‘No gang is left here’ | Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde after visiting Salman Khan

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday (April 16) visited Salman Khan at his residence, two days after bullets were fired outside the actor’s residence in Bandra. Salman’s father, Salim Khan, was also present.

Talking to the media, Shinde said, “This is Maharashtra, no gang is left here… We will uproot all the gangs and goons…Here hooliganism will not be allowed to continue… The accused arrested are being interrogated… Strict actions will be taken. I have also directed the Police Commissioner to provide security for Salman Khan and his family…”

Two of the accused, Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal, were arrested in Gujarat in connection with the shooting. Mumbai’s Killa Court has granted 10-day custody of the duo to the Mumbai Crime Branch (until April 25th).  In a press conference, the police said gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s nephew Anmol Bishnoi was named and this angle is being probed.

On Sunday, April 14, Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Marathe of Bandra Police Station told CNBC-TV18 that two men had fired six bullets at Galaxy Apartments, where Salman Khan lives.

Khan received death threats in March and November 2023 from gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar. The threats were purportedly linked to Khan’s involvement in the 1998 black buck hunting incident. Following the death threats, the actor’s security was upgraded to the Y-Plus category, and additionally, he acquired a bulletproof car.

Salman Khan faced accusations of hunting down a chinkara at Bawad in Mathania near Jodhpur. During the shooting of filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya’s Hum Saath Saath Hain, Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu, and Neelam, along with Khan, were allegedly spotted hunting two blackbucks.

On October 2, 1998, members of the Bishnoi community filed a complaint against Salman Khan and his co-stars in connection with the killings. In July 2016, the Rajasthan High Court acquitted Salman Khan in the Jodhpur poaching case of 1998.

However, in October 2016, the Rajasthan government filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the high court’s decision to acquit Salman Khan in both the cases.
