Delhi’s Education Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader, Atishi, made a significant announcement on Friday, April 26, revealing that Sunita Kejriwal, wife of jailed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, is poised to step into the political arena. This decision, Atishi stated, is a demonstration of protest against Arvind Kejriwal’s recent arrest and is aimed at garnering support for AAP candidates.
“Arvind Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, will enter the fray to protest against Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest and seek votes for AAP candidates. It will start from Delhi tomorrow,” Atishi said.
The campaign will kick off tomorrow, with Sunita Kejriwal leading a roadshow in the East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency on April 27th. The momentum will then shift to West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, where another roadshow is scheduled for April 28th.
In a bid to broaden the reach of the campaign, Sunita Kejriwal is also set to visit key states, including Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat.
The decision to bring Sunita Kejriwal to the forefront of AAP’s election strategy comes weeks after Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case on March 21.
The chief minister has not stepped down post his arrest, with the AAP asserting that he would continue to run the government from jail. His arrest has stirred controversy, with the opposition INDIA bloc projecting it as a political vendetta.
