Bank Holidays in May 2024: Know the dates to avoid hassle

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released a list of bank holidays for May 2024. The private and public sector banks will be closed for up to 14 days, including national holidays, religious holidays, Lok Sabha Election 2024 holidays, Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays, in May.
As per the RBI, the holidays in India fall into three categories:
– Holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act
– Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday
– Banks’ Closing of Accounts

May 1
International Labour’s Day: The banks will remain closed in Belapur, Bengaluru, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh & Telangana), Imphal, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram on account of Labour Day/ Maharashtra Day.
May 7
Banks will remain closed for the Lok Sabha General Elections 2024 in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Goa.
May 8
Banks in West Bengal will remain closed on May 8 on the birthday of Rabindranath Tagore.
May 10
Banks will remain closed in Karnataka on May 10 on the occasion of the Akshaya Tritiya festival.
May 13
The banks will remain closed due to the Lok Sabha General Elections 2024 in Srinagar.
May 16
The banks will remain closed on the occasion of State Day in Sikkim.
May 20
The banks in Maharashtra will remain closed on May 20 because of the Lok Sabha General Elections 2024.
May 23
Banks will be closed on May 13 on the occasion of Buddha Purnima in Tripura, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu, Lucknow, Bengal, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Srinagar.
May 25
The banks will remain closed due to the Nazrul Jayanti/Lok Sabha General Elections 2024 in Tripura and Orissa.
Regular Bank Holidays in May:
Banks will remain closed on May 11 and 25 — second and fourth Saturdays.
Banks will remain closed on all Sundays on May 4, 12, 18, and 26.
