What’s the viral ‘look between X and Y on your keyboard’ trend?
Summary
The viral trend on the social media site ‘X’ asks users to look between two particular alphabets on their keyboards.
Social media is synonymous with trends, and there is never a dull moment on these platforms. Scrolling through ‘X’, formerly Twitter, shows the new trend asking users to look between two letters on their respective keyboards.
While several brands are trying to impress consumers with their take on the viral trend, politicians, too, have jumped onto the bandwagon to woo voters amid the ongoing seven-phase 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Origin
The trend is not new; it started in May 2021 on a platform named 4Chan, where people share images and post comments anonymously. The meme was related to a character from the Japanese anime series ‘K-On’. Its caption read, “Look between T and O on your’e key bored (misspelt on purpose).”
The letters came out as Y, U and I, spelt ‘Yui’, a character from the series, focusing on girls forming a band through their high school’s music club.
Post that, several social media users jumped in and made their versions of the meme, swapping out X and Y for different letters. The viral trend is seen as a funny way to send hidden messages.
Congress leader Manish Tewari on Wednesday shared his take on the viral trend on X.
“Q. BJP is on its way out of Chandigarh. Who is going to make sure of that? A: The answer lies between Y and I on your keyboard,” he wrote.
