Former Indian World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh has earmarked Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Suryakumar Yadav as the most important player for the Men in Blue in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup that will be co-hosted by the United States of America (USA) and West Indies.
“Suryakumar Yadav (is India’s key player). Because the way he plays, he can change the complexion of a game in 15 balls. And he is definitely a surety…for India to win this T20 World Cup, Surya is going to be the key,” Yuvraj said during a media interaction.
Suryakumar has not had the best of seasons so far in the Indian Premier League (IPL). It started with him missing a few games due to injury, and has so far aggregated 140 runs in five matches at an average and strike rate of 28 and 166.67 respectively.

At the same time, Yuvraj played up the important of speeedster Jasprit Bumrah. The pacer had missed the last T20 World Cup due to an injury, but he has been a critical component of the Indian team whenever he has been available.
Bumrah has represented India in 62 T20Is, scalping 74 wickets at an economy of 6.56. He has maintained a bowling strike rate of nearly 18, and has been lethal with the ball for MI too. Bumrah has notched 13 dismissals in eight games in this campaign for MI, keeping a 6.38 economy and bagging a five-wicket haull too.
“I think Jasprit Bumrah is also the key with the bowling and I would like to see a leg-spinner in the squad as well, like Yuzvendra Chahal as he has been bowling really well. But being a batter, I would say Suryakumar Yadav (is the key player),” Yuvraj said.
