Virat Kohli becomes first IPL player to score 400+ runs in 10 seasons of the tournament

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star Virat Kohli has become the first batter in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to score over 400 runs in a season in 10 different campaigns of a competition.Kohli has surpassed the duo of Suresh Raina and David Warner, who have touched the 400-run mark in nine different seasons in the tournament.

The former India skipper did so for the 10th time during the match between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), where he hit 52 runs off 43 deliveries as the Faf du Plessis-led side secured their second win of IPL 2024.

Kohli has scored over 400 runs in the 2023, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2016, 2015, 2013, and 2011 editions of the tournament before this.

He is the all-time leading run-scorer in the IPL, having hit 7693 of them in 246 matches with the help of 53 half-centuries and eight tons in the tournament. His career average stands at 30.81 and strike rate is 130.81. In 2023, he has scored 430 runs in nine matches, batting at an average of 61.43 to go with a strike rate of 145.76.

“Last two games, we’ve shown great signs of fight. SRH game was 270 plus, we got 260. KKR game as well – 1 run. We’ve been close for a while, but you need to win matches to get confidence as a group. Will sleep easier tonight. You can’t speak confidence into the group, can’t fake confidence into the group. Only thing that gives confidence is performances,” RCB skipper Faf du Plessis said after the victory.

“The competition is so strong, the teams are so strong that you’ll get hurt if you’re not at 100 percent. More guys scoring runs now. First half of the tournament only Virat was scoring runs. Greeny scoring runs now will be massive for him. We know that Chinnaswamy, that’s been a big frustration for us. It’s a difficult ground to bowl at. We’ve tried to find a recipe for it, but it’s tough,” he signed off.
