KL Rahul is in the news after Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) faced a crushing 10-wicket loss to the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday. LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen having an animated discussion with Rahul after the match, which was an incident that drew adverse reaction in social media in the aftermath of the match.

What are KL Rahul’s numbers as a batter for LSG?
In three seasons, Rahul has 1350 runs for LSG in 36 matches at an average of 42.5. His strike rate in the tournament has varied across the seasons, but he has scores runs at 130.42 in LSG colours since 2023. Rahul has hit nine half-centuries and two tons, showing his penchant of scoring big runs regularly. For this team, the Karnatak-born player has scored 114 fours and 50 sixes so far.
How is his captaincy record at LSG?
In 2022, LSG played 14 league games and won nine of them, losing five times. They finished third in the table, but were knocked out by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the first Eliminator of the season. Rajat Patidar’s century proved too good for LSG, as Rahul’s 78-run knock couldnt’s save their day back then.
In 2023, Rahul led the team only in the first nine games before Krunal Pandya took over the captaincy reins because of the former’s injury. He won five out of those matches, and was having a middling season with the bat. This year, LSG sit in the sixth spot after 12 games, recording six wins and losses each. Rahul has notched 460 runs, averaging 38.33 with a strike rate of 136.09, thanks to three half-centuries.
With rumours about him being not retained ahead of the mega auction, LSG will lose not only a consistent batter, but also a skipper who has delivered results for them.
