Union budget 2019 an 8 out of 10, says V Ramakrishnan of TCS

The interim budget is focused on providing relief to large sections of the rural economy and on jobs creation, V. Ramakrishnan, chief financial officer, Tata Consultancy Services said.

Additionally, the tweaking of the direct tax code will lessen the tax burden on the middle classes and spur consumption that should benefit multiple sectors, and drive growth.

The target of extending connectivity to create 1 lakh digital villages over the next five years will further reduce the digital divide, and spur digital entrepreneurship in rural areas.

The announcement of a national programme on ‘Artificial Intelligence’ with a Center as a hub along with Centers of Excellence, will provide a fillip to building national capabilities in this area.

The budget strikes the right balance between progressive initiatives and fiscal prudence, and merits an 8 out of 10.

This is the budget for a New India. The honorable interim FM has meticulously balanced priorities of various sections of our society and delivered on his government’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,’ Ritesh Agarwal, founder & group CEO, OYO Hotels & Homes said.

This budget makes a strong promise to the people to India, which I hope will be backed by an equally strong delivery, especially in the areas of job creation and addressing the skill-talent gap.

The announced tax breaks, together with low average inflation, are likely to spur domestic demand and spending, and inject liquidity in the market.

This is great news for sectors such as hospitality and travel. The announcements on bridging the digital divide and improving efficiency through technology are also welcome.

I am excited about India’s Vision 2030 and believe that it will empower more young entrepreneurs to set off on their entrepreneurial journeys.

The union budget for FY 19-20 is growth oriented and forward looking in nature, Rajnish Kumar, chairman of State Bank of India said.

The announcement of an Assured Income Support Scheme for Small and Marginal farmers is the most welcome step. Additionally, Interest Subvention announced for farmers pursuing Animal Husbandry and Fishery will provide a fillip to this sector.

Raising the full tax rebate up to Rs 5 lakh will surely be welcomed by country’s emerging middle class.

We believe, this will further strengthen the purchasing power of the growing middle class thereby providing a welcome fillip to the economy at large.

Further, exemption of tax on second self-occupied house is likely to give further boost to the housing sector. Hiking the ceiling limit for TDS on bank deposits and small savings will act as a catalyst for this deposit segment by attracting the new depositors.

To sum up, on the whole, it is a growth-oriented budget having something for everyone.

This has been a fabulous budget and I compliment my good friend and finance minister Piyush Goyal for a fantastic job. The finance minister has managed to do something for a large cross section of society – the middle class, the farmers, workers in the unorganised sector, Ajay Singh, chairman and managing director, SpiceJet said.

At the same time, he has ensured that fiscal deficit remains at 3.4 percent. This is a people’s budget that will help the economy and also lays down a vision for the next 10 years. This could well be a game changer budget in this election year.

I feel that the government with this budget has certainly injected a lot of josh without losing its hosh!

Given the election year, it was widely expected that the interim budget 2019-20 will be a ‘Populist Budget’. The budget has given more sweeteners than expected, Manish Sinha, managing director, Dun and Bradstreet said.

Targeted towards the marginalised farmers, rural economy, workers in the unorganised sector, MSMEs, and low income earning population, this budget has addressed the bulk of the population which are most impacted by any turmoil in the economy.

We believe that this will help in alleviating some of the stress in the rural sector, have a positive impact on consumption and kick-start the investment cycle.

Given such an aggressive expenditure plan and deductions given in the direct tax with no new avenues for revenue collection, achieving the fiscal deficit target for 2019-20 seems ambitious. The latest data on fiscal deficit is that we will miss the target in FY19, the second year in a row and is not credit positive.
