Apple likely to launch new iPad Air and Pro models in early May — what we know

Apple’s highly-awaited annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is all set to begin on June 10. The event, a four-day mega show, is expected to bring some exciting announcements from the Cupertino-based tech giant.
Apple is also likely to unveil its new iPad lineup, including the new Air and Pro models, for the market. However, the new iPad Pro and iPad Air models might be launched before the WWDC event, possibly in “early May.”
iPad Air and Pro models’ launch delayed
According to a Bloomberg report, as Apple’s overseas suppliers have ramped up production of the new devices, the company is hoping to release them by May.
Earlier, Apple was planning to launch the iPADs in March or early April; however, the timeline has been pushed back once again as it is still working to “finish the software updates” for the devices.
“The OLED iPad Pro models need complex manufacturing techniques,” the report states, suggesting that it has led to the delay.
What to expect in the new iPad Air and Pro?
Notably, the new iPad Pro is expected to come with an OLED display along with a thinner design, an upgraded M3 chip, a new Magic Keyboard, and an Apple Pencil.
The OLED display will significantly help the models feature variable refresh rates that can reach as low as 10 Hz. It will also be offered in two screen sizes: 11-inch and 13-inch. Apart from that, the upcoming iPad Pro is also expected to come with a redesigned rear camera bump and a rectangular module.
All these upgrades are expected to increase the prices of the lineup. On the other hand, the new iPad Air will be available on a new 12.9-inch screen, the first for the Air tablet series.
While the new iPad is expected to look similar to the current model, retaining the frame and chassis design, it will be bigger and have the same button placements with the Touch ID sensor on the top. The iPad Air is expected to be powered by the M2 chipset and support Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
