Summary
Voting for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the state will take place in a single phase on May 25, while the counting of votes will be done on June 4.
Haryana, comprising 10 parliamentary constituencies, is considered an important gateway to north India having its political landscape heavily dominated by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Voting for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the state will happen in a single phase on May 25, while the vote counting will be done on June 4.
This time, the state is witnessing a three-way contest between the BJP, Dushyant Chautala’s Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) and the Congress-led INDIA bloc, which also includes Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
During the 2019 polls, the BJP won all 10 seats in Haryana, while the Congress and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), led by Om Prakash Chautala, failed to open their account.
However, the political scenario in the state has witnessed major changes in recent times with the replacement of Manohar Lal Khattar with its state unit president Nayab Singh Saini as Chief Minister and the BJP parting ways with the JJP, which had earlier come to its rescue during the 2019 Assembly elections when the saffron party failed to get a majority in the Vidhan Sabha.
The Congress – being the main Opposition party in Haryana — is leaving no stone unturned to make a comeback in the state, eyeing both the ongoing 2024 general elections as well as the state Assembly polls, which are slated to be conducted later this year.
While the saffron party has fielded its candidates on all the seats in the state, the Congress is contesting nine out of 10 seats, leaving the Kurukshetra seat for AAP.
