Summary

Yuvraj Singh was the Player of the Tournament when India won its maiden and only T20 World Cup title in South Africa in 2007.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has named former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as the official ambassador for the T20 World Cup that will be held in the United States of America (USA) and the West Indies in June this year.

Yuvraj joins Caribbean superstar Chris Gayle and Olympic legend Usian Bolt as the faces of this edition of the tournament. Accordingly, the southpaw will be participating in numerous promotional activities before the World Cup, including the build up for the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash in New York on June 9.

“Some of my fondest cricketing memories have come from playing at the T20 World Cup, including hitting six sixes in an over, so it’s very exciting to be part of this edition, which is set to be the biggest one yet,” said the former Indian all-rounder after the official announcement.

“The West Indies is a great place to play cricket with the fans coming to watch creating a vibe that is completely unique to that part of the world, while cricket is also expanding in the USA and I’m excited to be part of that growth through the T20 World Cup. India’s clash against Pakistan in New York is going to be one of the biggest sporting fixtures in the world this year, so it’s a privilege to be a part of and to witness the best players in the world playing in a new stadium,” he added.

Yuvraj represented India in 57 T20Is and scored 1177 runs at an average of 27. He struck at 136.38, bagging eight half centuries with the help of 77 boundaries and 74 maximums. With the ball, he took 28 wickets at an economy rate of 7.07. Yuvraj brightened up the T20 World Cup in 2007 by smashing six sixes in an over against Stuart Broad.
