Election Commission directs X to take down Karnataka BJP’s post targeting Muslims, Rahul Gandhi

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has asked social media platform X to take down an objectionable post from the handle of BJP4Karnataka on Tuesday, May 7.
In a letter to X, Arun Chandak, Nodal Officer said, “I am directed to inform that post of “BJP4Karnataka” is violative of extant legal work.” The official also mentioned that the chief electoral officer, Karnataka through Crime Cyber Crime Division, Bengaluru on Sunday, May 5, directed the social media platform to take down the post targeting the Muslim community. In addition, an FIR has also been registered in the matter.
The Election Commission official ordered in the letter, “‘X’ is directed to take down the post immediately. This is issued with the approval of the competent authority.”

However, the video which was posted on May 4, has not been taken down till 6.30 pm on Tuesday (May 7). The animated video, which targeted the Muslim community, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, received backlash, soon after it was published.
A notice to X asking it to take down the video has also been issued by Karnataka Police.
The order from the ECI came after the Congress filed a complaint with the state chief electoral officer on Sunday, May 5.
