US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, on Wednesday (April 24) expressed satisfaction with the progress of investigations into the attempted assassination of a Sikh activist.
Garcetti exclusively with CNBC-TV18, said, “So far the Indian government has met the thresholds that we have put forward and that we have collaborated together with them on, what was a very serious matter.”
He emphasised the seriousness with which both countries view such incidents, adding, “If there are accusations or evidence of something, we expect it to be taken seriously not just by us, but also by India.”
Commending the Indian government for their handling of the matter, Garcetti indicated that the US is satisfied with the progress made so far. “So far, the government of India has done just that and we are satisfied with the progress thus far,” he said.
Additionally, Garcetti highlighted efforts to strengthen bilateral ties, particularly in green energy partnerships. He mentioned initiatives by the US Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to assist India in electrifying its railway system and supporting the purchase of electric buses.
He also expressed the Biden administration’s desire for India to be a key player in the global green supply chain and encouraged the country to become a major manufacturing hub for green technologies.
Garcetti stressed that the US is open to business in green energy and focused on green initiatives in transportation, air conditioning, and manufacturing. He highlighted the importance of the Investment Review Authority (IRA) in incentivising Indian companies to establish Centers of Excellence and encouraged India to become a major manufacturing hub for the Indo-Pacific region.
Furthermore, Garcetti underlined the need for strategic collaboration to prevent any single country from controlling green supply chains. He emphasized the importance of reducing carbon emissions in sectors like coal, steel, and manufacturing. Additionally, he expressed keen interest in India’s potential for green buildings and suggested collaboration in this area.
