The Sivaganga constituency, a Congress bastion, is one of the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu. The Sivaganga electorate has repeatedly voted for the grand old party, with former finance minister and veteran Congress leader P Chidambaram representing the seat seven times in the lower house of the Indian Parliament. His son Karti Chidambaram made his electoral debut from this seat in 2014 and lost. However, he won his maiden Lok Sabha elections five years later.
