Sriperumbudur, one of the 39 parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu, is an industrial hub and one of the high-profile seats in the southern state, having over 23 lakh voters.
The constituency comprises the Assembly segments of Maduravoyal, Ambattur and Alandur in Chennai, Sriperumbudur in Kancheepuram district, and Pallavaram and Tambaram in Chengalpattu district. Over the past few decades, candidates belonging to All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIDMK) and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) have won this seat.
Voting for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu will be held across all 39 seats in a single phase on Friday, April 19. The counting of votes will be held on June 4.
During the 2019 polls, DMK’s TR Baalu secured a majestic win from the Sriperumbudur constituency, defeating the rival Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) candidate A Vaithilingam by more than five lakh votes.

In the 2014 elections, he was fielded by DMK from his native Thanjavur but lost to AIADMK’s K Parasuraman. After that, Ballu returned to Sriperumbudur and won again in 2019. If he manages to win in the 2024 elections, then it will be his seventh term in the Lower House of Parliament.
Baalu is contesting the polls against AIADMK’s G Premkumar and VN Venugopal from TMC(M), which is a part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Sriperumbudur Lok Sabha election 2024: Voting date
Polling for the 2024 general elections in Sriperumbudur will be conducted alongside the rest of the 38 seats in Tamil Nadu on April 19 during the first phase. In the 2019 polls, the Sriperumbudur constituency registered a voter turnout of 62.44%.

TR Baalu won from Sriperumbudur Lok Sabha seat in the 2019 elections and received 7,93,281 votes. He defeated the rival PMK candidate A Vaithilingam by over five lakh votes.
