Mumbai to face water supply disruption on April 18 and 19; all you need to know

Several parts of Mumbai will experience disruption in water supply on April 18 and 19, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced. While some locations will have their 100% water cut off, others will have it reduced by 25%. The disruption is due to the ongoing work on connecting the Dharavi Navrang Compound water line ward in G North. The BMC has advised the public to utilise water wisely during this period.
The 18-hour operation, which will start at 10 am on April 18 and last until 4 am on April 19, will require closing one of the supply mains, impacting the distribution.
The technical details were elaborated in an official statement, which highlighted the significance of the valves’ diameter measurements of 2400 mm and 450 mm in the connecting procedure. As a result, areas dependent on the impacted supply main will face complete water shortages, while the remainder areas will see a significant drop in water pressure.
The H/East Ward’s Bandra Railway Terminus and Bandra Station Area, as well as parts of the G North Ward, including Dharavi Loop Road, Naik Nagar, and Proem Nagar, will have no water supply. According to a report in The Indian Express, the G North Ward’s areas, including Ganesh Mandir Road, Dharavi Loop Road and Dilip Kadam Road, may also experience a complete shutdown of water supply.
Places like Mahatma Gandhi Road, Sant Kakkaya Road, AKJ Nagar, 60 feet Road, 90 feet Road, and Sion-Mahim Link roads in the G North Ward will have their water supply down by 25%.
Purushottam Malwade, a BMC water engineer, told Free Press Journal that Shahu Nagar, Dharavi residents are experiencing problems with their water supply, which has prompted them to take action. He stated that people could anticipate higher water pressure when the cross-connection project is finished.
“Our goal is to finish the work within 18 hours.”
According to G-North Assistant Engineer Kailash Dhongade (water works department), Dharavi inhabitants will certainly feel better when the work is finished, especially in the summer.
