Summary
Gleeson is a right-arm pacer and has turned up for a host of teams in his professional career, which includes: Northamptonshire, Rangpur Riders, Lancashire, Melbourne Renegades, Manchester Originals, and now the CSK.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have replaced their New Zealand opener Devon Conway with English speedster Richard Gleeson for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign. Gleeson, 36, is expected to join the team for the rest of the league campaign where they step up the ante to challenge for the playoffs spots and also the top-two places in the points table.
“England pacer Richard Gleeson has been added to the Chennai Super Kings squad for the remainder of IPL 2024. He will replace Devon Conway in the squad who has been ruled out of IPL 2024,” CSK said in their official statement.
They added, “The 36-year-old has represented England in six T20Is and has taken nine wickets. In his debut T20I, he picked up a three-wicket haul against India which included the scalps of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant. The right-arm pacer has taken over 100 wickets in T20s, including a five-wicket haul. He has also taken 143 wickets in first-class cricket.”

Gleeson is a right-arm pacer and has turned up for a host of teams in his professional career, which includes: Northamptonshire, Rangpur Riders, Lancashire, Melbourne Renegades, Manchester Originals, and now the CSK.
He has played 34 first-class matches and picked 143 wickets with the help of 10 five-wicket hauls and a bowling average touching 21. He has also turned up in 82 T20s across different teams and secured 91 scalps with a bowling average of 24.31. Gleeson is somewhat of a late bloomer in the cricketing circuit and is renowned for his ability to keep angles tight with the new ball.
He can bring about some movement in the air and off the surface whenever required. CSK might require his services once their Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman leaves the camp midway in the season in May for national team duties. Rahman has had a stellar campaign so far, getting 10 wickets in five matches at an economy of 9.15 and bowling strike rate of 12 in IPL 2024.
