Star batters Shubman Gill and Sanju Samson are likely to miss out of the Indian squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup that will be co-hosted by the United States of America (USA) and West Indies in June this year, as per a report by the Indian Express.
Samson has had a terrific season so far leading the Rajasthan Royals (RR). The franchise is at the top of the standings with 16 points. Samson has scored 385 runs in nine games, averaging 77 and striking at 161.09, with the help of four half-centuries, comprising 36 fours and 17 maximums.
Gill, captaining the Gujarat Titans (GT), has notched 320 runs in 10 matches, averaging 35.56 and with a strike rate of 140.97. He has struck a couple of half-centuries.
In T20Is, Samson has aggregated 374 runs from 25 appearances, with a partly average of 18 and strike rate touching 133. Gill has featured in 14 T20Is for India, scoring 335 runs and even has a century to his name.

However, according to the aforementioned publication, the team is not keen on overloading the top-order given that the trio of Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Virat Kohli are certainties for the top-three. Jaiswal edging past Gill will make for a big talking point, but the southpaw has been starring across formats for India since debuting in international cricket last year. The southpaw has featured in 17 T20Is for India, having scored 502 runs at an average of 33.47 and strike rate of 161.94, comprising four half-centuries. In the IPL, Jaiswal has notched 1421 runs in 46 games, thanks to a strike rate touching 150 with two tons to his name.
