Punjab Kings (PBKS) assistant coach Brad Haddin has said that the skipper will not play in their next clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as he has sustained a shoulder injury.
According to Haddin, Dhawan was about to return to the playing XI for the match against defending champions Chennai Super Kings, but failed to do so.
“In any team that you are a part of, it’s disappointing to leave your most senior players for extended periods. I do not have to sit here and tell you about Shikhar’s record in IPL. He’s the most successful opener in this tournament,” Brad Haddin explained.
“We go to Delhi after this game for a couple of days before we go to our next game in Guwahati. Shikhar will be assessed and then hopefully we can have some more positive news on him for the last couple of games. We will assess him when we get to Delhi. Fingers crossed,” he was quoyted as saying.
Punjab Kings will play their next game against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala for their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 fixture on , Thursday (May 9) at 7.30 pm IST.
PBKS lost their previous match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their last game, whereas RCB beat Gujarat Titans (GT) by four wickets at home. Both of them are placed on eight points each and still have an outside chance of qualifying for the playoffs.

The average innings score in T20Is on this ground is 137, however, a fairly higher-scoring encounter could be on the cards on Thursday.
