Superstar Rajinikanth was on Friday admitted to Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad for severe blood pressure fluctuations and he was “stable”, the hospital said. Stating that he is “stable and resting”, a release from the corporate hospital said the actor will stay here and undergo further investigations on Saturday.

Rajinikanth was shooting for a movie here for the past 10 days and had isolated himself and is being monitored after a few people on the sets tested COVID-19 positive. The 70-year-old actor, however, tested negative.

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and TDP supremo and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wished the actor a speedy recovery. “Mr Rajinikanth has been admitted in the hospital today in the morning…Though he did not have any symptoms of COVID-19, his BP showed severe fluctuations and needed further evaluation for which he has been admitted to the hospital,” Apollo Hospitals said in a release.

He will be investigated and monitored closely in the hospital till his BP settles down before being discharged, it said. Apart from fluctuating blood pressure and exhaustion, he does not have any other symptoms and is “haemodynamically” stable, the statement said.

Medications to control his blood pressure are being carefully “titrated”, the hospital said in another release later. Family and treating doctors have requested all well-wishers to avoid visiting the hospital as he is not being allowed to meet anyone and his daughter is with him.

Meanwhile, Governor Soundararajan spoke to the doctors and enquired about the actor’s health. “Called @HospitalsApollo @ #Hyderabad enquired about the health of Thiru @rajinikanth …I wish him a speedy recovery …” she tweeted.

Naidu said in a tweet he was “deeply concerned about superstar @rajinikanth after hearing the news of him being admitted to a hospital today. Wishing him a speedy recovery and good health!” he added. Actor and Jana Sena founder Pawan Kalyan in a statement hoped that Rajinikanth would come out healthy with the blessings of Mahavatar Babaji whom the superstar considers as Guru.

Rajinikanth had earlier arrived here for the shoot of his latest film ‘Annaatthe’, which has been halted after four of the film crew tested positive for COVID-19. Sun Pictures, the production house, said on Wednesday that the top actor and other crew members have tested negative for the virus.

The shoot for the movie, directed by Siva and featuring Keerthy Suresh, Nayanthara, Khusbu and Prakash Raj among others, resumed here on December 14. The actor is also set to launch his own political party in Tamil Nadu next month, ahead of the 2021 Assembly polls there.

Rajinikanth had earlier announced that he will launch his own outfit and face the polls. He is likely to disclose more about his plans by the end of this month.

Another reason given is to curb the risk or transmission that may happen during the revelry that may ensue during the last week of this year with Christmas as well as New Year.

The Maharashtra government has imposed a curfew between 11 pm to 6 am and as a result of which the street believes that the bigger loss would accrue to the cinema-goers because the late-night shows will not see footfalls.

The board of Zee Entertainment has approved the acquisition of film production and distribution business from Zee Studios, a wholly-owned subsidiary, for a cash consideration of Rs 275 crore.

On valuation, Karan Taurani of Elara Capital, said, “The valuation that they have given is primarily because Zee Studios is becoming much more larger in terms of size, the kind of content they are making, the kind of films they are making from medium project to large project kind of films and that is primary the reason they are paying that Rs 275 crore.”

On outlook of the stock, Taurani said, “I do have a buy rating on this stock, but if you look at the situation specifically in terms of broadcasting industry there have been multiple headwinds in the recent past. First of course is digital consumption happening, 4G has come, you may see 5G in the next 1-2 years, video consumption is going higher because of smart phone penetration and all these things are really leaning to a big growth in this digital advertising domain.”

“I think it is not an event which can really impact valuations or change our multiples or target price as such. It is more like an acquisition of their own subsidiary which they have done just for accounting purpose, we don’t see a large impact primarily because of this.”

No drug consumed at party: Karan Johar in reply to NCB notice

Summary

Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar, in his response to the notice issued by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), has claimed that no drug was consumed during a party at his house last year, an official said on Friday. The antidrugs agency had issued the notice to Johar over a viral video allegedly showing drugs being consumed at a party hosted at his residence, the official said.

Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar, in his response to the notice issued by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), has claimed that no drug was consumed during a party at his house last year, an official said on Friday. The anti-drugs agency had issued the notice to Johar over a viral video allegedly showing drugs being consumed at a party hosted at his residence, the official said.

”Johar was asked to give details of the party. Accordingly, the NCB on Friday received a reply from him to the notice,” he said.

”In the reply, Johar maintained that no drug was consumed at the party,” the official added. The NCB had received a complaint regarding the video of a party, which was attended by top Bollywood stars last year, he said.

The complaint was about movie stars apparently seen in a ’drugged’ state in the video. Shiromani Akali Dal leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa had sent the video to the NCB and his complaint was marked to the agency’s Mumbai zonal unit, he said.

Sirsa had claimed that he had registered a complaint about this video with the Mumbai police in August last year, but no probe was conducted. After the video went viral, Johar had issued a public statement in connection with that video, saying reports of drug consumption at his party were slanderous and malicious.

The central agency has been conducting an anti-drugs probe that began in connection with the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June this year.
