JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna suspended over sexual abuse allegations

The Janata Dal Secular on Tuesday, April 30, suspended Hassan MP and former prime minister HD Deve Gowda’s grandson, Prajwal Revanna over sexual abuse allegations.
Prajwal (33) is the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate for the Hassan Lok Sabha seat, which went to the polls on April 26.
On April 28, the police had booked Prajwal and his father — JD(S) MLA and former minister HD Revanna — for sexual harassment and criminal intimidation based on a complaint from a woman, who worked in their household.
JD(S) core committee president GT Devegowda told reporters, “We welcome SIT against Prajwal Revanna. We’ve decided to recommend our party’s national president to suspend him from the party till the SIT investigation is completed.”
Some explicit video clips allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna had started making the rounds in Hassan recently. The government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged sex scandal involving the MP.
The core committee meeting was attended by state JD(S) President HD Kumaraswamy and other members. Kumaraswamy said the decision is to suspend Prajwal and the tenure of the suspension is based on the SIT probe report and government action on it.
Also, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has sought a report within three days from the Karnataka police over allegations of sexual abuse involving Revanna. In a letter to Karnataka DGP, the NCW drew attention to this matter following the circulation of several explicit video clips on social media platforms depicting Revanna allegedly engaged in acts of sexual abuse against multiple women. The commission urged prompt and decisive action to apprehend the accused, who is reported to have fled the country.
An FIR has been lodged at the Holenarasipur police station under section 354(A) (Sexual harassment), 354(D) (Stalking) and 506 (Criminal Intimidation) and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code, which the SIT will investigate in detail.
The order said all the cases on this incident registered in various parts of the state should be transferred to the SIT, which will utilise the resources of the CID during the investigation.
