Former Team India coach and commentator Ravi Shastri has backed CSK all-rounder Shivam Dube to come in handy at next month’s T20 World Cup. Dube is part of India’s T20 World Cup squad that will be heading to the Americas for the ICC Men’s 2024 T20 World Cup.
Dube is a key member of defending champions Chennai Super Kings. The 30-year-old has scored 350 runs this season and has a high score of 66 not-out.
“Please watch out for (him), because he is explosive, he’s devastating and he’s a match-winner,” Shastri told the International Cricket Council (ICC) website. “He hits sixes for fun, and when it comes to spin bowling, he can kill you,” the 61-year-old said.
Dube has smashed 26 sixes in this year’s IPL. Overall, he has muscled 99 sixes in 62 games. According to Shastri, Dube has the ability to change the course of the match within a few deliveries. “You want someone to change it [the game] in 20-25 balls, he’s [Dube is] the player to go to,” Shastri was quoted as saying.

“His strike rate, which will be close to 200 most of the time, will help India immensely in going forward, getting those 190s, 200s that are needed in big competitions, especially like the World Cup,” he explained.
Dube’s strike rate this year is 170.73. The 30-year-old made his IPL debut in 2019. He has represented India in one ODI and 21 T20Is. In 21 T20Is Dube has accumulated 276 runs and has a strike rate of 145.26.
The all-rounder, was adjudged the Player of the Series for his fantastic outings in the T20Is against Afghanistan in January 2024. At the time, Dube said that his ability to play big shots against spinners is a “gift given by God to him”. He simultaneously acknowledged that he needs to work harder to overcome his issues related to play pace and bounce. Dube hammered consecutive half-centuries in the opening two games against Afghanistan played at Mohali and Indore.
