The market on Tuesday opened lower amid weak Asian cues, rising fuel prices concerns and the weak opening of the rupee.
The BSE Sensex opened at 35,106 points, while the NSE Nifty opened at 10,667 points.
The rupee opened weaker, cracking its three-day gain, at 67.41 against the US dollar.
Vedanta stock was currently trading at a 3% loss after the Tamil Nadu government ordered the permanent shutdown of the Sterlite plant on Monday.
Sun Pharma, ICICI Bank, Lupin, Indiabulls Housing Finance were among the other top index losers.
L&T was gaining more than a percent after posting a strong guidance in its quarterly results and was the top index gainer.
Power Gird Corp was gaining more than a percent ahead of its earnings. Tech Mahindra, Hindalco and HCL Tech were among the other top index gainers.
On the earnings front, BPCL, M&M, BHEL, BEL, Coal India, Dish TV, Dilip Buildcon, Power Grid, Eveready, Force Motors, Glenmark, among others will declare their quarterly results.
