Sunil Narine becomes only the third KKR batter to score a IPL hundred

Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Sunil Narine continued his good form with the bat in IPL 2024 as he notched his first century in the league. Narine hammered 109 in 56 balls and hit 13 fours and 6 sixes along the way.

Before scoring the hundred Narine had notched 85 against Delhi Capitals and 47 versus Royal Challengers Bengalur.

Narine’s whirlwind century single-handedly powered Kolkata Knight Riders to a mammoth 223/6. Besides Narine, Angkrish Raghuvanshi made 30 off 18 balls for KKR. Towards the end, Rinku Singh remained unbeaten on 9-ball 20. Avesh Khan (2/35) and Kuldeep Sen (2/46) shared four wickets between them for RR. With the century, Narine is now only the third KKR batter to reach three-figure mark in the IPL.

Here is a look at the other KKR batsmen who have scored century in the IPL.

1.  Brendon McCullum

Brendon McCullum was the first KKR batter to hit a century. In fact, McCullum was the first batsman ever to notch a century in the IPL. The former New Zealand captain hit the century in the very first match of the IPL.

McCullum blasted an unbeaten 158 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru) in 2008 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. McCullum’s innings was decorated with 10 fours and 13 sixes.

2. Venkatesh Iyer

Following McCullum’s century in the inaugural match of the IPL, no other KKR batter could reach three-figure mark for the next 15 seasons.  The duck was finally broken when Venkatesh Iyer slammed a century against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium during the 2023 season of the IPL. Iyer scored 104 in 51 balls and hit 6 fours and 9 sixes.

Interestingly, Narine is the first KKR batter to notch a hundred at Eden Gardens, KKR’s home ground in the IPL. McCullum and Iyer hit hundreds at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium and Wankhede Stadium respectively,
