Once an ally of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Haryana, the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), led by former Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, is now going solo in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections giving direct contest to the saffron party as well as the Congress-led INDIA bloc, which includes Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Voting for the 2024 general elections in Haryana will be held in a single phase across all the 10 parliamentary constituencies on May 25. The counting of votes will be held on June 4.
A few months ago, the BJP parted ways with the JJP, which earlier came to its rescue after the saffron party failed to get a majority mark in the 2019 state Assembly polls. The JJP was formed a year before that in 2018-post a split in the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).
During the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP won all the 10 seats in Haryana, while the other political parties in the contest — Congress, INLD, JJP and others — failed to open their account.
While the BJP is looking forward to registering yet another clean sweep in Haryana in the 2024 elections, the Congress, on the other hand, is making all possible efforts to make a strong comeback in the state.
Meanwhile, the JJP is also leaving no stone unturned to make its presence felt in the Lok Sabha polls. Besides this, the party is also eyeing another competitive performance in state Assembly polls, which are slated to be held later this year. In 2019, JJP won 10 seats in the state Assembly.
Haryana Lok Sabha elections 2024: Voting dates
Polling for the 2024 general elections in Haryana will be held in the sixth phase on May 25. Haryana will vote in a single phase this time. In 2019, the state saw a total voter turnout of 70.34%.
