Ivana Trump — Donald Trump’s ex-wife was a power woman in her own right
KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)
Summary
The police rushed to Ivana Trump’s house near Central Park after receiving an emergency call at 12.40 pm and pronounced her dead at the scene. She was 73. Investigations are on about the cause of her sudden death.
Former US President Donald Trump’s ex-wife Ivana Trump, who was a skier-turned-businesswoman, died in New York City at the age of 73.
Ivana was found unconscious on a staircase in her East 64th Street home near Central Park, reports said. The police are investigating if her death was accidental, caused by a fall down the stairs, AP reported quoting two anonymous sources. The police rushed to her house after receiving an emergency call at 12.40 pm and pronounced her dead at the scene.
Sharing the news on social media site Truth Social, Donald Trump said Ivana was “a wonderful, beautiful, and amazing woman.”
The couple had three children together — Donald Jr, Ivanka and Eric.
Meet Ivana Trump
Born as Ivana Zelnickova on February 20, 1949, in the Czechoslovak city in Gottwaldov in present-day Czech Republic, Ivana Trump was the daughter of an electrical engineer and a telephone operator. She grew up in the town which is now known as Zlin in the Czech Republic near Prague.
Her country was under Soviet control when she was a child. As a youngster, Ivana participated in competitive skiing for the Czechoslovakian national system. She later competed for Charles University in Prague, from where she earned a master’s degree in physical education and languages, Reuters reported quoting data from CMG Worldwide, a business agency for celebrities.
She married Austrian ski instructor Alfred Winklmayr to obtain Austrian citizenship. Her marriage helped her leave her communist home country without defecting, said BBC.
According to Reuters, Ivana followed her then love interest, professional skier George Syrovatka to Canada. While in Canada, she modelled for the Audrey Morris agency in Montreal.
It was on a work trip to New York in 1976 that Ivana met Donald Trump and the two were married nine months later.
Marriage with Trump
Over the course of their marriage, Ivana donned several roles within the Trump Organisation, working alongside her husband, developing the signature Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. She played a major role in building up the Trump media image as New York City’s power couple in the 1980s.
She also worked on high-profile projects like the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey, the Times said.

She was made the vice-president for interior design for the Trump Organization and president of New York’s Plaza Hotel. From the historic hotel, Ivana received an annual salary of $1 and all the haute-couture gladrags she wanted, which reportedly totalled around $500,000 per year, Washington Post reported.
However, in 1990, the former US President is believed to have locked her out of her office at the hotel after fights over four pre-nuptial agreements.
Divorce with Trump
Their divorce, following Donald Trump’s highly-publicised affair with younger model Marla Maples, was sensationalised by the New York tabloids. The battle went on for months, with Ivana claiming that her husband had raped her after an argument. Later, she said she did not mean it literally, saying, “As a woman, I felt violated.”
Their divorce was finalised in 1992, in which she won $14 million plus $650,000 per year as child support and alimony for their three children. She was also granted a 45-room mansion in Connecticut, an apartment in Trump Plaza, and use of the Mar-a-Lago mansion in Florida for one month a year, the New York Times reported.
However, Ivana later supported her former husband during his run for the White House in 2016.
Later marriages
After her marriage with Donald Trump ended, Ivana was married to Italian businessman Riccardo Mazzucchelli from 1995-97 and Italian actor Rossano Rubicondi from 2008-09.
One of her most memorable quotes was in a cameo role in the 1996 movie, The First Wives Club, where she tells disgruntled divorcees: “Ladies, you have to be strong and independent. And remember, don’t get mad, get everything.”

Bihar girl cycling 1,200 km with father impresses Ivanka Trump

Summary
Jyoti left along with her father from Gurugram on a bicycle for Darbhanga.
The news of a 15-year-old girl Jyoti Kumari taking her injured father to home in Bihar’s Darbhanga — 1,200 km from Gurugram, on a bicycle during the lockdown, has impressed US President Donald Trump’s daughter and adviser Ivanka Trump.
Praising Jyoti, Ivanka on Friday shared the news on Twitter and said the “beautiful feat of endurance and love has captured the imagination of the Indian people and the cycling federation”.
She tweeted: “15 yr old Jyoti Kumari, carried her wounded father to their home village on the back of her bicycle covering +1,200 km over 7 days. This beautiful feat of endurance & love has captured the imagination of the Indian people and the cycling federation!”
Responding to Ivanka, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah said: “Her poverty and desperation are being glorified as if Jyoti rode 1,200 km for the thrill of it. The government failed her, that’s hardly something to trumpet as an achievement.”
Jyoti and her father lived in Gurugram in Haryana. Her father Mohan Paswan was injured in an accident during the lockdown, leaving him unable to go home.
Following this, on May 10, Jyoti left along with her father from Gurugram on a bicycle for Darbhanga. She arrived home on May 16.
People were stunned to learn about the plight, as well as courage displayed by Jyoti. Even Ivanka Trump was impressed and went on to share the news related to Jyoti.

Elon Musk tweets ‘take the red pill’, Ivanka Trump says ‘taken’
KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)
Summary
Actor Keanu Reeves is given a choice in the film ‘The Matrix’ – he can take the blue pill and return to his regular life, or he can choose the red pill and learn the whole truth about living in a computer simulation.
Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and US President Donald Trumps daughter and adviser Ivanka had a moment on Twitter via a cryptic tweet related to the all-time science-fiction classic The Matrix.
Musk tweeted on Sunday: “Take the red pill” to his over 34 million followers.
Ivanka retweeted it, adding the word: “Taken!”
For the uninitiated, “Take the red pill” is a line from the popular 1999 movie “The Matrix” about seeking the unvarnished truth:
“You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes”, was the dialogue in the film.
Actor Keanu Reeves is given a choice in the film – he can take the blue pill and return to his regular life, or he can choose the red pill and learn the whole truth about living in a computer simulation.
“The Matrix” co-creator Lilly Wachowski joined Musk and Ivanka, only to spoil the ‘red pill’ party, by tweeting: “F*** both of you”.
More recently, the use of “red pill” has been like slang for people abandoning the ways of liberalism for the values of conservatism, reports Fox News.
Musk, who has been critical of lockdowns and shelter-in-home policies during the Covid-19 pandemic, reopened Tesla’s plant in Fremont, California in defiance of local restrictions last week.

