Good news for book lovers! Now, you don’t have to spend hours finding books on library shelves. Wondering, how? Well, around 5 lakh books across various government-run libraries will soon be made available online, making them easily accessible to all.
The work of uploading the books to the e-Granthalaya Software has already begun. The first phase of the software is set to launch with five lakh books from various libraries in the country. Around 24,000 books from the Varanasi District Library alone were uploaded recently, Hindi daily Amar Ujala reported. The E-Granthalaya Software is expected to be launched after the conclusion of the Lok-Sabha elections.
What is E-Granthalaya?
E-Granthalaya is an Integrated Library Management Software developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) for the Automation and Networking of Government-run Libraries. This software aims to make books available for all. The current version of the software is 4.0, a Cloud Ready Application to enable web-based data entry with a Centralised Database.
Government of India to launch the E-Granthalaya Software soon:
The government plans to make all 5 lakh books available to the public soon after they are uploaded. Department officials stated that they expect this work to be completed in two months. They also mentioned that the uploaded books will be made accessible to the public soon after all details are uploaded, which is expected to be done by June or July.
All the details of the books, including the title, author, shelf number, rack number, and sequence, are set to be uploaded. A reader has to enter the name of the book and all the details of its shelf and rack number will appear on the screen. This will help them find their desired books easily.
