Haridwar Lok Sabha elections: Tight contest between BJP, BSP and Congress

Haridwar, one of the five Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttarakhand is expected to witness a close contest between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Indian National Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) even as BJP won elections in 2014 and 2019.
The constituency includes 14 legislative Assembly seats— Dharampur, Doiwala, Rishikesh, Hardwar, BHEL, Ranipur, Jwalapur (SC), Bhagwanpur (SC), Jhabrera (SC), Pirankaliyar, Roorkee, Khanpur, Mangalore, Laksar, and Haridwar Rural.
A tight contest is expected between BSP’s Jamil Ahmad, Trivendra Singh Rawat of BJP and Virendra Rawat from Congress in Haridwar. In 2014 and 2019, BSP received 1,13, 663 votes and 1,73,528 votes, respectively.
The constituency has 20,35,726 general electors out of which 10,70,828 are male while 9,64,739 are female voters.

Lok Sabha Elections 2019
In the 2019 elections, BJP’s Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘nishank’ emerged victorious with 6,65,674 votes, 2 lakh votes more than Congress’ Ambrish Kumar who attained 4,06,945 votes. BSP’s Dr Antriksh Saini was a distant third with 1,73,528 votes. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Haridwar witnessed a voter turnout of 68.92%.
