The Bench said that the Aam Aadmi Party chief will not make any comment with regard to his role in the present case. He will not interact with any of the witnesses and/or have access to any official files connected with the case, the court added.

The Supreme Court on Friday, May 10, told Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal that he will not visit the Office of the Chief Minister and the Delhi Secretariat. He will not sign official files unless it is to seek approval from the Lieutenant Governor, the court said.

The Bench said that the Aam Aadmi Party chief will not make any comment with regard to his role in the present case. He will not interact with any of the witnesses and/or have access to any official files connected with the case, the court added.

The apex court granted interim bail to Kejriwal till June 1 in a money laundering case related to alleged excise policy scam. The Delhi CM has to surrender and return to jail on June 2.

“Power to grant interim bail is commonly exercised in a number of cases. Arvind Kejriwal is the Chief Minister of Delhi and a leader of one of the national parties. Serious accusations have been made against him but he has not been convicted. He does not have any criminal antecedents, not a threat to the society,” the court said while granting interim relief to Kejriwal

Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 and is currently lodged in Tihar jail under judicial custody. The case relates to alleged corruption and money laundering in the formulation and execution of the Delhi government’s now-scrapped excise policy for 2021-22.

The top court had issued a notice to the ED on April 15 and sought its response to Kejriwal’s plea against his arrest.

On April 9, the Delhi High Court had upheld Kejriwal’s arrest, saying there was no illegality and the ED was left with “little option” after he skipped repeated summonses and refused to join the investigation.
