad scalped a couple of wickets in the fourth innings as England triumphed over the last Test of the series courtesy of an impeccable performance by the home side. Bumrah and Broad have squared off thrice previously, during India’s tours to the English shores in 2018, 2021, and 2022.

Bumrah returns to lead India

Meanwhile, the 29-year-old returned to the Indian team, making a comeback into the national side for the first time since September last year. He underwent back surgery in New Zealand in March this year and has been recently rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
