Honda enters India’s 100cc motorcycle market with launch of Honda Shine 100

The 125cc Shine commuter motorcycle did very well for the company ever since Honda launched the bike back in 2006. Since that time it has become the hottest selling two-wheeler motorcycle in India because it was simple, frugal, comfortable and affordable to the masses.

Honda has made its debut in India’s 100cc motorcycle market with the launch of the Honda Shine 100. This motorcycle is characterized by its simplicity, compactness, and fundamental features. It doesn’t offer as many features as the 125cc version but is a lot more affordable.

Christopher Chaves from Overdrive finds out what Honda’s initial offering in the fiercely competitive 100cc commuter motorcycle space entails.

Also, Overdrive has conducted a comparison between the Toyota Innova Hycross and the Toyota Innova. The Innova Hycross, a hybrid vehicle, has transformed the traditional perception of the Innova MPV by incorporating advanced technology and a front-wheel drive monocoque architecture. The question arises as to how much of the original Innova characteristics are preserved in the Hycross. To answer this query, the Innova Crysta serves as an ideal benchmark for comparison.

Following the arrival of the second-generation Audi Q3 in India, the Audi Q3 Sportback has also made its way into the market. The Q3 Sportback features a more daring rear design, which has been made possible by its 36mm increase in length and 49mm reduction in height compared to the standard Q3. Overdrive finds out the reasons for choosing the Q3 Sportback over the Q3.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) on Wednesday launched its new bike CB300R priced at Rs 2.77 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Bookings for the bike are open from Wednesday for the new CB300R at Honda’s exclusive premium BigWing and BigWing Topline dealerships across India, HMSI said in a statement.

The new CB300R is powered by a 286cc 4-valve liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. It comes equipped with an assist and slipper clutch, which provides an assist function for clutch operations requiring less load compared to a regular clutch mechanism. Not expecting quick recovery in auto sector due to BS-VI pricing: Honda Motorcycle

Country’s second-largest two-wheeler manufacturer Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) on Wednesday said it’s not expecting a quick recovery in the auto sector due to Bharat Stage-VI (BS-VI) pricing.

In an interview to CNBC-TV18’s Alisha Sachdev, Minoru Katu, president and chief executive officer, said that many customers might wait for discounts on BS-IV vehicles.

Katu said, “We are going to stop BS-IV model production by end of this month. Of course, this is the most difficult time as we transition from BS-IV to BS-VI. Many customers may wait for discounts on BS-IV but on the other hand many customers may wait for BS-VI.”

He further added, “Not only the motorcycle industry but automobiles as well the customer sentiment is going down and of course with the BS-VI price increase it is difficult to expect a recovery soon.”

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd has become the first two-wheeler brand to cross the five-lakh mark in sales in the South, between April and June 2018, the company said today.

With this, the company has strengthened its leadership position as the number-one two-wheeler brand in the South covering Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, a press statement said here. The statement quoted senior vice-president – sales and marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Yadvinder Singh Guleria as saying that the southern States were also driving the demand in the two-wheeler industry across the country.

Honda expanded production capacity in Narsapura plant in Karnataka, making the unit the largest two-wheeler plant in the world, he said. The company has more than one-crore customers in the South riding on the back of an overall double-digit growth with more than 17.6 lakh two-wheelers sold in FY 2017-18, the statement said. The company has a market share of 35 percent. While Activa continued to rule as the highest selling automatic scooter in the region, CB Shine leads in the 125cc motorcycle segment, the statement said. In the southern region, Karnataka is the biggest market where, in the first quarter of this year, sales have crossed the 1.1-lakh mark posting a double digit growth of 14 percent, the statement added.
