Summary

Nakul Nath is eyeing a second consecutive term on a Congress ticket from the Chhindwara seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Chhindwara, one of the 29 parliamentary constituencies in Madhya Pradesh, holds a prominent position in the state’s electoral landscape. A bastion of the Congress, Chhindwara has been loyal to the grand old party, except for the 1997 bypoll, when BJP’s Sunder Lal Patwa secured a win from here. Chhindwara has always voted in favour of the Congress in general elections.

Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and veteran Congress leader Kamal Nath has won from this seat nine times — 1980, 1984, 1989, 1991, 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Kamal Nath was replaced by his son Nakul Nath, who defeated BJP’s Nathan Shah. Interestingly, Chhindwara was the only seat bagged by the Congress in the last elections, while the remaining 28 seats went to the BJP.

Covering the entire Chhindwara and Pandhurna districts, this seat comprises seven Vidhan Sabha segments — Junnardeo, Amarwara, Chourai, Sausar, Chhindwara, Parasiya and Pandhurna.

Polling for the 2024 general elections in Chhindwara will take place on Friday, April 19.

Nakul Nath is eyeing a second consecutive term on a Congress ticket and is pitted against BJP’s Vivek ‘Bunty’ Sahu.
