Several dozens of voter identity cards were discovered in a garbage dump in Maharastra’s Jalna on Friday (May 10), news agency ANI reported. The cards were spotted and recovered by the municipal cleaners in the area. This comes just days before the Jalna Lok Sabha seat goes to the polls on May 13 — the fourth phase of the general elections 2024.
A video shared by ANI on X shows municipal workers looking for the disposed voter identity cards. The search was carried out in the presence of election authorities and the Jalna district administration. The authorities found a few dozen voter cards dumped in the area.

The voter cards were reportedly handed over to the police and the officers immediately issued directives to register a FIR against the unidentified suspects. The cards were taken into possession by the sub-divisional officer of Jalna.
Currently, the investigation is underway and the police have assured of strict action against anyone involved in the illegal dumping of voter cards ahead of the polls. Under the investigation, the names mentioned on the voter identity cards will be verified by the booth level officer.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra is gearing up for phase four of the general elections. With only a few days left, voters are set to exercise their democratic right to choose the representatives for the Lok Sabha. Jalna, along with Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Raver, Aurangabad, Maval, Pune, Shirur, Ahmednagar, Shirdi, and Beed will go to polls on May 13.
