On the Nifty50, HCL Technologies, L&T, Wipro, Tech Mahindra and Hindalco Industries were the top gainers, ONGC, Eicher Motors, Bharti Airtel, Grasim Industries and Coal India led the losses.

Here are the key stocks that moved today:

L&T Technology Services: Shares of L&T Technology Services, the engineering services arm of Larsen and Toubro Group, jumped 19 percent to Rs 3,465.65 after the company reported strong earnings for the June quarter, beating street estimates. The company posted a net profit of Rs 216 crore in Q1FY22, recording a growth of Rs 11.1 percent as compared to Rs 194.5 crore in the March quarter.

KNR Constructions: Shares of KNR Constructions (KNRCL) rose 7.2 percent to Rs 260.40 on the BSE after rating agency CRISIL upgraded its outlook on the firm to ‘positive’ from ‘stable’ and reaffirmed the rating at ‘CRISIL AA-‘. As per CRISIL, the revision in outlook factors in expected improvement in scale of operations in KNRCL’s business risk profile with the sustenance of revenue growth of over 15 percent annually in the medium term while maintaining its healthy financial risk profile.

Sequent Scientific: Shares of Sequent Scientific moved higher by 7.5 percent to Rs 288 amid heavy volumes after the company announced the EUGMP approval for its tablets dosage manufacturing line in Turkey. Sequent Scientific in a press release on Wednesday said the approval was further complemented by the successful renewal of the EUGMP license for eight other manufacturing lines for various dosage forms including beta-lactam, non-beta lactam, terminal sterilisation, mastitis, powder beta-lactam, aerosol, pesticide and solids in Turkey.

Hinduja Global Solutions: Shares of Hinduja Global Solutions were locked in 5 percent upper circuit at Rs 2,968.25 on BSE following a report that Baring Private Equity Asia was set to pick up a controlling stake in its healthcare outsourcing division.

Dilip Buildcon: Shares of Dilip Buildcon slid 4 percent after the highways authority temporarily banned the construction firm from participating in any bids pending the outcome of an investigation into an accident at its project site.

Markets touch all-time high: Over 30 stocks double investor wealth in 2021

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

On a YTD basis, over 30 stocks in the BSE 500 index have doubled investor wealth this year. HFCL has risen the most, up over 200 percent followed by Adani Enterprises, JSW Energy, Deepak Fertiliser, Gujarat Fluorochemicals, and Redington India up over 150 percent each.

Indian indices touched a fresh high in trade on Thursday driven mostly by IT stocks and financials. The indexes rallied as the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic receded, increasing investor confidence in the economy’s recovery, and in-line earnings season.

The Sensex rose as much as 349 points to hit a record high of 53,253.20 while the Nifty added 93 points to its new high of 15,946.65.

“IT results of majors like TCS & Infosys indicate a strong order pipeline emboldening the companies to raise their revenue guidance to 14-17%. This augurs well for the industry and can invite further investments. So, this leg of the market remains strong. However, Nifty is likely to face resistance around 15,900 since FIIs are consistent sellers at higher levels,” stated VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services.

Meanwhile, in 2021 YTD, the Sensex and Nifty rose 11 percent and 14 percent, respectively

On a YTD basis, over 30 stocks in the BSE 500 index have doubled investor wealth this year. Telecom company HFCL has risen the most, up over 200 percent followed by Adani Enterprises, JSW Energy, Deepak Fertiliser, Gujarat Fluorochemicals, and Redington India up over 150 percent each.
Meanwhile, eClerx Services, Aklyl Amines, Tata Elxsi, HEG, Indian Overseas Bank, DCM Shriram, Adani Total Gas, IIFL Finance, and Hindustan Copper added over 130 percent each.

June quarter earnings season has also begun and analysts believe that this will provide some direction to the market hereon. Since restrictions during the second wave were localised and less stringent as compared to last year, most experts expect the impact in the quarter under review to be contained.

Further, as the economy reopens and vaccinations gain momentum, demand recovery could strengthen.

