Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant is not only certain to make it to the Indian squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, but could also replace his Mumbai Indians (MI) counterpart Hardik Pandya as the vice-captain of the national team, as per a report by Cricbuzz.
Pandya had kicked off his Indian Premier League (IPL) captaincy gig by winning Gujarat Titans (GT) the title in their maiden campaign in 2022. He led them to the runners-up finish the following year, before securing a transfer to MI before IPL 2024. Replacing Rohit Sharma as the captain there, Pandya has arguably been unable to galvanise the squad, suffering six defeats in their nine matches so far.
Pant held the role of the Indian vice-captain in T20Is before his long layoff after his tragic road accident in December 2022.

He has played 66 T20Is for India, scoring 987 runs at an average and strike rate of 22.42 and strike rate touching 127. He has slammed three half-centuries with the help of 86 boundaries and 37 maximums. However, he has made a stunning return to action in the IPL.
Pant has played 11 games in IPL 2024, aggregating 397 runs at an average of 49.63 to go with a strike rate of 159.44, with the help of three half-centuries and 31 boundaries along with 24 maximums.
Pandya, on the other hand, has struggled in most departments. He has scored 197 runs in nine IPL matches this season. He has struck runs at 151.54 at an average of 24.63, striking 16 boundaries and 10 sixes. With the ball, he has picked only four wickets. His economy rate of 11.95 does not paint a pretty picture either, but Pandya is a certainty in the T20 World Cup squad owing to his all-round abilities.
