Skymet forecasts above-normal temperatures in these states over next four days

Weather forecasting agency Skymet predicts higher-than-normal temperatures for states such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Odisha over the next four days.

“One good thing which has happened is the heatwave has been there over different parts of the countries at different times and they have not been very prolonged spells as such. So that means extreme heat has not been there for large parts of the countries simultaneously,” said GP Sharma, President-Meteorology and Climate Change at Skymet in a conversation with CNBC-TV18,

Sharma highlighted that the heat is intensifying on both the western and eastern sides of the country currently.

Temperatures are rising in Gujarat and adjoining parts of Madhya Maharashtra, as well as in West Bengal, parts of Odisha, Bihar, and possibly Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.

He specifically mentioned that places like Saurashtra in Gujarat, Vadodara, Gandhinagar, and Ahmedabad are experiencing high temperatures, with no relief expected for at least the next four days.

There could be some relief for Maharashtra in certain areas like Vidarbha and Marathwada for a day or two.

But other regions such as Madhya Maharashtra, including Pune, Nashik, and Nandurbar, will remain hot.

Coastal areas like Konkan and Goa may experience fluctuations in temperatures but won’t see significant relief.

Mumbai might have temporary relief, but temperatures are expected to rise again shortly.

On April 17, several areas in South Bengal recorded temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, with the meteorological department predicting heatwave conditions persisting until April 21.

In West Bengal, temperatures have exceeded 42 degrees Celsius in some places, making it one of the hottest regions presently.

Sharma emphasised that the northern parts of the country, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Rajasthan, are relatively better off and are not expected to experience extreme temperatures or heatwave conditions.