However, markets experts feel that the current valuations of the Indian markets are rich and no longer lucrative on the risk-reward metric but any dip in the markets should be used to buy quality stocks, they advise.

Meanwhile, the risks which could stop this record run include a possible third COVID wave, persistent inflation readings prompting a potential rate increase, and volatility around the US Fed taper talk.

Vijayakumar added that global support to the markets comes from the Fed chief Jerome Powell’s remark that rates will remain near zero until “inflation goes persistently and materially higher”.

This has further emboldened the equity bulls. Even though the broader market party continues, investors should exercise caution while buying into mid-small caps. Correction in the broader market, when it comes, can be sharp, he advises.

KNR Construction shares locked in 5% upper circuit; CRISIL upgrades ratings

KV Prasad Jun 13, 2022, 06:35 AM IST (Published)

Listen to the Article (6 Minutes)

Summary

CRISIL revised its outlook on the long-term bank facilities of KNR Constructions (KNRCL) to ‘positive’ from ‘stable’ and reaffirmed the rating at ‘CRISIL AA-‘.

Shares of KNR Constructions (KNRCL) were frozen in a five percent upper circuit at Rs 255 on the BSE on Thursday after rating agency CRISIL upgraded its outlook on the firm to ‘positive’ from ‘stable’ and reaffirmed the rating at ‘CRISIL AA-‘.

As per CRISIL, the revision in outlook factors in expected improvement in scale of operations in KNRCL’s business risk profile with the sustenance of revenue growth of over 15 percent annually in the medium term while maintaining its healthy financial risk profile.

“The strong execution record along with healthy order book to revenue ratio of 4.5x times is expected to support revenue growth. Operating income reported a healthy growth of 20 percent in fiscal 2021 despite the lockdowns imposed by the government to curb the spread of the pandemic in the first half of the year,” it added.

CRISIL further stated that this was supported by the execution of orders from the irrigation segment which is a lesser labour intensive work. Further, the operating margin remained at healthy levels of 20 percent and is expected to sustain in the future as well.

KNRCL has entered an agreement for the sale of three of its HAM projects.

“Realisation of sale proceeds in next 6-12 months with completion of these HAM assets this fiscal is expected to keep the dependence on borrowing low and help the company sustain its healthy financial profile. Timely conclusion of sale transaction of HAM projects in fiscal 2022 will remain a key monitorable,” CRISIL further said.

Summary

The Sensex ended 134 points higher at 52,904 while the Nifty rose 41 points to settle at 15,854.

Indian indices ended higher on Wednesday, bucking the broad-based global trend, boosted by IT stocks as investors awaited June quarter earnings of IT major Infosys.

The Sensex ended 134 points higher at 52,904 while the Nifty rose 41 points to settle at 15,854. Broader markets were also in line with the benchmarks with the Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap indices up 0.4 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, Asian shares fell after data showing the biggest jump in U.S. inflation in 13 years fuelled investor expectations that the Federal Reserve could exit pandemic-era stimulus earlier than previously thought.

Back home, four of the top five Nifty50 gainers were from the IT space lifting the sectoral index to over 3 percent. These included Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Infosys and HCL Tech.

Infosys rose over 2 percent ahead of its June quarter earnings later today. It is expected to be a strong quarter for the IT major with it leading in terms of revenue growth at least in the large-cap space. A poll of analysts conducted by CNBC-TV-18 has found that the street expects a dollar revenue growth of 4 percent compared to the 2.8 percent growth that TCS reported.

Midcap IT firm Mindtree also rallied 8 percent to Rs 2,692 on the BSE after the IT services company reported better than estimated earnings for the June quarter.

However, Maruti, HUL, Adani Ports, Nestle India and Titan led the losses on Nifty50.

Among other sectors, Nifty Pharma rose 0.3 percent while Nifty Bank recovered from early losses to end flat. Meanwhile, Nifty Auto, Nifty Fin Services and Nifty FMCG witnessed some selling.