Ivanka Trump, US President Donald Trump’s daughter and senior advisor, has lauded an initiative by Indian start-up OYO Hotels to offer free stays to doctors, nurses in the US helping in the fight against the novel coronavirus, terming the gesture an impactful act of benevolence.
She made her comment while retweeting a press release by OYO, which said that the start-up is “opening the doors to its hotels” and offering free stays to doctors, nurses and other medical first responders who are helping in the fight against coronavirus.
“OYO Hotels are offering free stays to our amazing medical professionals and first responders fighting this virus on the frontlines. These kinds of impactful acts of benevolence are what help keep this nation and our world #TogetherApart,” 38-year-old Ivanka, the first daughter, tweeted.
The OYO press release said that beginning March 24, medical first responders will receive free accommodations at any OYO Hotel in the United States so they can sleep, shower or just get off their feet and recharge.
“All of us at OYO are grateful for the bravery and sacrifices all the medical personnel are making to save lives and stop the spread of COVID-19,” Ritesh Agarwal, the founder and group CEO of OYO Hotels & Homes, said in the press release.
North Carolina Medical Society CEO Robert Seligson said OYO’s offer shows what America is all about.
“If we come together and help each other, show kindness and determination, there isn’t a challenge we won’t overcome. This is a great idea that will help physicians and other health care providers on the front lines during this unprecedented crisis, and I hope others will join them, Seligson said.
OYO said it will do all it can to make the lives of the brave medical personnel a little better. It is our responsibility to give back. To all the medical personnel fighting this disease on the front lines, we welcome you and we can’t be grateful enough.”
The medical personnel can call a designated number to get their reservation for the nearest OYO and with a valid active First Responder identification, OYO Hotels will cover all the costs.
Founded in 2013, Gurugram-based OYO’s portfolio includes 43,000 hotels with over 1 million rooms and 130,000 vacation homes in over 800 cities in 80 countries. OYO entered the US market in February 2019.

US President Donald Trump on Monday announced that India and the US are in discussion for a “fantastic” trade agreement.
Terming that the proposed agreement will be among the biggest ever made, he said: “Over the course of my visit, Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi and I will also discuss our efforts to expand the economic ties between our two countries.”
The US president said that commerce between the two nations has increased “by more than 40 percent”. “We will be making a very, very major, among the biggest ever made trade deals,” he said.
Detailing on it, he said, “We are in the early stages of discussion for an incredible trade agreement to reduce barriers of investments, between the US and India and I am optimistic that working together, the Prime Minister and I can reach a fantastic deal that’s good and even great for both of our countries.”
According to Trump “Prime Minister Modi is a ‘very tough’ negotiator.” India is now a major market for American exports and the US is India’s largest export market, he said.
Trump also said the US was prepared to supply India with defence equipment ranging from drones to helicopters and missile systems.
We look forward to providing the “best and most feared military equipment” to India, said Trump, while addressing a crowd of more than 100,000 people at Motera stadium in Ahmedabad.
Trump said he looked forward to expanding space cooperation between the two nations, and said both sides were at the early stages of reaching an “incredible” trade agreement.
‘Booming America’ is a great thing for India
Trump added a “booming” America is a great thing for India and also for the world and “that’s why, we are so happy to announce that we have had the greatest economy ever in the history of the US.”
“We have proven that the best way to attract jobs and opportunity is to reduce burdens on business, knock down barriers to new investments and eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy, red tape, regulations and taxes in the US,” he said.
Trump added that Prime Minister Modi has already made significant reforms in India, and the world is looking forward to even more rapid improvement in India’s business climate.
“Under his (Modi’s) leadership, he wants to do and he is doing this at a record pace,” Trump added.
Earlier, President Trump landed for his first visit to India to a grand welcome by Prime Minister Modi and thousands of people who lined the streets and packed into the Motera stadium to say “Namaste Trump”.
There were tableaux, folk dancers and musicians rolling out the cultural tapestry that is India, at the airport, on the way and at the spanking new cricket stadium where people waited patiently since early in the morning to hear the two leaders speak.
Modi, who reached Ahmedabad about an hour before Trump did, welcomed Trump and the US first lady at the airport, hugging the president and warmly shaking hands with Melania.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is unlikely to accompany US President Donald Trump and his family members during their visit to the Taj Mahal in Agra on Monday, official sources said.
The US President will arrive in Ahmedabad at around noon on February 24 for a less than 36-hour visit to India. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation including First Lady Melania Trump, the President’s daughter Ivanka Trump, son-in-law Jared Kushner and a galaxy of top US officials.
After attending an event at Ahmedabad, the Trumps will travel to Agra on Monday afternoon to visit the Taj Mahal before arriving at the national capital for the main leg of the visit.
When asked about reports that Modi may accompany Trump to Agra, official sources said there was no such plan. They said the visit to the Taj Mahal in Agra by the US President and his family members will afford them the opportunity to view the historical monument suitably. Therefore, no official engagements or presence of senior dignitaries from the Indian side is envisaged there, the sources said.
Modi will be in Ahmedabad on Monday where a public reception will be accorded to the US President and the First Lady. The Prime Minister will also be present for the Delhi leg of the visit where official engagements are envisaged on February 25, the sources said.
